Scan it with VCDS, that takes all of 5 minutes and will give you far more information.

Progress is a bit slow as every job a start leads to another job, delaying the one I originally started. I just replaced both petrol tank straps. One was really badly rusted. The other may have cleaned up, but they are not that dear to buy new so I just replaced them

I’ve changed batteries on previous cars without a wrestling (and swearing) match. I’ve also read the useful Key Fob threads in the Octavia page, but my key fob internals have a different layout. Having seen the Low Batt message a few times on the dash in recent weeks I decided to open my 3 fobs and select the best battery for my No.1 key. Expecting all 3 to last another month till departure day. So I did RTFM. Surprisingly, Fob 1 opened up without much difficulty, but no way could I get 2 and 3 to open. Brute force in the wrong place of course was going to break something (expensive). With hindsight I’m not really sure how I managed to pop No1 first time. Long story short - there’s a very special location for a narrow bladed screwdriver (or ex-screwdriver in my case) to slide up a “ramp” inside the fob and pop one end of the cover and allow it to be prised off without damage. The manual simply says “stick a screwdriver in and turn it” without providing the vital clue regarding precise location. No chance. All is revealed, literally, when you get it open.

Hi All, Thanks for your help with some questions I asked over the weekend. Test drove the Enyaq 80 today, really like it so we placed an order. Pretty much ticked every option box. Now the wait , around 3 -4 months but we will see. The spec is: 80x sportline - racing blue 21" wheels All the plus packs (lights, comfort, drive, parking, etc) Sunroof Retractable towbar (read here about issue with bike racks) Came out at 56k Obviously you will never get the money back on all the packs but wanted to order something I will really like. We are part exchanging my wife's Kodiaq as they offered us a great deal on it

My VRS went into dealership for 2 days for alot of updates and I think they may have changed control unit for the infotainment system. I now have wireless android auto running along with a dramatic improvement in response time, some new shortcuts in the 'set' hotkey , my phone auto connects and the climate control remains on sync when selected. Hopefully this sorts all the software issues I was having such as PDC, airbag errors etc. Dealership told me only released last week or two but you'll only get it if you're having ongoing issues. I've attached the latest software for info Top is from August update and bottom is the latest available

On my '09 with almost 290k km there's a couple pretty bad rust areas. On the front fender right at the front, above the headlight. On the lowest part of the front fender where it meets the front door. On the rear fender where it meets the plastic rear bumper. I've been told its caused by the bumper moving a bit and rubbing on the metal fender. Theres also rust spots above the windshield from rockchips. Although, those are caused by the previous owners not fixing them with touch-up paint before them rusting. Hope this helps.

TPM is called something different in some MOBOs, many people have bought the modules only to find they already have it. I know on my Gigabyte its a case of altering the UEFI CSM & legacy states under "win 8 features" in the BIOS.. However my i7-4790 Haswell CPU isn't supported/compatible as of yet...Not worried but Win10 support ends in 2025...so will have to build a new computer by then!!

Interesting choice. I like the look of these but I can't help but wonder what the point of vauxhall is now. At least when they were GM there wasnt a rebadged version elsewhere. Now essentially you've got the Citroen/DS edition, the Peugeot Edition, The Opel Edition and the Vauxhall edition. On top of that it can't be long before the rest of the group copy too. Shame to see all these brands essentially becoming one.

If you have GSF or ECP within your intended travel area, then at least ECP sell Pagid or maybe even Textar pads and discs, I've always found Pagid to be okay despite how, it has been said, ECP manipulate that brand's offerings by selling only a "shortened" range. I'd always aim to check the Pagid/Textar official website for their kit references and make sure that ECP is handing over their(Pagid/Txtar) listed kits for your car - otherwise aim to get another brand you recognise, sometimes it is very easy to get the exact correct parts aftermarket, sometimes it can be slightly trickier. CCP otherwise known as Coverdale Car Parts, are worth contacting for genuine VW Group parts, I've used them many times, but always make sure that you know what your local VW Group dealership is asking for service parts - just in case you end up paying more from shopping elsewhere.

That time again. Lots of mornings with condensation inside or freezing inside even in dry cars time is near. Time for carpets out and rubber mats in. Door seal holes cleared at the bottom of Skoda Models. Treat the Rubbers / Seals, hinges, locks. Winter Screen Wash. Coolant / Anti freeze strength checked. Oil checked, Check and fit Clean / dry Pollen Filter. Clean Air Filter. Fuel Filter maybe. Battery Condition. Spark Plugs. Basically a pre winter Service / Check. Wheels / Tyres, pressures, condition, do the wheels actually come off if there are rear drums on? Get in the De-icer or Pre-ice if you use that. Extra stuff not needed out of car and winter essentials in. Demist Pads, cloths etc (remove when wet and dry) Torch, shovel if you need. Damp Traps bought & maybe one in the car & one in the boot , while supplies are good and price low.

