  1. A few more. Went brutal with the processing on one or two.
  2. You should see the other side! It's just as bad, except it has massive toe-out!
  3. I dun a neuw photie. The car had just driven 200 miles and not been washed, as the detailer recommended leaving it a few days first. If only I could have taken photos on the day he did the car It does look a bit better if you click on the image rather than just view it in the web page.
  4. Struggling to turn over, rather than tick over? Petrol or Diesel? On a six year old car with stop-start, I'd say the battery has quite likely done well. There'll be stories of batteries lasting ten years or more, but I'd certainly get it checked. There were a batch of duff Moll batteries which might've been around that era, but I suspect it'd have given up long before now if it was one of those. My Superb V6TDI really struggled to fire up when the battery was getting to the twilight of its career. Something to do with the Cold Cranking Amperage, and needing to spin over at a certain rate. Gaz
  5. Ask them to match the fuel in the tank to the new car like for like, only fair!
  6. Had a crack at vinyl wrapping the chrome surround on the front grille. Some slight imperfections on one side, but otherwise looks good. $20 for gloss black vinyl vs. $200 to buy the black trim alone! Winning 😁
  7. Just a quick update, for anybody that has helped me here and may be interested. I went for a 2017 Volvo V40 T5. As new, mint inside and out with only 21k on the clock. The leather seats look like they haven't been sat on. Cheaper insurance than the Fabia vRS too, which surprised me, given the larger engine, all wheel drive and 245bhp. Thanks again to everyone.
  8. AC Service is a con. Simple as that. Your air con system may lose a small amount of gas over time - very small amount - as in 10g out of the 500g over a year. Not enough to cause issues for a good few years to come. Say you go for a AC service, all they are doing is sucking the gas out, refilling it to the correct level with a small amount of oil added and kicking it out the door. No pollen filter change, no anti bacterial bomb. Say you have 400g of gas in your system and its working just fine, theyre taking your 400, giving you back 500g. They are charging you £140 to simply add 100g of gas to your car although the system was working. Keep in mind I have someone that comes to me and will fill a system from 0g up to 800g of gas for £100. Basically AC servicing is the next thing after carbon cleans after nitrogen for your tyres It all takes money out your pocket and gives you a placebo feeling in return.
  9. A couple from Brands Hatch today. Tried some intentional camera movement on a few.
  10. A couple from last night.
  11. Loss of traction on skoda superb 2014 estate 170 bhp 4x4 on accelerating
  12. Your understanding is incorrect. The waterpump has a sliding sleeve.

Anyone wanting to upgrade to W11 where there PC/laptop doesn't meet MS specs just needs to make a bootable USB using https://rufus.ie/en/ and tick the 'bypass W11 requirements' bit as detailed here https://www.becs.co.uk/windows-11-bootable-usb-rufus/ It works perfectly as I have tested it on a 9yo Dell M4800 that only has a TPM1.2 chip.
  14. I thought the battery SOC function was deleted sometime before MY16 - my 65 plate Octavia does not have it.
  15. Hi welcome to the forum, my money's on a sticking thermostat, I understand that these have a sliding sleeve to allow quick warm-up - not an uncommon fault for these to stick closed.
  16. The incredibly excessive toe-in? 🙄 G
  17. I take it the charger was not on overnight, but if not I cannot believe even a new battery would hold 12.8 volts after standing overnight without a charge.
  18. I don't think the 1.4TSI was used in the Fabia. I had the 1.2 TSI (4 cylinder) in a Roomster and now the 1.0TSI (3 cylinder) in a Fabia estate, both had the lower bhp and both pretty good for my purposes with the 1.0 being especially frugal unless thrashed!
  19. If you haven't already tried, it might be worth cleaning the screen, in case some grot is interfering with the touchscreen operation....

Once you have got the VIN for your car you can set up Skoda Connect. On a computer you can go into the Skoda Connect portal and download a Digital Certificate for your car which will give you details of all accessories. An example is attached, though it does not seem to include some extras, for example mine has a factory fitted towbar which is not mentioned. The Certificate also shows every bit of maintenance that has been carried out on the car by Skoda dealers so it is useful when you come to sell.

