  1. Having taken delivery of a new MY21 Superb Sportline 280 hatch, I thought I would provide a little summary of my observations compared to my previous MY19 Sportline. Background: I had a MY19 Sportline 280 hatch for just over a year until it was written off in a collision last September by an SUV driver running a red light and t-boning my vehicle in the side and front (car safety was excellent and I walked away without a scratch). My insurance cover was for a full new vehicle replacement and after allowing for COVID factory shutdowns, semi-conductor shortages and shipping delays, I finally received a replacement MY21 Sportline 280 hatch just over a week ago. Note: The Aus-Spec MY21 Sportlines do not (yet) need to conform to Euro 6 regulations so my new vehicle retains the 280hp engine without a particulate filter. It is also retains the 6 Speed DQ250 DSG transmission. Everything else is consistent with European MY21 vehicles. Pros: DSG appears to be recalibrated and is far more lively and crisp than previous versions with virtually none of the dreaded hesitation and lurch at initial take off. It’s the first time I can say I’m actually enjoying a DSG. Paddle shifters are larger and better shaped (but see cons below) Matrix LED headlights work well and rear LED light animations are cool ‘Sportline’ start-up instrument panel animations add a little theatre More bass/mid/treble settings for the Columbus Canton system than before, although the overall Canton sound is much the same The black lettering on the rear suits a Sportline, as do the rear dark tinted and smoked light lenses KESSY on the rear doors as well now Wireless Apple CarPlay works seamlessly The blindspot warning light in the mirrors has been relocated to a much larger warning light on the car window side of the external mirror housings. This is a great improvement over the MY19, which had a tiny light built into the mirrors surface and was impossible to see in bright sunlight Cons: The quad outlet exhausts with valves has been deleted. Despite retaining the previous 280 engine and running gear, the quad outlets and valves I had on my MY19 vehicle have been replaced by a simple dual exhaust and no valves (single outlet each side). Rather sad about that… Related to the above, it seems that Skoda spent whole minutes working closely with Dyson to specially tune the exhaust note. A little rumble would have been nice (and no, I don't want a resonator-delete and I'm not taken with the couple of aftermarket systems I've seen on here for the Superb) MIB III infotainment system ‘user experience’ is definitely a step backwards. The Skoda dealer warned me everyone hates it and I’m starting to join that club. The menus are clunky and finding some of the settings buried in sub-menus and sub-sub-menus with odd titles takes way more time than it should The Performance Gauges with configurable dials like turbo boost etc that used to appear on the centre screen has gone completely (thanks again MIB III) Driver profile settings are not remembered when you switch off the vehicle. So, if you set 'Individual' with your own settings (for example: DCC and Steering switched to Sport), the vehicle will automatically revert to the standard default settings when you next start it up, and you will then need to flick through the menu to put the vehicle back into 'Individual' mode again. My previous MY19 vehicle stuck with whatever Individual settings I had when the car was restarted. Paddle shifter shape appears to be unique. ie. different shape to previous Superb (MY19 and earlier), and looks like a different shape to VW Golf Mk8 etc. So no paddle extensions available to fit, nor can you easily fit full replacement shifter paddles as the fastening pins that were accessible on previous models have been hidden inside the wheel boss. I have both Carista and Ross-Tech VCDS and it’s clear VW/Skoda have locked out a great many features previously accessible on my MY19 – there are very few VCDS tweaks available on MY21 (at least at this stage) Only one USB-C port and one standard USB port in the entire vehicle and none in the rear. This should have been resolved for the MY21 update I like the new steering wheel overall, but the leather stitching design is more basic and less attractive than on the previous wheel You now only get one Skoda umbrella per vehicle, just in the driver’s door (although the Skoda dealer was kind enough to put another one in the front passenger door for me) The removable flashlight in the boot has been deleted, even the mount Modifications so far: · BMS Throttle Controller (best value single upgrade in my opinion) · 034 Motorsport Air Intake with a Pipercross panel filter · HG-Motorsport hi-flow aluminium Turbo Inlet Pipe · JB1 stage 1 piggy back ECU ...and a full tank of 98RON! Overall, the 2021 Sportline is a fantastic car: well built, quiet, sure footed AWD and genuinely fast. After six months in a little Hyundai rental car, it’s a joy to be back behind the wheel.
  2. Hi all! Having read through the forum I see a lot of people have had similar issues to myself since I collected my new VRS last month. I wanted to give my impressions and opinions after a month. First off I love the car overall, feels more powerful than it says on paper, very well built cabin, comfortable seats and superb gearbox. None of the following issues put me off the car in any way it makes up for the issues easily. However the infotainment system is pants! CarPlay crashing regularly, black screen on CarPlay, logging me out my username and then not letting me log back in! It’s the one thing if I could change on the car I would! Saying that the digital dash is great, easy to use, clear and nice to use with lots of good info on it. My car is actually in at the dealership today to get a software update so fingers crossed I can update this with all the issues being resolved. I love the adaptive cruise and I have to say I quite like the lane assist (must be the only person) however one week after purchase it came up with lots of faults and all of that switched off! However a trip to the dealer confirmed it just happens occasionally (things like certain types of fence etc can cause it to freak out and switch off) which is fine as long as I know it’s not a fault. The engine on this new car is superb, very smooth, very punchy, with sporty driving I get around 44mpg but with eco mode and adaptive cruise I got over 70mpg on a medium run on a normal road, overall combined seems to be an achievable mid 50 driving mixed I seem to have been very lucky and not had the sound actuator fitted which is nice as no fake noises in the cabin. Handling is superb, very little spin and torque steer, sets up nicely on bends and body roll is minimal. Brakes are excellent very strong and fade is minimal you need to push very very hard to notice any issues. The adaptive LED “matrix” headlights are insanely bright and light up a long distance! Yes I’ve been flashed a couple of times but setting the sensitivity to high solved this issue as it dips much sooner. The dynamic rear lights do a wee dance when coming on and the scrolling indicators are very classy and “Audi”. Overall yes there are niggles and issues which can be frustrating however if you’re reading through this forum do not let it put you off, brilliant car. Thanks for reading and hopefully this helps anyone thinking of getting one, or who have similar issues

