  2. After contemplating one of these for months, I've just ordered one from the link above. Just had a "because you purchased a ........" suggestion from eBay, for a "6lb wood splitting maul"....... If I need one of those to fit the cap, that's simply not clever 😅😅
  3. So the Yeti was in to my local dealer today to have the headlight aim checked. Their comments on the invoice (a copy of which will be presented to the MoT garage): "Checked and found no fault with headlamp aim and it is within MOT specification. Carried out guided fault finding and no faults recorded. Checked head lamps and level sensors. All OK. No fault found at time of test." I shall be having a "conversation" with the MoT garage tomorrow...
  4. So the era of Ferrari having a different set of rules to all the other teams is likely to continue
  5. I don't see any BMW taxis in Brighton but there are loads of Octavia's still running around. Oil change every 10k and all other filters at 20k, easy to remember. Check at inspection what service plan the car is on. It tells you in the service menus. Forget any longlife variable servicing sales bull. You might not push the dpf through to 200k but it probably won't cost BMW money...

  7. i would love to see just a big 50gallon drum with all the car keys in it. no reg tags on them, just all the keys together but that gave me an idea.... just separate the keys out into different barrels based on size and fuel type, with descriptions of whats what so all the hatchback diesels are together in a barrel, all the electrics etc. then you open it up as a treasure hunt. pay lets say, 10k for a hatchback diesel key, then you rummage in the barrel blindfolded and pick one. if you can then find that car in the storage facility you keep it you get the type of car you wanted, cheap, but mightnt be the spec or model you expected.
  8. There's a Yellow MK1 for sale in Kent atm for £800. Gentleman has owned it for 14 years and it's currently on 158k. Even has a sunroof!
  9. Hi all, I've been kicking this around for a while, forgot to update you. 🤔. TL;DR; I'm aiming to offset our communities impact on the planet at https://ecologi.com/briskoda To that end, I personally do stuff, but I'm looking at the community, our impact, principally in delivering the community to you. I invite you to read on for yourself too. I had a few options, like a co2 neutral data center etc... That maywell happen when I can find one I think is a good match. In the short term though, I'm planting trees and buying co2 offset on behalf the forum. Which is essentially guesstimating how many tonnes of CO2 we burn for the servers/laptops to provide the forum. I've hooked up with Ecologi , if you signup to offset your personal CO2/trees, the planet gets bonus trees. CO2 The co2 is fairly easy, I'm covering it in excess this year. I'm also lumping in any miles I do for briskoda, which is nada so far this year. The assumption for our servers/network is roughly 430kWh per month in electricity. There is more in the whole chain, but it's almost impossible to calculate. This is about 754 miles driving for an average family car, or 300 ish kgs of CO2. I can only offset in tonnes, and the minimum is two tonnes. So this is easy, we're offsetting 2 tonnes per month. This I believe covers the pico/milliseconds of energy use over the millions of devices brisky data passes over to reach your eyes. Trees Trees, quite a few need to be planted for all the paper we've all used over the years. So inline with the overall goal of 1%, this roughly equates to 100 trees on top of the CO2 offset per month. Your own tree Each month from April 2021 we'll 'gift' a tree to a member. These are trees in the uk, with a what three word reference. You can save that and watch it grow from space I guess... in theory you can even go and give it a hug. Each month from the contributors to this topic/purchasers of tree clumps via our shop, all become eligible for each month. So buy once, your in the pot till I get bored, or the whole planet is a forest, in which case I'll be long gone, and so will you, mother nature 1, human 0. Month Winner April 2021 TBD The Future? There are some personal goals, I have quite a polluting hobby, driving lots of miles to climb a bit of rock. I'll be covering those of personally. Looking forwards for the community, there is much I think I can and we can do. I'm going to sit down one day and try to figure out the total since 2002... bit of fag packet maths required and it will have to be an overestimation too, especially for the miles driven for briskoda fun and business. So here's where your input comes in , thanks for reading this far too. Before I go much further, any other suggestions or schemes, maybe closer to home? I did email a few uk projects but no response, or not deep enough pockets, which brought my sad face on. If you want to add a tree or too, you can. Either under your own account, or add to the briskoda plantation/co2. : https://ecologi.com/briskoda and finally, they do have a uk tree planting scheme... which is what I was waiting for, although a tree is a tree. Thoughts? Each month I' also purchasing a UK tree planting slot. These are given initially to tree planters and other special awards. When exhausted or a spare slot, they will be awarded to a random member of freedom each month. 10. Urgh, let's hope it was a one-off and not a bad batch.
  11. The problem with the original cap is you have to have one hand on the cap to stop it from flipping back on whilst trying to pour water in- I've never ever in my 34 years of driving had such a stupid washer bottle cap as the original in this car hence wanting to fit the better designed one. Michael
  12. You've obviously not taken into account that most cars have either 2 or 3 fobs so the total weight could be anywhere between 1,822kg and 2,733kg!
  13. Standard runway length is 6000ft Average car width is 6.5ft So that means you could park 923 cars in a line side-by-side on a runway (but leaving no space between them). Assume you leave a 1ft gap on each side of each car (so 2ft) that takes it to 705 cars. 12 rows of cars = 8460 cars. Average keyfob weight is 3.8 ounces so in total there's 32,148oz of keyfobs, which is 2009lb. Or 911kg. That's a lot of keyfobs.
  14. The way the throttle pedal is setup you will have full throttle before the pedal even touches the kickdown switch.

