  1. Welcome to the forum Beast :-) We are a friendly lot here ... Well the 280 owners are... 272 Owners suffer a bit from Exhaust Flap envy but they are ok... Rest of em .... Pah ...

  3. Can highly recommend The Dent Men in Hertfordshire. £125+vat. After being told that it wouldn't be possible for PDR by a local coachworks it took The Dent Men under an hour to sort this out.

  5. Right - hopefully I can assist. Your car as standard gets: eCall Care Connect Remote Services (1 year) and 8 speakers Virtual Cockpit with 10.25" display DAB digital radio Bluetooth® Swing radio with 8.25" touchscreen 2x USB Type C ports (for charging and data transfer) Bluetooth® Wireless SmartLink for Apple Car Play only (wired for Android Auto and mirrorlink) This means that you will be able to make Emergency and Breakdown calls to Skoda Assistance. Skoda Connect should also allow you to integrate into this function to allow you to report breakdowns as necessary. However, you DO NOT have the Infotainment Online (as your car has the basic Swing radio) - which gives you connectivity to services and maps etc. However, your plan B is to go with Skoda Connect Lite. This is a dongle that plugs-into the ODBC2 port on your car and allows you to get telemetary about it that way. I would suggest (if budget is an issue) - that you go and get the VW ODBC dongle (for about £4 on ebay) as opposed to Connect Lite from Skoda which costs £45 !!!
  6. You tell them they made an error so re-test and look down at the DRL / Sidelight unit, start the car and if the DRL's are on because the switch beside the fuse is not at off, or even if off, they are DRL's. If on they are bright. Then turn on the side lights / position lights. The Sidelights come on front and rear, turn to headlights, and they stay on with the headlights. It is the DRL / Sidelight unit less bright when on as Sidelights / Position Lights. There is no Fail on Sidelights / Position lights, they work as they did when the car left the factory. ....................................... While MOT Testers have failed Mk2 vRS for no sidelights, there have been Police Officers stopped drivers because they had Front Fog Lights on. There are even car salespeople that argue that the cars has front fog lights, but then that is because Skoda said in Brochures that they have, and that still shows on 'Autotrader' when you look at the cars Spec. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/305852-pulled-over-for-having-drls-on http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/302841-police-roadside-check-what-a-joke http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/189311-got-stopped-by-the-police-today
  7. When I acquired my 1.4 BBZ a couple of months ago, the flap was stuck on hot air the whole time and it would not pull the skin off a rice pudding regarding acceleration, especially on a hot day. I also run a mk 4 GTi and an S3 8P, both with open cone filters as they are tuned up to stage 2/2+. No issues whatsoever changing from the standard air box set up. In fact for a while, my BBZ ran with an open cone filter Jubilee clipped to the top of the throttle body by the previous owner. It pulled strongly, sounded quite racey with an induction roar but suffered a very bad resonance type vibration that could be heard and felt in the car. However, no issues with not having a thermostatically controlled flap to warm up the intake air quickly. So in a bid to obtain as much air flow as possible, I removed the thermostatic valve from the engine cover and used araldite to glue the flap in the always open position! I looked at the diameter of the throttle body and then the diameter of the air intake by the front side of the air box and it was much smaller. So out came my Dremel, and I cut out the blind end of the engine cover opposite to the air intake and I removed the plastic baffles along that side of the cover channel smoothing everything as much as possible. Now, you may say that some of the air being sucked in is not from the direct cold air feed from the grill. What I can say is that additional air is being sucked in and so now no restriction. The car performs as well as when it ran the cone K & N style filter but with none of the vibration. It also sounds quite sporty from about 3K revs and above. At the end of the day, I can always buy another cover from Ebay for about £15 but as mentioned already, the thermostatic valve might be equally knackered. However, the car performs so much better now then when I first took over ownership.
  8. Gee, I’m glad that’s your problem not mine. I love my standard cruise control. All day, every day, no questions asked.
  9. Car back from Skoda and they say it is due to a faulty window switch. Which will be under warranty. Hope this works. Thanks everyone for your help.

We had for 4 Caddy's at work at one stage, 2x 63 plate and 2x 15 plates, all once over 100k have had at least 1 injector, a 15 plate one had 2 within 3 months and glow plugs on all 4, the newer ones appeared to be more susceptible to the faults. None showed any signs beforehand, fine one day, duff the next
  11. I wouldn't get too hung up on the mystical properties of a VAQ diff. My 245 PP Golf GTI DSG quite happily spun its front wheels uselessly at the lights on fairly dry tarmac. Now if only they did an Octavia petrol 4x4 VRS... that's another thread
  12. Funny enough my new car is back in the garage as it was delivered with a Travel Assist problem. It has been with them since Monday and they are having problems getting it fixed apparently. They delayed when I could collect the car because of the problem but they thought they had fixed it, but a few days later when I was collecting the car and they were showing me the controls the problem came back. I took the car knowing it would be going back to them to be fixed and it is with them now. It is intermittent and it just will say Travel Assist unavailable when you start the car but next time you start it is working fine. Just need to wait and see happens and when I get the car back.

