  2. I'll second the SGS Engineering struts. I replaced my original ones with ones ordered from here in August 2019 and seven years on they are still working perfectly. So they've lasted a year longer than the OEM ones!! From memory I had a small problem with the locking pin (?), emailed them and received different pins in the post a couple of days later which solved the problem. I like a company that gives a no fuss service.
  3. By coincidence I had an ABS fault recently which was caused by a faulty front speed sensor so I ended up replacing both of them. They were completely siezed in so I ended up carefully drilling them out. I drilled down about a centimetre theh heated the end of a screw which was inserted into the remaining length of the sensor and it popped out with no damage to the bearing. I lubricated the new ones well so their removal should be easy. Out of interest I used Febi replacements and they've been working fine. I'll be sure to clean off any corrosion as you suggest. Also with sensor fault the DSG box was awful on changes. Apparently the mechatronic uses a speed sensor input. It was back working beautifully again after the sensors were replaced.
  4. Side (or 'marker') lights aren't intended to 'light up' anything - they are a visual reference for oncoming traffic and pedestrians.
  5. System information is displayed on the screen in 'settings' I think.
  6. Front, back & lights screen wash do not work until I change user from primary to guest then back again. Wipers operate but no washers. Got to be a logic problem as no option to turn washer on/off. This fault reappears every couple of days. Yes I can solve it by changing user, but try explaining that to the person doing my MOT. 2023 Octavia Est, 2.0 Diesel auto

  8. @pab567 my dad is having an issue with his infotainment system. He is unable to successfully connect his phone via Bluetooth. A connection is made and he can check his texts and play music but calls won’t work. I have attached a photo of his system information. If he deletes the Bluetooth phone list or does a factory reset the original list reappears the next time the system starts up. I’m no expert but suspect the software has been corrupted. Would a software update likely resolve this issue? Many thanks for any help you can give him.
  9. BYD gave had their vessels fir a while so that is old news. It currently makes zero difference what ever means they deploy to stop battery fires on a ship carrying electric cars as none of those you just listed will either put a battery fire out or contain it given the way they have to lash the cars down and there are no fire breaks on board.
  10. Apologies for taking this slightly off-topic, but just a quick thanks again to those of you above for helping with this. I took the plunge a couple of days ago with a Kodiaq 2023 (I had been forced into making a change of vehicle, otherwise I would have been quite happy where I was). Early days yet, but so far it does all feel reasonably similar to the older Octavia wrt controls and surrounds. Lots to now get my head around. Avocet, I asked the dealer (at purchase) about the Certificate of Conformity - he said that was the only the second time he'd ever been asked, the previous time being for an export (a legal requirement where the buyer was going)... /innocent face I blamed Briskoda for my impertinence. He told me he's going to e-mail it.... :)
  11. Thanks - shows on screen as side lights - but I don't think they would light much up
  12. Welcome to the forum. Likely to be a failing clutch cylinder - either master or slave. Does the pedal come back up if lifted slightly with a toe?
  13. Today
  14. BYD has now launched and using its own up to 9k car carrying car carrying vessels. I would think they have really stepped up fire fighting systems and that would be in part to identify any fire starting really early on via fire alarms and quick acting. I presune super massive fire blankets and foam or powder although water also seems to be used but that is not what I was taught on fighting chemical and electrical fires. With open single floor and no fire doors the standard methods we would use ie flooding compartments and holds with CO2 or inert gases does not sound that it is an option being employed. My company, Ceva - CMA currently move 5.5M finished cars, up from 4M not long ago, and we are using the schemes I mention above. As an ex Merchant seaman, yes I had a seaman's discharge book and identity card, I worry more so for the sailor's well being. https://www.cevalogistics.com/en/news-and-media/newsroom/press-release/cma-cgm-chery-auto-ceva-sign-mou-to-advance-global-automotive-logistics-collaboration
  15. I believe those are LEDs, I think very unlikely to be as simple as 'changing a bulb'
  16. It’s a possibility I guess, though they’re definitely not painted. It had occurred to me they’ve just faded as it’s lived outside for at least 5 years, though you’d expect that to be a bit variable over the car as a whole if it were that. It’s the two part numbers that’s confusing me. Why have two if they’re all satin black? I might get some 7DL and test it.

  18. Been into Skoda dealership twice and it keeps detaching - so intermittent fails to detect when it's raining. Anyone else had this issue?
  19. Is the bulb for these strip lights something that can be done by Halfords?
  20. But these batteries are a tiny fraction of the capacity of those fitted to EVs so the actual risk is also a tiny fraction, so are you advocating that same rules should also apply to them?
  21. The do do something as we would arrange these power tools with biggish Li batteries terminating in Gernany. Tortuous jortney as getting past Iran, Russia cannot be easy. Kazakhstan, Caspian sea, Azabajan, Georgia, Black Sea and into Romania just would guess but very convoluted and was about 3 times more than sea ie $7k or more a box but the Chinese goods are oft going south of South Africa and raking about 2 weeks longer. Arctic route would be a great time and cost saver. Norway / Sweden preparing to open a Barents sea port to link in to European rail network.
  22. They are taking the Pith!. Totally. A full service is not required at 12 months / 9,400 miles, Fixed Service Regime. The car left the factory on Variable / Flexible servicing. If it was reset to Fixed then an Oil and Filter change is all that is required. Or Interim. Oil & Filter and a look see. Not a 2nd year / Major service. That is Oil & Filter, Pollen filter and look see, and brake fluid changed if you follow their Schedule / Advice. Oil & Inspection Year 1 or Year 2, or both years. Oil & Inspection Service year 3 & extended scope. Haldex Service year 3 / 30,000 miles. Spark Plugs year 4 / 40,000 miles. They will up-sell AC servicing year 2. DSG DQ381 @ 80,000 miles or sooner. Be sure the filter is replaced. HAVE the Air Filter inspected every service, not left till 6 years / 60,000 miles. Lazy barstewards.
  23. Considering they originate from China, is there a direct rail/road connection from here to there?
  24. I have a 2025 Kodiaq SE L diesel. The first service is due at the end of next month by which time I will have done approx 2000 miles. My dealer recommends a Skoda approved full service to maintain the warranty at a cost of £412. Seems very expensive to me. What are the experiences of other new owners?
  25. Onyir started following First Service Cost
  26. Car was MOT'd this morning. Passed with no advisories. 😁
  27. Plus 1 for low oil. That sounds like a "dry clunk" to my ears. Could also be dry CV joints.
  28. SwallownAmazon started following Diff shaft
  29. Thanks. Oil has been changed recently and is currently just seeping out of the fill hole. Both drive shafts are new from wheel to flange.
