Sound deadening project

Featured Replies

Did anyone try to dismantle the top center console on the ceiling with lights? And the one around the rear mirror? And did some insulation to it? I get this annoying rattle while accelerating somewhere in that area. I know it is because of that sound generator. But I would like to keep it on. 😁

Will start doing the doors soon. Today I did the boot lid. Added butyl mats in the cavities with a lot of flat surfaces. The trim got some butyl mats and acoustic foam on top.

Wow this is great work so far, guess "some" kg of material has been added to the overall weight lol. I was thinking about doing this with the front doors but mainly for improving the sound quality and eliminate some "clicking" noises I get on the front passenger door, especially during the cold months and when some bass kicks in. I guess I would've done and fix this ASAP 15 years ago but nowadays I became a bit lazy when it comes to tasks like this^^

  • 3 weeks later...

Just ordered some "weather striping"/additional door seals from China.

According to some, they help to greatly reduce wind noise. Found some clips on YT, mostly about Tesla's, as seemingly they are very active with posting clips :)

Can't wait to get them delivered and check if it really works.

So far i've done front door (full dampening), rear door (patrially done butyl mats inside of the door + foam on the trim), and recently did rear wheel arches (from inside). It's already much more quiet than stock. After doing rear wheel arches i'm wondering if it makes sense to do front arches. Tire noise is now not an issue, but theres still quite some wind noise at highway speeds. Seems to be coming from the doors, so i'm hoping those seals will fix it.

I don't reccommend that glued weather strip due to my personal experience, after several weeks comes of. I used that for the space between front and rear door.

Finally I used regular weatherstrip and after 2 years still ok. Very usefull against dirt between doors and wind noise.

Doesn't it look ugly AF or is it hidden once the door is closed?

You see nothing from outside.

OEM looking.

Good morning,

Could you please post a link (even though it may seems obvious)? For me it is a bit confusing, since all i found are sealants that are applied on the door and not on the body.

I am trying to find something similar (not UK) either from amazon or from a local shop (im located in Greece), but i need to know what i am searching for first! 😃

Thanks in advance.

That's the thing, shame it can stay there too, the item is about £22. Shipping by FedEx is £60. I suspect that a dealer would be able to get for about £35-40

£20.59 + VAT, so £24.71 in your hand at Skoda dealers.

Hopefully that will come with the clips too. So I'll pop down and order that so I can fit it when the weather decides to behave itself.

@TheWanderer I doubt that the clips will come with it, but they seem pleasingly cheap at 38p + VAT each,  8E0863727A. 10 reqd allegedly.

Morning, this is the type of weatherstrip. Of course, the price here is more like a scam.

Yeah me too, Ali, Banggood, Temu - of course many if not most products are just cheap crap but others are very well. As an example around 2016 I bought my first Xiaomi smartphone from Banggood for 80€ (Xiaomi Redmi 4) wich was the best smartphone I ever had regarding price-performance (snapdragon CPU, magnesium case..).  At that time the brand Xiaomi was flying under the radar in the western world.

I also bought some RC toy stuff from a brand called WL-Toys - pretty good quality and affordable.

If you are in to DIY electronic projects these platforms are also one of the first choices.

Making good purchases requires some knowledge, experience and research.

I usually get my hints from community driven "deal websites" like mydealz.de, I think the UK clone would be https://www.hotukdeals.com/

Had an interesting result got the bonnet liner arrive in a bag and found two inside so if anyone wants the other one for £25.

It has the clips included.

Collection from GU5 only as it's too big to send via mail or courier.

Still not happy with the doors closing sound so...strenghten the weatherstrips.

I added silicone tubing ( not foam tubing as in the clip ) inside the weatherstrip located on the doors, now everything feels solid as rock!

Ps. Don't use tubing above 5mm in diameter otherwise will be very hard to close the doors!

Hi guys!

It looks like here are some sound deadening pros 🙂 I hope you can help me. I have noticed a strange noise while pushing on my front door card.

Does somebody know how i can get this quiet and fixed?

My O4 is quite new, actually a 2024 modell, first owner with 59km on it, but its already making noises.. I made a video and uploaded it on youtube.. maybe someone can help me..

You can try adding some textile tape.

On mine the ambient light strip inside the trim made some noise.

Anyway Octavia is full of noises, You succeed to fix one and 10 new will appear.

But where do i put it? I looks like everything is put together without any chance to seperate 😞 How did you fix the ambient stripe?

You need to remove the complete door card and check from behind. This part, which you are pushing, is one piece and can't be separated. Could it be that when you push it actually hits the door metal? I would start with removing the door card and check what this going on behind. Check if this part makes the same noise once the door card is separated from the door. Then I would start adding some sound deadening foam at the back of the door card.

I already removed it and in my opion the noise was gone while pushing it not installed to the door. I kind of thought the same, that maybe the part is pushing against the metal or something. Behind this part there should be somewehere the "door opener" cable.

I have located the noise coming above the silver trim itself, while pushing in the area in the video. Do you have this noise in your car, as you already put foam everywhere? :)

So maybe something in the area of the pic.

Thank you for your help.