20 hp out of 360 makes very little difference... those 20 hp you would have them only at high revs. The big difference is the 463 Nm of torque, as you have already noticed with the sport mode in third gear and foot down. in any case I suggest you to use petrol with at least 98 octane, if it is not available near you you can always add an additive. you will surely have better performance.
  14. 1 point
@TheBinarySheep Golf R's, GTI's. Audi RS etc etc as vRS are sold as having a Max PS / Nm, and that is on 95 ron. It is not the Max it is the minimum you should expect when never above 3,000 ft above sea level and not in extreme temperatures. You pay for the car and the power it comes with, if with 95 it is lower you were robbed. If with higher octane you get more performance then that is good. So they are not 'down on anything with 95 ron. As it is the figures are what they are sold to you, or you get a bit more in the UK / EU. They can be better as VW says on Super 98, but then nobody in the UK sells 98 anymore. it is 97 min or 99 minimum. https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/need-help/need-help-faqs/fuel

@TheBinarySheep Are there no Tesco filling stations around for Tesco Momentum 99 which is a min 99 ron, or Sainsbury's with 97 ron? As it is you might just manage to keep up with other traffic and be able to reach 70 mph with a tail wind.
  16. Also buy on condition, not age/mileage etc. I could have bought mine from the dealer down the road but the perfect one was a 4 hour trip away - the drive home was great!

Standard fit wheels should fit fine across the range brake calipers allowing (going bigger is fine for this). Speedo calibration is not needed if fitting wheels/tyres from a vrs Octavia. If getting wheels/tyres from another model then you may need to pay attention to it.
  18. I never cease to be amazed by peoples willingless to pay far more than retail price plus delivery for parts from Superskoda. Mine was the black grille which is more expensive than the chrome one shown there (go figure!) and cost me £57.93 from TPS with 8% discount which was given right off the bat without ever being asked for. Retail price £62.97. Delivered to my door from their van the day after the order. Part number for the OP (black grille) is 5L085366B9B9
  19. Don't listen to any of those 280 owners, They're all a gear short!! Welcome, Thats a nice looking big bus you've bought.
  20. how to and what tools
  21. This is a new one on me, looks like there is a second page on that message. Mine doesn’t have this screen, looks like an FL Superb. Is Skoda Connect active? Seen custom messages on that.
  22. Unfortunately for all sellers both of them are the same, and the could not understand why you need this particular one.... the good one has a paper box
  23. I knew it had to be wrong but I was just curious if that syntax was "OK" for some sort of slang I'm unaware of, sounds like it's just plain lack of proper English then? Which means there should be a way to customize this, I wonder if @SashaGrace knows anything about it? I don't remember any relevant menu entry...
  24. English is not my mother language but is "Got all everything" even correct?? Mine just says "don't forget your mobile phone" I think...

  26. Brilliant. Thank you for the comprehensive reply.
  27. Things seem to have been rushed with the new Octavia. So many niggles with software. Things don't work as they should.
  28. Personal opinion but I wouldn't bother - Skoda Connect is junk.
  29. Seems bit odd to be the next reply to an item I posted on this dealer years back. It’s been a case of more of the same, just replaced the Kodiaq mentioned above with them with a new Kodiaq 2.0 tsi SEL. The whole process with Caffyns went well and they gave me a good deal. But Skoda Finance has again mucked up the PCP.