Ok, looks as if the 507 spec will do the job fine. It will only be in the car for a year ( and probably low mileage) despite being long life. Thanks
  22. 'unable hold a preset' was one of the first failures on my Amunsden2, shortly followed by insistence that my home location was a carpark in Dunkirk when I switched on the satnav. Remedy - complete new system from Skoda UK under hard fought 5th year warranty claim. Although not close to you, You might like to give Satnav Systems (UK) Ltd a ring, 0808 222 0000. They have received positives from YOC members with Amundsen2 problems.
  23. Sorry to say but something is either lost in translation or he doesnt know what hes doing. Unless hes saying glow plug 2 is faulty? an error code is not a single number - its between 5-8 characters with a description also. And suggesting you keep an eye on a fault is an odd one? If a glowplug has failed its relatively easy to diagnose with a ohmmeter and still fairly easy to change. So I dont get a word of what hes said or why he has said to leave it?
  24. That'll be because of low battery voltage. When I had a glow plug fail it brought up the engine light not the glow plug light. I have never heard of that, error codes are usually 2 letters and 4 numbers.

Yes, I’ve noticed in my manual TSI that there is very little engine braking compared to cars of old. Another interesting thing I noticed is about gear selection. We are often told to use the highest gear we can - but i reckon its not always the most fuel efficient. We have a long straight road near where I live, with a reasonable hill. Coming down, foot off the throttle in 5th gear and the instant fuel economy is showing around 150 - 180 mpg. Do the same in fourth and it shows “- - - “, so full fuel cut off. I guess its the anti-stall kicking in when in 5th…

Well, cancelling your order would just put on some other brand queue Also prices are going up, so make sure to be sure.

Since about 4-5 years ago, they all default to Normal when restarted There was a period when gear indicator would still show previous setting (but wasn’t in Eco). Eco only really gives coasting when going downhill, but tsi engines use very little fuel when coasting anyway
  28. £170 for a 'kin track rod end 😲 Nice work if you can get it!
  29. I get some creaks at the front, just had MOT and nothing found.
  30. Clutch master cylinder, a rare failure. That pushrod that you assume is metal is actually plastic as is the entire cylinder assembly with the exception of an internal magnet to activate the reed switch. About £118 retail from Skoda/TPS, as low as €18 delivered on the internet for a pattern part. A tricky job first time round especially fitting the rigid pipe into the cylinder, make sure the pipe seal did not detach and remain in the old cylinder and that it fits back on the pipe end with a forced "click" do not put it in the new cylinder & then fit the pipe, it will not seal. In fact given that the cylinders dont wear and leak that pipe seal may well be where your leaking fluid is coming from, has any work been done before in that area?
  31. Smashing light, post sunset, in my garden last night: Gaz
  32. I'm sure you have it. As far as I know every new car in EU has to have it since eCall is mandatory in EU for making emergency calls.
  33. Hi there, good luck with your search. As others have said, prices are relatively firm at the moment. Not quite as bad as earlier in the year, but still pretty swollen compared to 2019/2020. I was after a manual TSI in either hatch or estate towards the end of 2020. Finally got a car Feb 2021. I found mine on the approved used Skoda website, checked stock daily, it was listed without an image and not much info at all really but turned out to be the best one I could possibly have bought for my 13k budget. Not sure what's going to happen with prices as the year goes on, I imagine they'll start coming down as people become more cost conscious. I wasn't too fussed about spec, heated seats were desirable as were all round parking sensors, there weren't many cars with the front sensors on. The pre-facelift 230 has them included along with some other goodies, but these cost a bit more than a similar age 220, unless the seller doesn't know what it is.

