Blimey - no posts on here for more than 6 months?!? Well, our lovely 280 is having a nice long rest in the garden, after I had a syncope incident on my first day back at work September; I then lost my licence for 6 months. They initially thought I might have had a stroke, so I was rushed by ambulance to the Stroke Unit at St George’s Hospital to but thank Gawd it wasn’t. I’ve had many, many tests, heart CT’s, MRI’s, a tilt-table test and finally, I’ve had a permanent heart monitor embedded in my chest in December. It automatically notifies the cardio team at the hospital if I have a cardiac problem. The good news it that I haven’t had a further episode so fingers crossed, I hope to have the licence back early March. Unless you’ve been here, you have no idea what an impact not being able to drive has on one personally, the family and, in my case, on not being able to undertake my part-time job too. But it’s the pleasure of driving the car I really miss, so make the most of your 280/272 every single time you get into it. Happy New Year everyone..👍🏻
  2. Hello all. The problem it is solved. I reclaim the thermostat and I am waiting for the answer. Meanwhile i bought another thermostat rated to 88 C. The car runs now in open road at 90 C. I went to the city with traffic lights and to highway to test and in the end the average mileage by ECU was 6.7 l/100 that mean 7.0 real. I really see an improvement. The AQW engine has 2 lambda probes, catalytic converter and obeys to EURO 4. 82 C not the right temperature. Thank you all for your time and attention. Have a nice new year.
  3. Short to ground is usually the fault detected when water interferes with the current path, this can be due to condensation buildup in the brushless motor circuitry or in the power connector or even a cracked fuse.

Happy days for me … ordered end July, collected today! 245 petrol manual with pano roof, Canton and wireless charging. Very happy owner who recommends Garland’s 100%.
  5. Incoming, hopefully. Replacing my Octavia vRS 245.
  6. Hence the words "If you are competent" - there are those who can, those keyboard warriors who think they can, and those who cannot. I have done this on both my 1.4 and 1.9 TDI Mk1's so fit into the "who can" category.
  7. Just because it's "legal" doesn't mean it's the kindest thing to do. Farting in your face isn't illegal, but it's not nice. I do find sitting behind someone with their brake lights on for a long period in the dark, "less pleasant" than sitting behind someone without their brake lights on.
  8. Tees-side is tantamount to Yorkshire!
  9. I have been virtual shopping on CTC's website already, the prices are very reasonable compared to the Japanese sites.
  10. I can see the stories now; 'Is your curry hook wi-fi connected to your infotainment system? 'Blutooth connectivity for your curry hook curry temperature sensor - don't get home to find a cold vindaloo ever again'. etc etc

  12. From day one I thought the shiny smooth cover to the storage compartment in front of the gear lever was annoying as seemed the logical place to put keys or glasses but they would just slide off especially with the holes in the surround. Normal non slip matting is too thick to allow the cover to slide with this type of mat in place. A piece of pond liner is the solution! I pushed a piece of paper down onto the cover to trace the shape and then cut the liner with a blade and steel rule leaving the front edge 15mm longer so that it tucked under the gap the cover slides into. It is held in place by a 10mm strip of double sided tape under the end nearest the gear shift. I measured the thickness of the liner I used and it is 1.07mm thick so say 1mm. The Cover slides in and out perfectly.
  13. I've been on this forum for about 9 years now and it was invaluable in helping me to firstly decide the Yeti was a car I'd rather not live without and then to decide on spec. (and indeed what some of the options actually were) and it was through the advice of some of the earliest members I took the trouble to get my Elegance supplied on 16" rather than 17" wheels, which I've never regretted. Throughout most of that time there has been light-hearted banter, excellent advice and on many occasions clear disagreement about the "right" way to do things. But posters seemed to be able to agree to disagree and leave the OP to decide what advice to follow and what to ignore. You quickly learnt who "knew their stuff", for example The Plumber was held in high regard for his technical knowledge, Llanigram was the go-to guy for off-roading and had an impressive knowledge of legislation and there were others of their standing or close to it. I learnt a lot along the way, most of which I will never put into practice but at least put me a little less in the role of sheep-to-the-slaughter when the car goes into the garage for work. But what I don't remember was any unnecessary and sometime sustained unpleasantness - usually about something totally inconsequential. Unfortunately owners have moved on and, at least in my opinion, some of the newer members seem to think they have a monopoly on being right and aren't slow in expressing that anyone holding a different view is either incompetent or a fool. A couple of recent examples are the tirades being delivered about where to put the locking bolt (if at all) when the OP simply asked about replacing a rounded-of bolt and the "discussion" about the possible insurance consequences of changing the ride height and, by inference, handling characteristics. It's perfectly reasonable for a forum member to point out modifications can affect insurance and totally out of order to say that this isn't appropriate for a car forum. If you don't like any advice, don't take it but it might be helpful to others now or in the future. I will continue visiting the forum because there is always something to be learnt and also hopefully occasionally I may be able to help someone with their issue but I have to say that these days there's an increasing urge to use the "ignore" button for some members and their content. If this posting offends anyone sorry about that but I'll happily add you to my Ignore list as I'd simply rather correspond with posters who can respect the views of others even if they can't agree with them. Best wishes for the New Year to the many, many forum members able to participate in a sensible and civilised manner.
  14. Not used that one but have used similar in older cars and currently have a similar one in my MX5 for the Clarion thats in there (and for the spare thats in tne garage cupboard. Having said that do you actually need one for the Fabia as the OE head unit is actually din sized, albeit with an oversize fascia...