  20. Aah, I had missed the India context. Yes, I have experienced the night-time traffic of Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad and a few other places - the use of lights does seem to vary between none at all to everything switched on to maximum! A pair of driving lights may well be a good solution.... something like this:
  21. RGB foot lighting you say... Would that be retrofittable to a MK3 Octavia? edit: Seems so...
  22. 1 point
There is an option in the infotainment where you can change the activation from Early, Normal or Late (or something like that). Keep in mind that auto lights will come on during poor lighting conditions. That doesn’t just mean when it’s dark. Low bright light behind you can also trigger them. Equally, the auto function is there to assist. Not take over from the driver altogether. If you fell the lights should or should not be on at a certain time, over ride them.
  23. Ugly! Where were/are all the broken bits, the missing/broken off cam carrier/bearing bridge pieces? I'm surprised when the first one broke off that it didnt suffer massive damage shortly after - locked camshaft, stripped belt, valve/piston disaster. For that many to break off and still run is almost impossible to comprehend. It looks as if the the cam bearings and at least one of the lobes has suffered lack of lubrication, perhaps very wrong oil. If any bits were missing, nowhere to be found, it suggests the previous owner had sold it knowing full well of the problem. Alternatively, it could be associated with the cambelt change. Mistimed on that major damaged side (the camshaft sensor appears to be on the other camshaft on the still intact side). Valves kissing the piston crowns leading to constant vertical mechanical shocking of the camshaft leading to stress failure of the bridge pieces. Full head off stripdown will reveal.

Most are paid services. carinfo.kiev.ua/cars/vin/skoda used to properly work for free but it's limited now to previously checked cars. Dealers in my experience have been happy to check VINs for me.
  31. You can't really compare standard petrol engines to similar powered diesel versions. The petrol engine will be quieter, smoother but needs to be pushed a fair bit more than the diesel to get anything like the same performance and most of us who've had diesel cars in the past don't tend to drive that way anymore; hence reason why petrol engines feel that bit slower if you're driving the car in the same way as your old diesel version. I try nursing my current car to get better fuel economy but its hard going since the software "update" which took away at least 10-12% average fuel economy and left the engine feeling a bit flatter all the time. I've had the 1.6 TD engine in an early mark 3 Octavia and most of the time it actually felt faster and more powerful than my current 1.5 petrol engine. Even though that is a lowish power output from the 1.6 TD engine it has a lot of torque once you get it over 30mph; lower speeds driving around town it will feel quite flat if you're in too high a gear, which is quite easy with the cheapskate five speed box and gappy gear ratios. Before the Octavia 1.6TD I had a Mondeo 2.2 TD Estate; definitely a wolf in sheep's clothing with incredible torque all the way through but an absolute pig of a clutch made driving it painful in town traffic.
  32. Here is a video I made that shows how to reset it :
  33. Make sure you turn up at the dealership with your mask ... and carrying your guns. They will be super helpful
  34. Bang on.... if all the OP is after is cheap lows then cheap it is. However, if you want lows with a comfortable ride AND “crispy” handling avoid like AIDS. I’m not kidding.
  35. Make sure you play with all the controls as some e.g. the four wheel drive lever, may still be on the left hand side of the centre console and difficult to reach as it was designed as a left hand drive car (although you are probably aware of that anyway).
  36. More progress today... lots of soldering! First up, my secret weapon - 8 core wire: Which as I need to do 2 runs of, and there's wires under the cill on the passenger side as well, I was hoping I could fit 2 runs above the cill but still under the cover. So sacrifice a few inches just to check before I start: ... sits fine and the cover clips back over Time to crack on... Played with wires and positions for the various bits on the amp board. sadly due to space and where the connectors are, I couldn't separate the power and signal cables completely. The amps are screwed down with space below to allow airflow over the carpet. Then 2 long wires to make up. The cores of this wire are usefully numbered (except for the earth, but that's easy to spot!) and so I wasn't having to check continuity with every connection, at least. I decided that rather than solder directly to the Bit10's harness, I would add an extra ISO connector, which will make it much easier to remove the whole board if I ever need to (it'll be remove main fuse, undo main power and earth wires, pull this connector, undo the speaker outs from each amp. Not too bad.). So the wire that brings the signal from the HU has ISO each end to go from the patch lead to the DSP; the other is just using 4 cores for now for the fronts - ISO back into the patch lead at the front and forks to the amp output at the back. And the proper wiring building up on the board. You can't really see here, but there's 2 sets of wires off the JBL sub amp so I can change where the sub lives easily. Then put those 2 into the car (patch lead loose in the footwell) When I fit everything together, I think I'll need to take a few lumps out of the "hinge" at the back of the boot carpet to give the big wires a clear run. And finally today, I did some quick eye measurements, gulped a little, and took a gas hot knife to my boot trim to make slots for sub straps. Came out OK (after the first one, which was a bit messy) - a single smooth melt gives a neat rolled edge to the hole. I also added a sheet to the Dodomat to the inside of these trims on both sides of the boot. Tomorrow is finishing off, put it all together, plug it all in and cross fingers nothing explodes/smokes/burns #gulp#
  37. I set it up for a play. Regretted setting a low speed limit notification just to see what happened. I was bombarded with eMails telling me the car had Exceeded Set Limit. No surprise there. The annoying thing was I could not find how to switch the notification off in the App. So I deleted the car and had to start all over again. But the whole thing is just a little gimmick that might amuse my grandchildren. Can’t believe anyone would pay Skoda to keep it. I find the meagre data for MPG and miles tends to lag behind reality and serves no purpose. I know where my car is. I know if it’s locked. I know where dealers live. I don’t need Skoda milking me dry 24 hours a day.
  38. The batteries in my older HIVE devices must be around 2 years or so and going strong. The thermostat runs for around 2 years with decent batteries, assuming it's not a million miles from the receiver I guess (ie not some weird cheapo ones from a petrol station)
  39. Recently fitted a tow bar to my Superb and it was the same with LV - no admin cost to add the modification and no increase in the premium.
  40. Another update- Skoda guy that wanted to test the car again is now 2wks without contact, haven't tried to get in touch myself as testing for mystery tune issues and/or valve timing causing the revs to jump seems like a waste of time Regardless, the slip was occurring more frequently so I went ahead and got Sachs' 550Nm kit fitted this week. Car is now a completely different beast! The pedal feels about as firm as my GTi6 so I'll get used to that, however she is bitey! Although I managed to get home without stalling I did nearly smack my face into the windscreen trying to shift 3rd -> 2nd. Most importantly, no slip! I tried a few rolling pulls and it feels far more responsive, but now I'll have to be a good lad for a little while so it can settle in properly.