Just had a message from the dealer. The car has now landed in the country. Shouldn't be long now................
  4. The cooker energy rating does not appear to be "real life" unless you like eating bricks! From the Currys website about the new scale for energy efficiency of appliances:- The energy ratings for cookers are staying just the same. When a cooker’s being tested, the size of the internal space is measured against the amount of energy it uses to heat a brick to 55°C. The less energy used to heat the brick, the better the cooker's energy rating!

I suspect if it's cheap it's a Chinese brand so will be a bit of a hit or a miss. Probably not up to doing proper work and more likely a 'toy' quad. This seems like a fair balanced article on Chinese ATVs in general - https://www.thejunkmanadv.com/is-a-chinese-off-brand-atv-for-you.html
  6. Figured I'd document some of the things going on with my car as it may help other or give others some inspiration or just give someone a giggle! Managed to grab this one from my dad who brought it from new some 11 years ago. Apart from the first 3 years of ownership it's been regularly maintained and serviced by myself anyway so I was familiar with the car before I'd even brought it. Cars now done 54,000 after my 6 months of ownership, but from memory I believe I'd brought it at something like 41,000? (I have a fair drive to work plus I worked a driving job for 3 months to gain some funds) Best part about this car is it only cost me £1000, as my dad decided he'd upgrade himself to a 2015 Roomster 1.2 TSI. It's absolutely poverty spec, smallest engine, no fancy extras, just the smokers pack was added on and a set of mudflaps! So far I've been messing around with getting the electric windows working properly (passenger side is fixed but for some reason the fuse keeps losing power but not blowing? And the drivers window currently only goes down) I've installed some cheap chinese radio that I got for free so I could use it's USB port as the 12v isn't working so I have no way of charging anything in the car, so figured the old dance radio could go and this would take it's place! Need to sort a lot of the body work out as there are some scrapes and a few dents around it, but overall it's a great little motor which I've decided could be turned into some low powered fun! Here's some pics!
  7. This is regarding the plug and play Aliexpress 'MQB-Cam A' reverse camera installed to a family members 2019 vRS DSG. Fortunately mine works great so far! So, the camera and loom was unplugged because of a strange 'clunk' sound when selecting reverse gear. This noise was coming from around the glove box / infotainment unit area and did coincide with fitting the camera. When the camera and loom was unplugged, the noise stopped. First question then, has anybody else experienced this noise with the Aliexpress camera? The camera was working fine when connected, apart from the noise. Now, with the camera disconnected, a park pilot error exists when the infotainment starts up: "the park pilot is currently unavailable". Then when reverse is selected, only the small park pilot image is displayed - the same one when the camera image was displayed. See photo below. When drive is selected, the actual park pilot is displayed, which is clearly an error also. I think initial connection of the camera does some 'coding' as it is plug and play. And now it needs resetting back to how it was prior to initial connection of the camera but, any ideas how? Suggestions would be very much appreciated! Thanks.
  8. No need to paste back to your pc. Just edit the sd card With the sd card on your pc, open the high12.....folder on the sd card containing mib1, mib2 sub folders and metainfo2.txt, cut and paste the 3 items back to the root directory of the sd card, you can then delete the (now empty) high12_p189.... folder. Much faster as all that needs to be done is a directory reshuffle taking a few seconds.
  9. You drag and drop those three items out of 7zip onto your HD then drag and drop them onto a clean blank SD card from the HD. That's faster than dropping them directly from 7zip onto the SD card. It's open archive on the right clip of the mouse on 7zip to see what's in it. Then drag the three items to your HD, then from the HD drag them to a nice clean 32gb, SD card with the spec:).... hopefully that's it.
  10. My method was to find the brochure for the year and figure out exactly which options were available, which the car was specced with, which have the highest value, and which ones I actually wanted. Evidence of the haldex having been looked after also
  11. It's a USB stick with USB-A on one side and USB-C on the other side.
  12. id be bringing it back and asking a lot of questions.. mostly about where is my money...

