  1. Their efficiency at any speed is more than double that of an internal combustion engined vehicle. The improvements in aerodynamic efficiency have pretty much all been made in recent decades, any further improvements will be de minimis reducing frontal area will always have a major effect, we need to get back to sensible sized passenger vehicles, ones that can carry a family of 5 and still park in a standard single garage and allow the passengers to exit, ones where you can see over the roof and wash it with a sponge not requiring a stepladder. A large frontal area does not equate to a poor drag coefficient, you could build a half scale vehicle and it would have exactly the same drag coefficient. Drag coefficient is a bit of a con trick, what is relevant and what should be used is CDA, the coefficient multiplied by the surface area, I guarantee you that when a manufacturer boasts how good the CD is on their new vehicle the CDA will be significantly worse than preceeding vehicles.
  2. I can just see Amanda speeding through some council estates in a Type-R Civic with the hardbass blaring now...
  3. Not sure if you've seen HatBoyHarvey before but he does good Fabia videos..... https://www.youtube.com/c/HatBoyHarvey/videos
  4. Is there any other colour?
  5. Just got home from changing 18" (Rainsports 2) to 16" wheels with Michelin Crossclimate 2's. IT's SO MUCH BETTER! Granted on a track the 18"s would be better - but on the road - wow! Quieter, much less harsh vibes + tyres way cheaper. I thought the 18s were a little to "twitchy" and they droned like heck on any but the smoothest surfaces. Yep looks like a taxi but I dont care. Recommended!
  6. Now thats a vision... but she does have George in ghe cellar so who knows...
  7. For some reason I'm starting to think Civic...
  8. For being a boy racer. I mean I am, but that's not the point 🤣
  9. An clue (although it might not be what you think it is?)
  10. Wilberpog is gone, but..... when does Wilberpog come back? and what type of clotging will he/she be wearing?
  11. If its under 6 yrs old and under 100k miles you might want to consider Skoda's All In offer. https://www.skoda.co.uk/owners/all-in-service-plan Subject to a free, no obligation, elegibility check that will highlight any issues with the car. You can book online and it takes about 2 hours and will give you a full report. You then have 7 days to decide if you want to go ahead. 2 services (your choice of fixed or variable), 2 MOTs, 2 yrs skoda warranty, 2yrs Skoda breakdown cover.. The free printed report would be weight in gold even if you take warranty cover elsewhere....
  12. 096 is the biggest case size..there is no "upper limit" on Ah capacity. Yes you need to alter the settings..if its the exact same battery Ah, type just alter the serial number setting by one digit...if its different Ah or type then these settings also need altering All info in my previous posts, but I'll repeat:- This is from I how to guide I did on the MK7 Golf forum..same applies for any MQB platform car like the Mk3 Octavia.. How to retro-fit a bigger capacity battery to a Mk7 Golf | GOLFMK7 - VW GTI MKVII Forum / VW Golf R Forum / VW Golf MKVII Forum VCDS coding required From the Main screen:- Select Control Module [Select] [19-CAN Gateway] Advanced Functions screen:- [Adaptions-10] New value choice screen:- Change the following four channels, inputting the relevant data about the new battery. IDE03256-MAS06105-Battery adaptation-Rated battery capacity IDE03256-MAS06106-Battery adaptation-Battery technology IDE03256-MAS06107-Battery adaptation-Battery manufacturer IDE03256-MAS06108-Battery adaptation-Battery Serial Number When you click on "Battery technology" (using VCDS 21.3.0) a drop down list appears with the following options (= actual meaning):- Wet = Standard Lead Acid Fleece = Standard A.G.M. Wickel6V Wickel12V Ultracap Gel = Standard Gel Lead Acid Lithium ions = Standard LiFePO4 EFB = Standard E.F.B. Binary - AGM = "Bipolar" A.G.M. type EFB+ = E.F.B. "Plus" type Not_assigned_10 Not_assigned_11 Not_assigned_12 Not_assigned_13 Not_assigned_14 Unknown According to various sources of information, including numerous car scans & threads on Ross-Tech, "Fleece" is for standard AGM batteries, "EFB" is for standard EFB batteries, & "Wet" is for standard lead acid batteries, as these settings are used at the factory. The setting of "Binary - AGM" is apparently for specialist "Bipolar AGM" batteries! Also the drop down list is from VCDS & not generated by your car's BCM, therefore, your car may not support all the options on the list, & the BCM will reject the value when you tell it to accept it! Battery BEM codes are now redundant with the above separate channels. The most important channels are:- Rated battery capacity, Battery technology, & Battery Serial Number. For the Battery Serial Number, just change one digit of the old one. This channel tells the BCM that a new battery has been installed & to relearn the new battery & forget any “learnt values” for the old battery!
