  1. Late on yesterday evening when it was cool enough for the dog to go for a walk.
  2. an 'extensive' check of my CCTV reveals it came flying off a ride on lawnmower being used by the local council to cut the grass adjacent to my house (or the delorean that passed at the same time)
  3. You have selected Consumption as opposed to AVG Consumption. One flick up on the right selector control on the steering wheel. Easy mistake.
  4. Yes that's exactly what I though too. They had come as a team from an Audi dealership and set up on their own. They made no secret of the cost of buying the garage and that they needed to recoup this. Two other lads that were with the retired owner had been let go too. Shame as they were honest and nothing was too much trouble for them. I will not be returning and if anyone asks for recommendations I will tell them what I found!!

Yes, right now. That will recalculate itself over the next 100km or so according to your driving rather than your mechanic's plus idle time.
  6. This evening..........
  7. Electrickery. A 12v motor and an encoder both wired to the Climatronic or Heater controller. No Canbus.
  8. Hi all Just changed from the standard 18s down to 16s which are 7" wide with an et49. All i can say is wow. Tyre noise fuel economy and the ride. Can't understanding why this car had 18s. The cars suspension is just too stiff for 18s. Tyre noise has literally disappeared. And comfort is nice. I know the 16s look crap for those of us that really are conscious but after the benefits i couldn't care less.
  9. I am currently deliberating over buying my first Skoda (second hand), and am wondering what people's preferences are between the pre-2017 and post 2017 models (with the split front lights). I don't do a huge amount of miles per year, but the journeys I do are generally fairly long (I'm a rock climber based in the south east), and as I am moving to Scotland soon, those trips are likely to get longer. I have therefore been looking mainly at 1.6 diesels, as they seem to be powered well enough, and easier to come by than petrol. I prefer manual (I did try an auto the other day, but still think I would rather have gears), and ideally SE L trim, for they have seats that fold flat. I have noticed 2016 models are often fitted with lower emission engines (i.e. Co2/km), and therefore come with a lower rate of road tax than later models, along with being a bit cheaper with a similar number of miles on the clock. Anyways, I thought it would be a good call to ask a forum of Skoda owners. Are there any glaring reasons for or against a particular version? Is there anything that is a total pain to maintain with them? Thanks.

Should be bright pink through the wall of the expansion tank, and your tank has Mit Silikat written on the side which is the evil tank that can deposit granules into the heater matrix and block it up. Check heat on drivers side vents, might be tricky as it 25C at the moment, 😃 if they feel cooler than the other side, its a new heater matrix to fix it.
  11. I suspect it uses sky hooks in some clever way?
  12. Surely if you feel you need to manually drop a gear you do it. No need to know which gear you're going to get. If you use the paddles to change you get a M and the gear number anyway.
  13. Oopsie. Will do tomorrow, have to be with someone filming haha

Good luck. Hope it is sorted soon.
  15. Hi Ive just bought a Skoda Octavia estate 1.6 litre 2016 two weeks ago after a bit of research-it was a choice between the VW Passat or Octavia-I came down on the Octavia on running costs and not aesthetics. Have had it a few weeks and still getting used to the length (previously had aFabia). Have had an issue with the air circulation which seems to come on in the morning ok but turns of later-down to see Skoda on Monday. Good luck with you choice.
  16. Ah, that's an entirely different kettle of fish. I'd suffer from range paranoia, never mind anxiety, if (or rather when) I drove electric! Most road tests of electric cars seem to spend half their time trying to eke out every last half-mile. At least with petrol and diesel the consumption doesn't differ by maybe 20% when the temperature drops.
  17. I find this very frustrating, not knowing what gear the car is using in D mode so that if you manually drop a gear you don’t know what gear you will get. There should at least be a way to change the display to show the gear.
  18. Good morning, mine, has had some other problem due to a defective update, a few days ago the airbag warning light came on, I parked the car and when I started it after half an hour, it no longer stayed on, at three hours they called me From where I bought it to tell me that they had detected a warning in the instrument panel of my car, I told them that it had already been turned off, to which they suggested that if it turned on again I ask for an appointment to check In some other forum here in Spain, there are rumors of a total update of the vehicle's software, to correct all those defects. In spite of everything it is a good car I am happy with it, regards

Nothing. It's all good. My dealer is just more interested in things I end up enabling