Thanks for the update. Mine was going in today but had to change it to the 20th as they couldn’t get me a hire car with a towbar and I needed it next week. Will be interesting to see what happens with yours in the meantime. I thought mine was behaving itself and then it decided to no longer have the CarPlay or telephone function and then later the occupant protection system failure alarm came up. Both went away next time the car was started. I’m keeping a log of every event to present to Skoda on the 20th.

  15. As above. It’s not even a difficult adaptation to do yourself.

Only just seen your message haha. I could make my own each year after the winter
  17. The obvious question is - has it had the "EA898 emissions fix"? If so, it's likely that has led to failure of the EGR.

So... update from my side as well... the car arrived at the dealer, so should have a delivery date soon... I hope...
  19. Is that a London brick, an engineering brick, a low mass thermal brick If it's anything like some of the ratings, some manufacturer will have focussed all the heat on the area where the brick is, ignoring the rest of the oven. Great for the tests, useless for actually cooking anything. Anyway, thanks for the replies, it confirms what I thought, so I'll just keep the oven we have, check the thermostat is accurate with a manual one and carry on as I was
  20. Presume you mean because of the difference in colour dots . The replacement springs had no dots, so I'm presuming ones I've replaced were the originals. Not bad then for age of car. If thats your workshop and lift I'm jealous. Getting too old grubbing about on my knees on cold driveways.
  21. Well , job done and both springs fitted. No real probs apart from cleverly supporting car on axle stands on rear beam then realising needed it to move to get clearance. Old springs came out without needing spring compressors, thanks to all who said not to bother buying them. Replacement springs had same number of turns so that's good. Pictures below: The offending article , and a few useful tools to make life easier. Head torch from Tool Station £10. Absolutely love this, charges off usb so no batteries needed, no more faffing about trying to balance phone torch. Aldi impact driver £20 bare, got a few of their cordless tools. Still crack nuts off with breaker, then use this to unwind, great time saver. Lastly socket converter from Tool Station £4. Took drums off again, lubricated all pivot points and adjusted cable in cab, now on 5 clicks. MOT brought foward tomorrow now, so we'll see what Paul our friendly MOT tester has to say about handbrake. Thanks again for everyone's advice and your time in supplying pictures etc. Nearly forgot- the wheel barrow. For years been walking past it while humping tools from shed to driveway. 3 weeks ago had eureka moment, now use the barrow to move them all in one hit. Amount of years I've walked past it? 10+ dear God. And a
  22. car model - yes, coding of first three bytes. Colour - not possible, at least not with VCDS or any other diagnostics tool.
  23. Thanks for the overall positive review! Makes for a change and gives those of us who've placed orders but not yet received our cars, a bit of confidence that we've not made a massive mistake. I'm also in Fife - once I have my vRS (only ordered 2 weeks ago) I'll give you a wave if our paths cross!
  24. I know that @langers2k did document on how to extract files onto an SD Card. @Al123 If you are stuck, let me know and for a small fee, I'll prep up a SDcard with the firmware update on it and send it down (no warranty thought) 😀