  13. ANY vehicle will benefit from proper aerodynamics..... In fact I started a big thread on it years ago when I started retro-fitting more undertrays to my car to give it better aero.. The funny thing is that most of the parts exist for the "eco" versions, & on the current Polo & MK8 Golf VW have coated the whole underside....I reckon they have been reading my threads as they are top in Google for the subject on the MK7 Golf.. Here's one of them, most info in the first 8 posts:- How to retro-fit skid trays, aerodynamic under trays, & stone guards to a MK7 Golf | GOLFMK7 - VW GTI MKVII Forum / VW Golf R Forum / VW Golf MKVII Forum Fitting the rear window fins which is another well known aero mod as it reduces turbulence around the rear screen sides How to retro-fit the rear window spoiler fins to a Mk7 Golf Estate/Variant/S.W. | GOLFMK7 - VW GTI MKVII Forum / VW Golf R Forum / VW Golf MKVII Forum Lower rear arm covers & the Mk8 aero covers:- How to retro-fit the Mk8 rear suspension aero covers or stone guards to a Mk7 Golf. | GOLFMK7 - VW GTI MKVII Forum / VW Golf R Forum / VW Golf MKVII Forum Tiguan subframe cover:- How to retro-fit the front subframe cover from the VW Tiguan (2016->) | GOLFMK7 - VW GTI MKVII Forum / VW Golf R Forum / VW Golf MKVII Forum Decreasing the frontal cross sectional area via lowering the car, reducing the width of the tyres, not fitting mudflaps that stick out beyond the tyre, reducing the wing mirror size ........ The other way is to smooth the underside air flow...so cover up all those cavities etc...ever seen the underside of a Tesla or Ferrari??...smooth & totally covered from bumper to bumper...
  14. MQB platform cars were designed for stop/start & battery management Whether your country's importer spec'ed them that way is another matter..... BUT most of the European MQB cars got it from day one.. The July 2014 Skoda Octavia MK3 brochure list all cars from the basic 1.2lt "S" as having stop/start engine tech. Therefore BEM codes are N/A & have been superseded..by the four separate coding lines as I previously mentioned.
  15. All the car that many people ever need if they just potter about town and country on single lane roads or limited speed dual carriageways. Fine as a Pool Car for many business users / NHS, Carers, social workers etc & even trades people just doing local journeys.
  16. Quick pollen filter change. €10 Mahle from AutoDoc. 5 minute job following the instruction below. Nice to come across a job that has been designed to be easy to do.

The most important information to check is 504.00-507.00 compliance. Compliant oils are mainly 5W30. Very few are 0W30. Then brand doesn’t really matter. I used Shell Helix, formerly. I switched to Total Ineo Quartz 2 years ago. Both are ok. I used Castrol Edge a very long time ago, but it turned very expensive compared to others.
  18. https://www.carbonbrief.org/factcheck-how-electric-vehicles-help-to-tackle-climate-change It does highlight the biggest problem for EV's: poor the high speed efficiency. First-gen and badly built ones are mostly city runabouts. Even expensive 90+ kWh cars like Ford SUV mustang and Audi e-tron are pretty bad at this metric because they have such a large frontal surface area and poor drag coefficient. Efficiency is king. For EV to replace petrol, we need more aerodynamic cars, not bigger and bigger batteries.
