Hi guys,

unfortunately my infotainment has not been repaired yet.

Please I need an info. I know I was starting from v1941. Has anybody a picture, in the engineering mode of the Columbus infotainment of an Octavia iv with v1941, where it can be read the current infotainment version? I mean, not only "1941" but all the name/information.

Thanks

Do u 100% have a genuine usb stick? Ssds might not work too

If you used an SSD then that could be the root cause of the problem.

I just answered my own question. The software train appears to be the same as the EU for Rest of the World vehicles such as my Australian delivered Octavia.

Dear @aaaaplay

Is this the software version you had in a Skoda Octavia 2020> ? From the picture I think it is a Columbus infotainment, isn't it?

Thanks

Thank you..!! And how to install..?? I saw that I have previous version (1941) and every 2 minutes system stops, reboots, a total disaster..

just read the thread - it contains all the information you need.  If you aren’t confident doing the process then I wouldn’t proceed.

Does anyone know if we will get the update to 1969 OTA?

I haven't heard of it occurring, it's going to be a very long & slow download due to the size of it, which if 1941 is anything to go by around 9.5Gb.

Tbh I think that you tried to update it and it failed and as a consequence you're system is bricked, there may be a solution in East Yorkshire Retrofits, they seem to be recommended and might be able to help you, so give them a call.

I don't know where you are, but if they can help you out and the distance is long, it still maybe considerably cheaper that a new system from a dealership.

Thank you.

Skoda does not help me: their answer is only to replace the infotainment mainboard: around 2k€!

I am talking with independent technicians and talking with them, I need help for what I wrote: if anybody with Columbus can enter the engineering mode and make pictures/video to show the current software versions. Can anybody help?

Thanks

Like I said I can't as I don't have Columbus. You'll just have to be patient, or go ahead and get a new system installed.

I take it by your previous message that you aren't in the UK.

I know your answer, thank you. But this topic has many users so I hope somebody can read my request and help me... please

Thank you very much Dillinger!

Probably yes. I am not 100% sure since I cannot enter mine anymore and I do not remember the menu.

Do you know if there is another menu to push (for example HMI versions) where a list shows many components of the car and each software?

Last question, is your car produced for European market? I am in Italy and maybe the production change when it is for another market. But from the picture I really think it is similar to mine.

Many many thanks

Yes there is another menu with each software, i can check it later and take photos/video.

And yes, my octavia is produced for European market (Finland).

I am not sure but probably yes.

Thank you very much!!

Questions:

1. Has someone tried attaching a battery charger to the battery while attempting the upgrade to minimise the chance the battery cutting out? I have a Deltran 5A battery minder which I can use. Also eo you attach the negative to the engine block instead of the negative battery terminal for this purpose?

2. does it matter what version of infotainment my car currently has? My car is purchased in New Zealand so I presume it is Australian spec. I have downloaded both the 1941 and 1969 firmware but not sure if they are both “universal” as in applicable to the AUS/NZ spec car.

3. does the USB flash drive needs to be formatted in a certain way? FAT, FAT32 or ExFAT?

As a test with something less drastic  I have tried to update the sat nav map using the download I obtained from the offical site using the VIN. I have put it on a USB drive and entered the engineering mode but both USB1 and USB2 are grayed out and cannot be selected. I suspect I might have formatted the USB drive wrong.

4. I am on version 1900 and I don’t have any problem with restarting etc but voice control for climate control is not available in this version and radio control is patchy. Although I use Apple CarPlay for most things I would dearly like to control the aircon and radio by voice as the touch screen is really a distraction while driving. Does the update make these functions better?

thanks

Yes. We also only get one version of the infotainment system in Australia - the MIB3 MOI3. The low trims like the Octavia Style forgo the license required for navigation as a way of differentiating low spec from high spec.

With the LG manufactured MOI3 units as used in the Octavia IV, Golf 8, Formentor, Leon (MQB Evo) etc... Australia uses the EU firmware i.e. MOI_EU_XXXXXX.

However, older MQB based vehicles like the Superb, Kodiaq, Kamiq etc... using the Preh MOI3 have a seperate firmware/software train with RW or Rest of World i.e. MOI_RW_XXXXXX.

Side note: the exception to this seems to be the Cupra Ateca (of which I also own). It seems LG make the MOI3 unit for this and so it uses the EU firmware/software train.
That causes havoc with tools like MIB Helper as it suggests I try to install 1969 even though 0870 is the most current firmware.

Answering my own questions after installing 1941 (not 1969 at this stage)

I connected the battery charger while updating with no ill effect. It may or may not help but it makes me feel better.

I performed the update without pushing on the ignition switch at all. Just turn on the unit at the screen. It worked fine.

My NZ spec car came with 1900 firmware and it actually says VW in the name

not SK. But the firmware downloaded here worked just fine.

Voice control for climate control finally works. Not very well but at least it is available, unlike before. That was the main motivation for the update as 1900 had been pretty stable otherwise.

I formatted the USB as ExFat on a windows PC just to be sure. The instruction for the map update specifically said it has to be ExFAT, so I thought there is no point trying different format.

I actually tried map update before the 1941 update but it simply would not work no matter what I tried. I will try again now that I am on 1941.

ODIS has (generally) restricted access to dealers only, so unlikely to be available to download. I also suspect that the consequences for any employee & franchise permitting a download to be downloaded  & distributed in the public domain could/would be quite dire for both.

Bite the proverbial bullet and get it done officially and then you have comeback on the dealer if it doesn't work and causes major problems.

Will the dealer even do this for you?