Welcome to Briskoda. I also have just bought my first Škoda. Great cars and a great club!
  16. The oil sensor connector may have been damaged so that it doesn't seal properly when mated to the sensor. Try pulling it off (gently) without disengaging the latch, and see if it just pulls off. Although oil itself is a good electrical insulator, engine oil loaded with contaminants like soot and moisture may be quite a good conductor, I guess.

Yep … the whole reason I went manual after x5 DSGs… gotta plan for the end of the ICE world

I'm not overly worried about the whole situation, however I'm also worried about how it's going with the overly woke climate brigade. I currently have a Mini Clubman JCWbl with 59k on the clock, that owes me nothing and I'm keeping for a while longer whilst running the new one in (or a bit longer! 😁). No doubt I'll end up on EV, however the maximum milage per charge isn't sufficient at the moment for my needs! Even so, I'm keeping this one until it's a Musium piece, so I'll probably be the oldest rebel in town!!! 😁🤣🤣🤣
  19. Is the new Dacia Jogger a suitable roomster replacement £14,995 to £17,395 Seems a good spec, and flexible seating, and a reasonable price, just like the roomster used to be when it was still being sold https://cdn.group.renault.com/dac/gb/transversal-assets/brochures/model-brochures/Jogger-mini-eBrochure.pdf
  20. Oil is an insulator, I doubt that it would be creating a short and blowing a fuse. A lot of gate automation motors run in an oil bath. Other than the oil level/temperature sensor there is not a lot beneath the sump mating faces.
  21. It will be as Wino suggests or a bad connection to the pump unit, that should not pull down the other controllers though. Short to ground actually means voltage too low, it means the voltage has dropped too low and will either be the charging system as Wino has linked to (my vote) or a high resistance/damaged cable, it could of course be an intermittent short to earth but the conditions when it occurs are high current draw low (or no) charging voltage.

looks good in silver, silver rare on a new car nowadays, compared to 6 or 7 years ago when every 2nd car was silver. curious though, why register a new car on 31 december 2021, when 24 hrs later you can have a 2022 registered car which will be worth more come the time to sell
  23. You'll know when the dash starts buzzing to the muzak. Pro'ly between the radio and the cubby. PS, Velcro.
  24. Indeed, I just tried and it connected wirelessly, activated WiFi automatically. For the radio tuner, I went with the free version of navradio, it is so much better the the Factory one.
  25. Probably if I cannot fix it with VCDS. But not today as the car is driveable with windscreen wipers. I forgot to say in the previous posting that the BCM came from a POLO 9N3.
  26. Thanks, that’s a relief! An early Happy New year to you:-)

AC Branches are not all equal. (Equally as bad.) Not all will tell you at handover there is only 1 key but they will get you one and then the Salesperson is always on a day off. unless you walk in and catch them. Not all give the 2 year Service & MOT offer for Free as a sweetner then fails the car at the MOT on the things it failed on the year before before you collected the car. Not all will have disposed of the discs and broken spring before you get there to see them. Not all will give advisories on wiper blades, brake fluid change etc that were all on MOT's before they passed it in the MOT at their Test Station / Workshop the year before. @AnnoyingPentium AC Peugeot Ayr is night and day different from AC Vauxhall Ayr. The traffic fumes off the A77 must do something that is not good on some employees. The risk is that good trustworthy and honest workers are off to pastures new and what is left are those trained & managed by total muppets.