  19. As PetrolDave mentions, lowline (address 20) and highline (address 5F) camera's are completely different so it's not a simple replacement. Just to add some more context... Lowline (J844): Highline (R242): The highline version typically needs a replacement windscreen as the mount it very different: They have different connectors, the highline has a heater and may require a second CAN-bus connection depending on equipment Not a plug and play change I'm afraid...
  20. Few of the latest pics... Now remapped to stage 1, Rear half roof wrapped. Maxton front splitter on. Callipers painted red.
  21. I bought my first Skoda back in June 2016, a Fabia III 1.2 TSI SE, which I still have and is going well. I have now added a 2018 Citigo SE to the family garage. Have been looking for one for a while and eventually found one that ticked the boxes. Several I had looked at before had a dubious history especially on the service front. Be careful out there when buying cars folks. 1 previous owner, full Skoda service history from the supplying dealer, clean MOT, good mechanical condition and in a nice colour. Picked it up last Sunday and drove the 120 miles home, better than expected on the motorways. Fitted 5 new All Season tyres on Monday, one to an ebay bought spare alloy wheel that is the same at the ones on the car. This fits straight in the boot with the tool kit fitting inside it just like the normal steel spare did. This was the first time that any of the wheels had been removed from the car including the spare. Replaced the locking wheel bolts with new normal wheel bolts and new wheel bolt caps to suit. The car came with one new full size summer tyre on the steel spare, two half worn rear tyres and fronts on 2mm and 3mm. So the 3mm has been fitted to the steel spare ( spare ) and I only need one new tyre in the spring for my summer set. The 2mm was thrown. Carpet mats fitted and upgraded the dipped beam bulbs for some Osram Night Breaker H7's. Did the same to my Fabia III. This car also needed the headlamp aim adjusted up just like the Fabia did. AC system regassed, this is the newer type R1234YF gas. 272 grams removed and refilled with 330 grams. This is a loss of about 18% from new in 3.5 years. I did the AC on the Fabia last Saturday, removed 375 grams and refilled with 450 grams. So a loss of about 18% with the older R134A gas but after 5.5 years. Today I stripped the brakes front and rear, cleaned, regreased them and refitted them. About 6 mm left on the front pads and the rear shoes hardly worn. Front mud flaps fitted with the rear mud flap to be fitted with plastic rear wheel arch liners next week. Exhaust pipe from cat was spray painted to protect it from rust with VHT ( Very High Temperature ) paint. Cheapest car in the family to insure but the most expensive to tax. Next MOT and service not due until the spring when I will swap back to the summer tyres. I have driven it all week and have done 350 miles already. Half joked that this will be my daily driver from now on, instead of the Fabia. Impressed. 😁 Thanks, AG Falco
  22. Indeed. I had hoped so. I live up a mile long farm track which is pretty rough and we get a lot of snow here as well - I'm hoping they will cut through the snow better. I didnt feel any undue flex on a slightly more spirited drive home luckily. It did handle the track so much smoother. It has "Softened" the turn in a bit but without feeling at all under tyred. No increase in understeer. Will try to remember to post follow ups later if any issues occur. If conditions get bad enough then I have a Yeti to fall back on. Only time I got the Yeti stuck was a couple of feet of snow and the car rafted up on it.
  23. FLAC is better due to song details tagging i.e. its read by more programmes etc ..well that's the conclusions I've read from highly detailed arguments in certain hi-fi forums....but than I only have one Apple device....the rest is Windows... Anyway I can play 24bit 192kHz studio master downloads (which I have) on my network player....& those files are LARGE... well comparing one song in 24bit 192kHz is 233MB -vs-59MB as 16bit 44.1kHz CD..!!
  24. 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd I generally change up between 2300 and 2500 rpm. 3rd to 4th more like 2000/2100. Above that depends on traffic, road type, speed limits etc. 30mph/50kph could be 4th, 5th or 6th depending on time of day, traffic, road conditions and so on. Like others said, just don't lug it where it is unresponsive or chuggy.
  25. Nooooo not at all... well, cheers for the idea. Seriously, I'd rather wait and find out though, I'm not going to spoil this for myself.