  31. Sunroof is an excellente piece of equipment that really makes driving even more comfortable and luxurius almost as having a cabriolet. But it also requires suitable maintenance. If maintenance is not done, it can become a worts nightmare with very expensive repair costs. And surprisingly large number of my customers had a problem with their sunroof. In this video I have discussed proper sunroof maintenance which should lead to trouble free enjoyment of the sunroof. Even though it is presented on VW Golf 7, tips apply to sunroof maintenance on all cars from VW group, so also Skoda.
  32. Did you press the button for a couple of seconds in the fully open/closed position? This recently worked for me.
  33. Also if the work hasn't been done yet, you could jack the car a few mm of the ground at each corner and try spinning the tyre quickly with your hands - with the car in neutral and brakes off (on flat ground and with the wheels chocked to prevent an accidental runaway of course). If a bearing is bad you should hear an obvious grumble from that corner as you spin the wheel.
  34. UPDATE So far I'm monitoring the voltage on battery first thing in the morning. I have installed a cable from the battery poles that ends with a 2-pin black socket with a black protective cap and a fuse for extra safety. I tucked the socket near the front grill. You can't see it unless you know it is there. So I can use a multimeter to check the voltage without "waking up" anything. Observations so far: The first worst thing that can happen to a battery on a VAG car is driving around in a city for short trips (less than 10 km) using low electrical loads. The BCM will charge the battery only for about a minute. The rest of the time the alternator will deliver 13.1-13.5 V to the battery. Basically will stay in the so called Fuel Economy Mode. This strategy will result in discharging the battery to about 12.0 - 12.2 V in the morning thus lowering the SOC of the battery to less than 50% every day. The second worst thing that can happen to a battery on a VAG car is not using the car for more than 3 days. Depending on type of computer modules and sensors installed on a VAG car (anti-theft, proximity sensors, keyless doors, remote engine start, various convenience sensors, etc.) the battery will end up discharged. By comparison I have attached an article that describes the BCM on General Motors cars. Their strategy is far better. For instance, anything under 80% SOC will trip the alternator to start charging and reach back 80% leaving room for brake regenerative charging. VAG strategy is to lower the fuel consumption at the expense of a low SOC and short battery life. Charging System Description and Operation.pdf
  35. I only had a quick look, but it only seemed to explain how to clean and prepare the surface to stick the new one on. But I've already read that you get the old one off with fishing line or dental floss, and a hair drier or hot air gun. My car was built on the 21st October, and is now parked somewhere in Northern Germany, waiting for a ship to get it to Grimsby. But the lockdown seems to have furloughed all the car transporter drivers, and we're waiting to see how Skoda UK will get them to the dealers. So my delivery date could be mid-November, or early December.

You can have the ignition on without starting the car by keeping your feet off the pedals and pressing the start button, then you can play with all the other settings.
  37. Assuming the service reminder is genuine, I'd take a guess that they mean 2nd service. Isn't your annual mileage a bit low for variable servicing?
  38. Just got home from Darkside after having the Software Rollback. £120 Inc VAT for the File to be Rolled Back to the Pre-Patch Software and they had it done within 90 Minutes. As mentioned the Previous Owner had the 23R7 Recall done in 2016 with VW before I got the Car so I have never known any different but I can confirm on my way Home the Golf felt instantly Smoother, More Torquey at the Bottom end of the Revs too. Early Days for me to say anything about any MPG improvements but the biggest thing for me was piece of mind as I knew how that the so called "Fix" Software put more the strain on Injectors running them at Higher Presser, EGR Failures and DPF Regens and the impact it had in the long run. Another little Job done anyway
  39. If battery is like for like type & Ah is fine no coding required..the car will learn over time that a new battery has been fitted. Changing the serial number 1 digit tells the module that a new battery has been fitted. AH capacity & type MUST match that of the battery installed...
  40. @GUESTY If done there should be a sticker in the spare tyre well with '34F7' on it, dealers stamp and date. Or a dealer can check or Skoda UK Customer services can. Get a Service & Warranty History for the car printed out. But, likely yours never got that as an Early CTHE and they say 'Computer says no'. The 'Flashing White Spanner' issue like with @Sittingbull and others cars are ones that never got '34F7' as Skoda / VW says not required, & they never got '34H5' the Software update started on some 2013-2015 DQ200's. See @Nortonpuch's posts above. VW Group and the DVSA do not give a damn about it.
  41. Simple weather factoids concerning driving. When you listen to the weather people you might well hear the temps in towns and cities. Towns and cities tend to be where the weather is not at it's severest. Like near water, sea, rivers, lochs. Apart from a few places you build, villages, towns and cities & airports where the weather is generally warmer and least prone to fog or freezing fog. Then they give the Air Temp, that is taken about 2 meters above the ground. So you want the 'Grass Frost', or Ground temp. That is what the tyres are driving on, the ground / road. The Grass Temp / Ground Temp might be 5 or 5 degrees C below the Air Temp. & the Road temp even lower when measured by a sensor. Hence you put down salt at around 6*oC when there is moisture there to have turned to brine. Black ice might occur on roads when the air temp is above freezing temperatures given by the weather people or even 'Ambient Temp Sensors' on vehicles. As the sun goes down it may not take long for the road temp to go below the air temp by quite a few degrees. With a frost the road can stay at a low temp when the daylight / sunrise has happened. A shaded part of the road still moist from the day or night before can be where the Black Ice will form even if the air temp near is high. The season is changing now in many areas. Fiddes just above Stonehaven on the A90 will have some of the lowest 'recorded' road temps quite often in winter without having the lowest air temps. Bottom an example from l lunch time December 2019.
  42. My next car is planned to be a Fabia DSG estate too. A sad loss. I don't want/need a large car like a Kamiq. A Fabia Estate meets my requirements perfectly. Needless to say, I don't follow fashion or trends! I prefer practicality.