It tends to be a sales side of AC that caused most issues to customers, my daughter bought a pre reg Leon Cupra at a very good price and sold her previous Ibiza privately and so far has not had any trouble with AC other than accidentally when using their SEAT area on their website, accepted their advice to take her under warranty Cupra into a closer workshop - now that is not good advice for a car still under warranty as that year 2 service will never end up on the SEAT digital service record system - that sort of advice is shocking to their customers, too late now though!
  29. I quite like it, to be honest.... I just wish they'd styled the rest of the car to match the '1980s Cool' as well. Perhaps they could bring back the Vector W8, with a few modern features?
  30. That will make Varioflex removable rear seats or whatever they are called hugely complicated, they probably wont continue. I dont know if its one or two decades since I learned of a new development or requirement that made me think "I really should consider a new or newer car", nowadays scarcely a week goes by before I read of yet another feature or characteristic that furthers my resolve to not buy anything newer than what I have, in fact my EU5 vahicle is a dissapointment in so many ways that I would buy the best example of an older non afflicted vehicle.

Hello its me again. This time I'm confused by the following specification. 1.2 fabia TSI SE L DSG estate. Where does it stand in the specification range. Is it a good car to buy or not? As you can see I'm new to Skodas. Looking forward to replies. Many thanks KC
  32. Thanks to @JR RS I got the right item Ali Express for the rear tail light LED indicators. Didn't realise it was so easy to fix, it was less than 10minutes. Will take video later on to show just how bright and better it looks compared to stock bulb. No error codes, no hyper flash. Just plug and play. happy with the purchase.
  33. ^ Well you are Scottish afterall 😁
  34. The moths in my wallet cry at the very thought.
  35. Every EV car should have one of these fitted as standard. https://youtu.be/b9XAC-BvUyo
  36. The WHEA bit suggests its a Hardware rather than a software issue. But, just incase, try this (instructions copied from a website) click the Start button and type "cmd" into the search bar. select Command Prompt (Admin) or CMD but run as administrator. Into the command prompt, type in (or copy&paste it): sfc /scannow This should do an integrity check of the system. The other thing to try is a harddrive/ssd check.https://www.windowscentral.com/how-check-if-hard-drive-failing-smart-windows-10Eas The easiest way to do it on that list is using the performance monitor, as this is more visual rather than typing code. See what it comes back with from both of those.
  37. agree half agree .. yes my 1982 E28 525i is very slow compared to anything now a days but its a car that you really have to involve your self in driving , steering is heavy and you have to actually use your arms , no drive by wire so you can actually feel the throttle working , it leans going into corners its 40 year old tech but i could drive that car every day day in day out and never feel bored . You have to interact with the car and when you do you get a sence of satisfaction from doing it ..it has soul and presence ..... new EV maybe quick etc but lacks emotion ... company i work for has contracts to move Porsches , Lambos, ferrari, Aston martin , classics etc ..... weve had Porsches in my family for over 25 years ,,, My sister had one of the last air cooled 993 targa's..... gutted she had to sell it when she got pregnant .... It was a drivers car the noise when you started it was enough to make you think "ok im gonna have to get my head on " when i get sent to pick up a new 150k plus you just zone out .. completely dead of soul
  38. A couple of my recent efforts with black and white (mainly Jaguar related😁)
  39. Off topic again, apologies for that, but for the sake of clarity and correctness. Staring at, or having bright lights shining at you does affect your night vision, thereby, if the bright lights from cars in front are shining at you then your vision will be affected for the time it takes for your eyes to acclimatise to normal lighting, which could be several minutes. Any bright light will do this, but red lights are not as bad as white light. Also, constantly looking at bright lights will in the fullness of time cause eye damage. Again, white light is worse than other colours.

I remember a couple of bus lanes in Southampton that were only in operation from x time to x time. People were so afraid of getting a ticket they remained pretty much empty leading to unnecessary congestion. Surely it's not beyond the whit of man to have clear signage, perhaps even illuminated, to indicate when motor vehicles can use the bus lanes.
  41. You may enjoy Focus mode on iOS now, as you can set your phone so nothing comes through (except the people you add to a list). So you could make a Focus Mode, (Away) or (Shower) Or (Running) and listen to your music, in peace.
  42. Don't take this the wrong way but I'm amazed, having had the new screen fitted twice already you're contemplating having it done a third time for the sake of a ticket holder. If the screen is good then I'd spend a quid in a stick on ticket holder from eBay. I've used them for years in various cars and they work equally well if not better. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/185193929387?hash=item2b1e6b1aab:g:3GYAAOSwgwhfGGjB
  43. And today on "I buy more ****e for my Fabia", we have this tailored rubber boot liner... Before... And now with all of the "emergency" supplies inside...
  44. I'm not a huge fan of the rubber handle to pull the boot shut.