Hello! Lurk away, there's loads of useful info on here.
  26. Here is my experience running 17" alloys on my Superb, as well as fitting slightly oversized tyres...
  27. 0478 (SOP4) for Bolaro and Amundsen fixes a shed load of bugs for the MIB system. In most cases, it is easier to remove and reinstall your phone onto your MIB2/2.5 system will fix connect and disconnect issues. Otherwise the connectivity and Carplay will be glitchy. Most dealers are not up to speed with what to do with the MIB system, so glad you have sorted out the system.
  28. So @Al123 are you happy with what to do with your firmware file. I have written a guide on how to apply it if you need assistance.
  29. OK. Visited the garage yesterday - a 1 hour drive away to try and fuind out what is happening. They took logs and a detailed report from myself including photos when the issues arose. I get the feeling that Skoda will do NOTHING unless the customer complaints process is backed up and linked to a formal technical report from a dealer. When there have been a sufficient number of technical fault reports then it will trigger an investigation. I am aghast at the UK forums for T-Roc, Tiguan, Volkswagen, Skoda etc that are awash with all the issues we are reporting here as well and yet VW who are the source of this appalling MIB system seem to be focusing all their engineers on electric cars and not these issues. I have on good authority that customers are not buying new cars once they see the 'new' nav systems. My 'older' Columbus has performed flawlessly and that is 3 years old so we know there was a good, solid solution that VW and their subsidiaries have royally messed up. The issues I have now formally had lodged are; GPS Failures and car position 40 miles from where it actually is No local ability to update via USB SOS warning lights in large amber letters on the maxidot and MIB display Loss of phone connection coupled with loss of internet connection in the car by the ESim - probably a complete module failure? Failure to import addresses from the contacts list on a Samsung Galaxy phone as invalid format Connect App fails to send destination/route data to the MIB3 (the garage said that this was seen top be working on a training course!) with no error messages Inability to locally update via USB C but this 'may' be possible with the MIB3 in 'Engineering Mode'. To get this highlighted it is imperative that anyone with issues sees their dealer to get a formal technical complaint/fault raised by them on Skoda UK. It is a shame that what are otherwise excellent cars are being so badly let down by the MIB3 which at present seems 'not fit for purpose' and fails to meet any sort of acceptable product standards for the price paid and restore confidence in using the system. Interesting the comment about Carplay needing the cars GPS - I wonder if it is the same for Android Auto? I also see that VW are apparently recalling Golf 8s now for a software update but I do not know if this is related to our issues here. I would happily have an older system retrofitted.

so car is at dealer placed order 8th Feb build week was 13 I guess its still good to be in EU
  31. try a search on the yeti forum, i replaced mine years ago, a derbyshire firm came up with a pair -- they do a wide range!!
  32. Yep. Wrapped at the same time I got tints done. Wrapping the chrome window trims was an extra 150.
  33. Try lubricating them first, if you do change them don't underestimate the weight of the hatch.
  34. I added rear electric windows to mine
  35. Yes, my parts guy checked using the VIN. Will update as I go 👍
  36. Thanks for the info bud......... If they are at different frequencies would they even connect at all though ?????????? It does connect and it has done some updates successfully in the past months (probably had it about a year or so now)... but has dropped out on a number of occasions but the laptop power saving has obviously caused that at least some of the time. I will try next time I have both laptops switched on for info from the Win7 one. I will let you know more when I get the connection sorted. Hopefully, sorting the connection will also allow the updates to download properly. Fingers crossed. Cheers.