Update to above. Just had a call from Looker and they have accepted the rejection. Thought they might drag it out but pleasantly surprised. I'm going to stay away from the 1.5 engine which is a pity as not much choice.
  21. Didn't need aircon on it wasnt particularly hot the day i drove, had the air fan on a little and didnt need to open the windows- you have just jogged my memory to check the pollen filter though- I suspect like most things on a low mileage car it has probably never been changed- same as the spark plugs which I have just done myself which stopped the slight misfire I was having- Skoda dealership couldnt diagnose- though they did send me a video of my brake discs and tyres- which i know already are perfect as they were all new! Hilarious and guess I wont waste my time or money going to that dealership ever again except for parts maybe. Im getting older, wiser and maybe more cynical but simple stuff like oil and filter, air filter and pollen filter plus spark plugs do not require a great deal of skill to change and having grown up doing this all my life i rather check it or do it myself- lots of dealings with dealerships has never inspired me to think they can do a better job than me- one even stripped the thread in my VW Bora tdi oil sump - this particular car had never been touched by me and had been to the same dealership its entire life in my ownership- ( i had a well paid job so could afford to pay VW service cists haha)a young trainee mechanic worked on it- i paid for his overenthusiastic bolt tightening. In 33 years of driving i have only ever had one sump damaged and it was by a dealership. Sorry for going on rant over went off topic lol.
  22. Hi Nick, Knowing how some of these warranties work, you may be told it's not covered. but it's still worth a claim. Skoda are quite good if you have done all your services with them. I bought mine from a Kia Dealership so they said it wasn't covered. It's not that expensive to sort out anyway but it's the principle. One replacement Carbon Canister (fixed fuel issue) and an Evap Valve (got rid of engine management light) and it's all good.
  23. The software update '34H5' on many DQ200 DSG's from 2013-2015 was started in 2017 and you should be OK with that still being there. (This was after the World Wide Recall on 2013 on the 2009-2012 cars which was just a a Service Campaign in Europe, changing oil from Synthetic to mineral & a software update. 34F7.) The DSG can reset and then settle to your driving style, as will the Maxidot and the fuel consumption once you have got back to your usual driving should then recognise the Average Consumption and calculate again when you fill up what your fuel use was in the short period before going to the pump.
  24. Hi Nick, Fuel used to pour out when I released the built up pressure by opening the petrol cap on hot days, even with tank half full. Might be worth getting it checked. Mine hasn't had a problem since, even when I fill the tank to the brim. All the best.
  25. Is this higher fuel consumption showing on how the cars actual range has dropped from full tanks and not just the Maxidot showing this or the average fuel consumption. ie, are you having to by fuel more often, and how long had you had the car before the service and how many km done since the service. ? Has the Air Filter been changed? The DQ200 DSG did not need a (preventative) oil change. There are 2 oils for this 7 speed twin dry clutch DSG and they do not have a Service Schedule for oil changes. People might well change the oil if they want to, but really need to know what they are doing. Oil for the box & oil for the MCU. (Wet Clutch DSG's are just 1 oil that does both functions.) http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/463987-fuel-filter-change-and-drastic-fuel-consuption http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/425085-crazy-fuel-consumption-16tdi-elegance-13plate http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/477435-mk3-16-tdi-estate-drop-in-fuel-economypower
  26. Are you getting the readings from the display in the car or taking your own readings by filling the tank to the top, zero the trip counter, drive till nearly empty and then refill to the top?. Calculate the consumption that way.
  27. You have Bolero MIB1 => no Croatian, no SmartLink possible
  28. No solution as yet! Going to ask the garage when my car goes in for a service later in the year.
  29. The guy from halfords is in the wrong job if he is telling you your vrs has stop/start
  30. Removing the engine oil in now at the operating temp (hot) is as good a flush as is needed. That is the oil being removed that you know how long has been in there since you had the last service done. (Getting an oil change on a new to you used car means you have no idea what crap is in there.) So hot oil pumped out and then the sump plug changed or just pumped out and no sump plug change, or the hot oil drained via the sump plug is all that needs doing. EDIT. https://www.oilspecifications.org/articles/vw_motor_oil_specifications_explained.php
  31. Both photos appear to show standard batteries. Cars without start/stop need to use standard batteries. Cars with start/stop need to use ones that are EFB or AGM type. Does you car have start/stop?
  32. so on tuesday i did a chopped route in an hour. yseterday i was on mt full 16.5k route, and it felt good on the way up the hill. the above was a new personal best on the full route and the initial hill section was quite happy, and looking forward to today. today, i woke up at 610 with the alarm. then got up after a power nap at 646! stood in the kitchen considering binning it as i was late, but swmbo wasnt going anywhere, spud sr didnt have camp, i had a teams thing at 915, so.... feck it i can be a bit later home. sooooo close to a sub one hour... and forgot to screenshot the initial phase - 30m 16sec... all round winner day

  36. Hi Yetski Almost certainly a piston ring/bore issue, more information as to the remedial work if you search on this forum. Be aware that the burnt oil in the exhaust gas is also likely to have had a damaging effect on the catalyst. I'd suggest an independent VAG specialist as the best compromise between knowledge/skill level and cost. Also suggest you get a written quote first, as the final bill could be more than a 10 year old Yeti is worth. Sorry to be bearer of bad tidings.
  37. I best sell some stuff and buy some!! Thanks for that
  38. Great to drive but terrible user experience. The most user unfriendly car ever from Skoda. In the back of my mind I'm already dreaming about getting another Superb, as my last one was literally superb.
  39. Whip the cover off and take a look at the bulbs, it'll take 30 seconds. It looks like the bulbs have been replaced.
  40. Just because they are working at a dealer doesn't make them any more qualified. Quite often they get the apprentice to do the oil change. Who says an independent is an amateur? In my experience they are usually more honest and open about the work. The point about the updates and dealer support is a very good one though and worth paying the extra when and if you can afford it.
  41. Very nice! Where did you get the badges??
  42. Check DSG service at 40k. Brake fluid change at 3yrs. Check for SMART repairs, as a big car they can get bumped. I've just bought a Superb Sportline... collecting tuesday! Enjoy the hunt.
  43. I have bought one... collecting on Tuesday