I would recommend that you keep the Radar detector at the front of the car (the Shiny nose of the Octavia on your FL car or under the grill on the front valance on non-FL models) clean. Dirty on the face of the radar detector may lead to false positives. It's doing its job. Keep it on. Especially in London.

@aerofurb I am a mechanical engineer so share your interest in this sort of thing. You are right that there is very little information available in how or what is happening. I guess you have to trust that it's not applying any force into the gearbox when in D/B. In my experience of driving it of nearly a year I am yet to see or feel any reason to believe otherwise. There is no tug or dip like you get when doing a traditional hill start on a manual handbrake. What you do get is the release when the EHB goes on and releases the main brakes. Can we know why you feel you need to not use the handbrake when parking up if you use it daily?

Discussion it with your insurers will let you know their thinking on it. The windscreen gets fixed you pay the excess and you can tell the Police how much your loss was. Do you have a Crime report number, officers number etc. Likely you are stuck with the £75 or whatever.

I just wondered if there is any definitive evidence out there that the e drive does actually ‘switch off’ when in D/B and stationary with the EPB on. To me it’s a shame there seems a lack of info about as to how the iV works - there’s more info out there on the VW GTE’s than from Skoda and that’s still not a great deal. From where do others glean the stated info? I haven’t managed to find an official workshop manual yet - I had them for both my Yeti and Citigo. As for the ‘is the iV right for me’ comment - it’s perfect. Monday to Friday I drive 4.5 miles to work and 4.5 miles home - pure EV mode. Most weekends I have a 105 mile drive and then home again - hybrid mode. As an aircraft engineer I am very interested in the technical aspects of how the car works and have a shed load of mechanical sympathy. Hence my questions over what is a actually happening in the drive train when the EPB is applied and why I don’t feel the need to apply the EPB (by automation or by physically moving a switch with my digit) when the car is parked in the garage overnight.

Bit of an update: V5 now arrived, car reg 30 sep. Going to dealers tomorrow to collect. ST sold back to Ford dealer yesterday for £16.2 as they agreed 3 weeks ago. Ford having similar issues with incomplete builds. Salesman has new Audi which was delivered last week but only one key - to save on microchips. 2nd key to arrive later. Will let you know if the Superb estate iV comes complete!

Finally after months of sitting on the shelf, I added the Power Magic Pro to my existing Blackvue dashcam setup. Install was straight forward but I wish they included instructions to "start the car" cause I thought the unit was faulty when I turned the ignition on to ACC only and nothing happened!!! I initially removed it and was about to return it, but after some further research/investigation - I saw the car needed to b started for the unit to spring into action for the first time. The glovebox conveniently had a pre-drilled small hole, from factory, against the felt backing, for me to route the wires through. Allows for the Power Magic Pro to b out of sight, yet easily accessible

Upgraded the pedals, and fitted some nice OEM Prestige mats. I know you only see the pedals for a second or so as you get into the car, but for that second the view is now much improved. The mats are way nicer than the 3rd party crap that came with the car. Luxurious! The delivery arrived from Kopacek in a TV box. The kids were very disappointed when I opened it up, but I was delighted!

Aside from chucking in a quick handbrake in traffic I see there being no reason not to use autohold on this platform. You come to a stop with the brake, let your foot off the pedal and the car stays put. Traction system knows you are stationary so no need for it to put force into the gearbox, ie no creep. Actually that last bit should be the same if you have any vehicle with stop start and dsg.

If your scuttle cover is faded give it a spray with silicone lubricant. It brings back the colour.

@David-SCALA-STY-TS81 I think you will find that the (dual) relay involved is soldered to a circuit board, not a pluggable/unpluggable item, but do let us know if you find a removable one please. If you listen carefully as you switch wipers on, off, or change between normal and high speed you may hear a single click each time, but the continuous wiping modes don't involve the relays doing any switching except at those times. The mechanism driving the wiper arms takes care of the apparent starting and stopping at the ends of each sweep, not the relays.

But generally the cost of living in Germany is 24% less than in the UK. Britain fought a war to stay British and not be ruled by Germany, and then more recently had a referendum so that is the price you pay, more!

I did look at some non U.K. forums but apart from getting that there was a problem I couldn’t understand them. Regarding map updates I don’t think it will solve the problem as is not the maps but the sat nav software that’s at fault, it needs uninstalling and replacing with something that’s fit for purpose. Possibly this is the reason VAG haven’t issued a over there air update as it’s something that might have to be done at the dealers, and they don’t want to pay to have that done.

Cupra are lesser build quality to the octavia mk3? Was considering chopping my manual octy in for a cupra dsg

i'd be more concerned that VAG / skoda might start sourcing inferior chips from china. they'll be desperate to get cars moving to free up space and bring in the £££, so maybe likely to buy from anyone who can supply