  26. Perhaps that just my latest bottle opener Speaking of which I'm off for my tea. Hope you guys aren't cheating and looking things up on Google images or checking metadata 😛
  27. Aaarrrggghhh... That air vent wheel looks so damn familiar
  28. I had no issues at all. took a couple of weeks to get here. Hope this helps

    Correct.. 🙂 Thanks, AG Falco
  30. The battery was 10 years old, time to go!
  31. Really they're saying what everyone here is telling you, predicted range is falling because winter is here and demand on the battery is high. What range are you actually getting from a charge? On my car it predicts 30km, I'm lucky to get 20.
  32. Yes you can alter it with VCDS...I swapped mine from flexible (factory setting) to fixed...
  33. I for one, think Wilberpog is a fab name. Does sound like the names my Mum gives things actually.
  34. I've been calling my cars Willberpog for many, many years. My Octy when I joined Brisky, was a Willberpog
  35. Welcome to Briskoda! You'll be delighted to know that there's a section for these Felicia/Caddy things and their "quirks".
  36. Cheers, Lee! They came off of a written-off Bohemia IIRC and are needing a wee bit of TLC, but it's nothing major. I just need to hope another Bohemia pops up without a wrecked interior next time...

It did. That is a fact. Only way they got the WLTP Certification on the models and the RDE2 figures. Go to VW507 00 at the next oil change if you want, or just do whatever now and top up with 5w 30 FS III or better 0w 30 FS III. Ask a Master Tech at a Dealership, ask a Call Handler at Skoda UK to check with Skoda CZ. Ask them to reply in writing. Do not ask someone that has not a clue though.
  38. Below freezing this morning and it was lovely with the EV to just defrost while heating the cars battery and interior before setting off that cost a few pence in electric at home, heated seat and steering wheel on, then top up the battery free while shopping. US Gallons.
  39. It really does sound great but apparently it requires real Skoda know how. Well above my pay grade, but I will make some calls and see what happens. Picking up the Kodiaq Sportline seats tomorrow. ..They do look nice though I have to find a new passenger seat airbag.
  40. Been a while since I have updated. New mods: Lowered 30mm Roof wrap Remap to stage 1 Maxton front splitter Painted callipers To come: Reiger side skirts Reiger TSI rear diffuser Quad exit custom exhaust
  41. Please tell me why the earlier cars don't need coding?
  42. Sorry, my usual poor photography of a great sky tonight over Forfar.
  43. Hello Well the gear box from the b.5b passat 2005 fitted my 08 superb with no problems.and cured my problem.no more noise at low speeds .driving perfectly now. Thanks for all the info and help.
  44. Thank you for all suggestions guys, sadly it seems I've found the issue in the locating pin on the VVT solenoid sheered off, I'd expect this to be because of my lazyness in both using the bolt to draw the VVT solenoid on and damaging the locating slot and then accompanied by the fact I timed the head off the block so likely was out of time with the block as I forgot to double check the timing of the camshafts after lining up the exhaust camshaft and crankshaft. So my rush to get it together has caused 2 bent intake valves, anybody any suggestions on maybe what I can possibly get away with replacing to get it running on a budget? How likely are the conrods to be bent or valve guides/pistons to be damaged, from what I can see the intake valve shafts appear straight so far so unsure if they've caused damage to the head itself or they've just been bent at the valve end so obviously not sealing correctly.

  46. All you lads cars are so clean and tidy so here's mine after a week of rain and grime - I have no excuse for not washing her - Well I could blame domestic duty, kids homework, horseriding or swimming but that's not the truth....! Its pure and utter laziness !! Wednesday is our shopping day - So its Dunne Stores in Roscommon. Dunne's is across from the cattle mart and you can hear the cows looing as they nervously wait. Wednesday morning the car-park is fairly empty and I have my own space. I had a picture of the shopping in the boot but it was blurry. Tankful of Corrib Oil B7 and its homeward bound !
  47. There is a saving if nearly all your journeys are sub 20miles. Then you have a big car for shifting stuff about and an engine for when you go on holiday to Scotland. Running it in sport mode just to gain a few more miles from the battery (while having fun) is not what this type of car is for. If you want to keep burning dinosaurs get a car that doesn't run on electricity.