To be honest I reckon it’s had a crash and not fixed properly, the mismatched panels are a big hint there. The smaller software glitches might be what other people are experiencing but if it’s been pranged that could explain the engine problems and body damage quite easily - it’s clearly not been fixed properly and the sort of person who wouldn’t care if it had been fixed properly is the sort of person who wouldn’t get the software updates needed to get rid of the glitches. Probably a fleet owner who in my experience treat their cars like crap. There’s no way I’d keep a car that’s had body damage and not sorted properly - mismatched panels on the outside - what’s been bodged underneath where you can’t see it?
  45. Well after owning a Volvo xc70 d5 manual for 13 and a half years it was decided to let this ultra reliable 15 year old comfy arm chair go to pastures new. After test driving Volvo suv's and estates then the Superb it was a very easy decision, so here we go: Another battle ship grey sport line plus 190 tdscr 4x4 dsg estate (combi). Ex Skoda uk car with 2,900 miles. Quite a lot of extras , panoramic roof, digital instrument panel, spare wheel, flappy paddles not sure of what else exactly, didnt buy it for those, rather the way it drove not to mention the space it has. This is our forth Skoda, Felicia, Octavia,Fabia vrs and now this. Hope its as reliable as the old Lovejoy machine. Martin
  46. Driving the South West Coastal 300 today. (Scotland South West). Did 150 mile drive to the south to start the journey. Free charge before setting off, charging now before doing the SWC 300, maybe another charge for free during the day in 3 hours or so, then another tonight while the football is on. Free is even better than much cheapness. Taking advantage while public charging stays free in some areas. EDIT.
  47. To balance out comments I have posted elsewhere about my experience picking up the car and it not working, I thought I would write about my first few days with the car now it's on the road Let's start with the ride and comfort, on the SE it's very good indeed, firm but well damped over bumps, ruts and drains, but I would probably suggest it's worth avoiding going for the bigger wheels on the SEL. Handling and grip - I haven't pushed the car too hard through the corners as yet but as i am getting more accustomed to the steering and handling I have been pleasantly surprised how well planted it seems. bumps and ruts mid corner don't cause issues like the did with my UP GTI and therefore it is very confidence inspiring behind they wheel. DSG Gearbox - in normal mode it runs most of the time at 1000-1500 rpm just ticking over and requires a firm prod to kick down. This is presumably due to WLTP emissions tests. However, in sport mode it does transform the performance so don't let idiots in the motor press put you off getting an auto version it's brilliant. The performance is ok, with 113 hp it was never going to set the world on fire but as with the identically engined UP Gti keep the revs up and the performance will whisk you along at a surprising pace given the tiny engine but fuel economy does suffer as a result. Interior - I love the interior it feels really good quality and miles better than the T-Cross I sat in when taking a look at that as an alternative. The analogue instruments are very clear and once the novelty of a digital dash has worn off I would struggle to justify the extra for it but understand anyone that wants the digital dash but it's hardly a must have option so I didn't go for it. The 8" Bolero screen is brilliant, the apple CarPlay works really well and connect through each time, although I have yet to use the apple maps for navigation on the go. The stereo sound is a little disappointing and has left me turning the bass up to max to improve the sound quality. It is ok but nothing more. The standard sound system in the UP Gti was better. Space is excellent I can't fault the cabin space, however, If there is one criticism from me (and it's only a small one!) it is that I would have preferred a little less rear leg room and a little more boot space - although the boot is a decent enough size and shape, it's just the amount rear legroom is so generous that at 5'8" I doubt anyone will ever really need that much leg room behind me. Comfort, the automatic gearbox keeps the revs low so the engine is virtually silent most of the time and the cabin very hushed, it's a lovely tranquil place to be. But I have yet to take it out on a long motorway trip so can't comment on motor way refinement yet. One of the best parts is the visibility which is excellent, the thin C pillars make manoeuvring very simple and unstressful compared to its VW and SEAT counterparts. Overall I am hugely impressed how good this car is but it's not just me my wife (who loves our Audi Q3 quattro 2 litre diesel) drove it at the weekend and was surprised how good a drive it really is. Would thoroughly recommend a 1.0 petrol Kamiq SE.
  48. Only driven a few miles but even so I I have no hesitation in agreeing with Kierol. The Kamiq SE on 17" Volans is a very fine car indeed.