I would advise against it unless it's thoroughly filtered and mixed with mineral diesel, particularly once the weather gets colder. You'll clog the injectors otherwise.
  42. There’s a pretty simple solution for drivers who find sitting behind brake lights annoying - don’t pull up right behind them. It’s far safer for all concerned if you leave a gap between you and the car in front: of you get shunted from behind it’s less likely you’ll end up being pushed into the car in front (with associated hassle of insurance claim on you); if the car in front doesn’t pull away for whatever reason, you have space to pull out round them. And the added bonus that you’re not sat right behind brake lights. I don’t spend much time in cities and I’m glad my brake lights are on whilst I’m sat stationary on a fast A or B road waiting to turn right - makes me more visible to people approaching fast from behind, and makes it more obvious that I’m stationary. If people are worried that they might be driving without realising they have a failed bulb rest assured that the automatic bulb warning on the Kodiaq works well - I had a bulb fail on my bike rack recently and the Kodiaq told me straightaway with a very clear dashboard message. Definitely still worth regular manual checks of bulbs, tyre pressures and fluid levels though.
  43. Yep mid 60's 250cc Maicoletta ( had a brace of them when fairly new ) Have you had a bike before ? my first one 125 Lambretta was in 1961 & commute was 20 miles each way into the middle of London. Get the best helmet you can afford, same goes for protective clothing & boots. Get some practice riding before committing to the commute Ride defensively, but NOT in the gutter - treat all other traffic as if they're out to get you! Whatever you do, enjoy it
  44. Picked this up last week; 2017 TDI, meteor grey with black pack plus & pan roof. Fantastic car!

What's with the founders edition logo? Does that mean Skoda is ditching L&K logo? Because they are the founders.

But you won't get Tesla quality which is very low, dodgy as hell. I reckon if VAG is required to meet it's co2 target by selling more BEVs/PHEVs there will be deals on the Enyaq. Maybe even pre-reg ones. Overall I like that VAG is keeping the ethos of making the Skoda model as the spacious one. If everything works out as expected, VAG might be up there with total units of BEVs sold in within a year or so.

I see this often on EV threads, there's always someone who will say For most of us, EVs will be the future, it will be interesting to see the depreciation of ICE cars over the next few years, I wouldn't touch one with a bargepole. I quite like the idea of taking regular breaks and use the time charging to properly rest. We drive to the French Alps every July (usually) and 3 hours of driving with 20 to 30 minutes of rest is what we would do anyway.