You can do all that with a cut down Jimny, sit with a good heater on and also nip up and down the road and into town. Worth checking out the likes of a 2nd hand KAP Suzuki Jimny Pickup. http://kapsuzuki4x4.co.uk The new owner of my old one fitted a new bigger rear to it.
  38. There seems to be someone selling them still - https://www.ebay.pl/itm/2x-Federelement-SZ-8010-20-x-032-32-automatisch-Heckklappe-BMW-Skoda-Audi-/171951101939
  39. show maps version info for Mib2H can be used even USB flash
  40. Try rebooting your iPhone.
  41. I like what @silver1011 did 17”. Best compromise of looks and comfort/costs. I believe there are a set of 17” wheels for the Superb, if you manage to find a set for sale. Keeping in line with the original options.
  42. Hi again... After a lot of search and thanks to a great guy from Netherlands VW club and Nefmoto forum (Bonny Gijzen) , maxidot cluster is installed!!!!! It is gorgeous, to say the least, compared to stock green LCD cluster... Bonny not only coded immo data, but also changed welcome screen to Skoda (cluster came from a VW UP) and corrected km... I also installed MFA buttons which worked straight away without even needing coding.. So ....here it is..... Maybe a moderator can change title to Maxidot cluster in 2015 Citigo..it is indeed possible...
  43. Its a FOC option so no money to waste. Remember it also has a washer. I decided to have a rear wiper on my Superb 3 hatch which is the original external design the Octavia 4 is cloned from, albeit somewhat unsuccessfully. It is not used too often. Then I garage my car, most of the time. When stood out overnight, it is useful to clear the back window when..... We have the usual windy mix of saharan dust, farmers field and light rain, leaving an opaque coating/mucky window. Hey, theres a washer, why not use that? When stood or parked in rain with HGVs bombing close past, again instant whiteout at the back. When we have a snow fall or frost overnight..... When the roof is covered with nice large beads of water after rain or washing and the first time you move off it keeping runing off all down the rear window for the first mile. If its torrential downpour on the motorway and again its streaming down off the roof down the back. When birds have pooed on the back window Is it law to be able to see out your back window? You can always remove it, but you can't add it on after its built. But thats just me. I don't spend any time staring at the back of cars from the outside, if an Octavia or Superb hatch passed by me, would I even notice if it had a rear wiper or not? No...only thing I might notice is the colour or how chavvy it looks if its been lowered. Oh, I forgot that it may put people off come selling it (privately) if its not fitted.
  44. Having been out of stock for the last century, I finally got to pick this up today. It has 5 x memory settings, so I can store the torque settings for my car and caravan. Easy to read display, much better than my normal wrench with its difficult to read the markings. Fairly easy to set up once you've read the instructions a couple of times. Can set it to read the actual torque you're applying at any given time, or to just keep the highest torque setting displayed you've applied. Flashes amber whilst applying torque, beeps when you're nearing your set pressure, then a solid beep and green light when that figure is reached. Shame it doesn't come with a few different sized sockets, though there is a cut our in the moulded case for me to keep a few.
  45. Some internals are strengthened in the 272/280 unit. Pistons, exhaust valves and seats. Different cylinder head and cams. Fuel delivery system is uprated, including injectors. I’m sure there’s other bits but that’s probably some of the main ones. In the Golfs, the is38 unit doesn’t seem to suffer from the same end float I’ve seen in the is20 unit, and the same goes for timing chain issues.
  46. The 245 has a smaller IS20 turbo which spools up faster and earlier than the bigger IS38 9shared with the Golf R) of the 272/280. My standard 245 had 400nm at 2,600rpm whereas my standard 272 had 269nm at 4,500rpm and the 272 needed revving to almost 6,000rpm to get the best from it whereas the 245 gave its best performance upto 5,000rpm. The stage 1 245 gave 302bhp and 467nm and my stage 1 272 gave 360bhp and 514nm. When I took the 245 to stage 2 it produced 336bhp and 517nm but was a handful particularly on a wet road. I remember it spinning the front tyres at a barely believeable 77mpg in 3rd gear which is dangerous. The safer, better car is the 272/280 which is a more practical Golf R and a Golf R is better than a Golf GTi. They share the same brakes 340mm vented front discs and 310mm vented rear discs but the 245 was almost 300kg lighter so stopped better (1370kg versus 1,660kg). 4WD traction was very impressive on the 272 whereas the FWD 245 struggled to put its power down. Steering probably nicer and more direct on the 245 and both cornered well with the edge going to the lighter 245. Did 29,000 miles with a manual clutch on the 245 and just over 9,000 miles in the 7 speed DSG 272. Both averaged 40mpg which was impressive the 245 had a maximum range of 530 miles from the 50 litre tank and the 272 a maximum range of 720 miles from the 66 litre tank.
  47. Unlikely to b it, but check the wiring and/or the actual sensor strip located behind the rear diffusor. If correctly fixed, it looks like this, using "x-ray vision". How the actual strip looks, not fixed in position though.