I take it you took it to a Skoda Dealership / Approved repairer and not Skoda. So it is not OK if it was working as expected before and is not doing so now. Is it still within the Warranty or reported as having an issue while in the Manufacturers Warranty? .................. The Gradient matters, but then the Technician should know that, maybe checking the sensor.
  35. One problem with using cruise and trying to get maximum economy is it will always try to maintain commanded speed - which in rolling country means it will back-off on downslopes, then throttle-up as soon as it senses a speed drop on the upslope. Depending on the gradient, ACC might even start braking on the downslope. Using 'smart' right foot and Mk.1 eyeball, you would allow the speed to creep up (within reason) on the downslopes - then allow the speed to bleed off a little on the upslopes.
  36. That's the one. My handle is still in good working order after DIY job.
  37. AirCons do not need to be 'serviced' unless there is a problem, If the Aircon still blows nice and cold then it does not need servicing - work on the principle that if it not broke don't fix it. I the cabin smell bad when the heater/Aircon is running - change the \pollen filter, if that does not fix the smell then buy a cleaning bomb for Halfords or similar for £10, an easy DIY job. Sell a service is a simple up-sell and pure profit at the prices they charge. I ram my Octy for 7 years without the need for a service and my R at 6 years is still blowing as cold as ever.
  38. ^ That video is way too simplistic & misses stuff out... - No mention that cars after about 2003 have pop rivets instead of bolts holding the carrier to the door, those rivets have to be drilled out and new rivets obtained and fitted with a suitable rivet tool capable of taking the size. Rivet size 6.4x10mm. Part number N91078801 - The door in the video is missing its wiring harness. The harness has to be fed through holes in the metal panel and connected to the lock module inside the door & to the rest of the door components. - The interior door release bowden cable is missing from that door. It comes from the lock module inside the door and has to be fed through a hole in the panel. - The door lock pin rod is missing from that door and has to be fed through a hole in the top of the panel. - The door speaker is missing in the video. They are pop riveted from the factory & have to be swapped from your old panel. Rivet size 4.8x15mm. Part number N90765701 3 plastic rivets have to be drilled out of the panel in order for the panel to be removed without having to remove the door lock module including the key barrel along with it. The rivets are no longer needed afterwards, they are simply to facilitate factory assembly of lock and panel both together. Once the panel is off, remove the factory plastic bracket and chuck it in the bin. Tape over the 3 holes in the new panel. Plastic rivet locations....
  39. @maxychat Your choice was way easier as You already have face lift radio with built-in Bluetooth. That means, that You can use any Bluetooth device over Your in-car radio. Having vehicle pre-face lift vehicle, the easiest solution would be to replace the WHOLE head unit with something modern. Your setup looks excellent! 👌
  40. The robins expressed a clear preference for the meal worms over the bird seed!
  41. Colourful sky this evening. Really glad I polished the car as it makes all the difference to the reflection😃
  42. Barely a breath of wind to ruffle the water this evening.........
  43. One from this evening. Steel wool, a whisk and a willing victim.
  44. Came across a few notable cars in Belper (my first car was a VW Derby, although this one was far from stock)
  45. I tried I tried it and it caused a massive pressure loss in the engine and turbocharging pressure and caused loss of engine timing 😆 I know why you suggested me, I'm the only one stupid enough to open the filler cap with the engine running, and do you know what, you are right!!!!!! back in a minute!
  46. I have the same engine in a Passat Estate, our family shed, and no amount of change with OBDEleven gave the same effect as an engine and DSG remap. My motivation for a remap was exactly the same. The power and torque benefits were an added bonus, as was the MPG benefit! On the Superb (220 Sportline) the OBDEleven change was sufficient, so I’m holding off a remap (for now, it won’t last).
  47. Nothing worse than someone with a problem then never getting back with an update, so kudos to you 🍻
  48. Thought I'd update this... Rookie error: make sure the SSD (a slimmer drive) isn't narrowly missing the SATA connector.

Carlodiesel. Have used miller's many times but found their recommended oil was also over soecced as being 504 and 507. I think it's 502 for annual servicing and 504 for extended. But finding anything less than 507 isn't easy. Wonder what the garages use. Just wondered if using 507 would be detrimental as I guess it contains detergents for diesels etc.
