  1. Reminds me of an incident many years ago when a colleague had a week old Ford Orion company car that he took the family to West Midlands safari park. He was driving through the Giraffe enclosure when a baby Giraffe walked between the two lanes of cars, fell and hit the A post, breaking the screen, bending the A post and door frame. The picture he drew for the insurance claim form was hysterical! The Giraffe was fine by the way.
  2. So I got a call from my local dealership yesterday asking if I'd still be dropping off my Superb today at 10am for the diagnostic. I confirmed and asked how much it would cost to replace the timing belt. £600 was the reply so I told them that I'd leave it for now. I than rang around a couple of garages for alternative quotes and the best I got was from a local specialist who quoted me £525 to replace both the water pump and belt. My thoughts were that if the pump couldn't be fixed under warranty then I'd take my business elsewhere. But then I recalled the that the technician that I'd spoken to previously had told me that the labour cost to replace the belt would be less, as they've already stripped the parts down to check the pump. So I rang the girl back to inquire if this was the case and was told that they'd only be able to confirm the costs after the technician had stripped it down. Great! So I dropped my Superb off with them this morning, hoping that they'd diagnose the water pump as faulty. To be honest, I was expecting them to say that it's perfectly fine, they can't find any issues and I owe them £109. Then surprise surprise, at 2pm I got a call from them telling me that the pump was indeed faulty and would be repaired under warranty. Fab news, what about the timing belt though? Well with the reduced labour cost and belt kit that'll come to £332.44. Would you like us to go ahead with that? DAMN RIGHT I WOULD! So I've left it with them and it will be ready to collect sometime tomorrow. So all in all I think that's a pretty good result. Now I just need to sort my claim out for unplanned hotel costs with the European AA. 🙂 Mart
  3. You've probably just altered the roof switch to disable it.
  4. The 1.5tsi which is basically a 1.4tsi need a special tool to set up the valve timing. It’s very expensive and not many will invest in it for the small return. many people are quoting prices without the engine they have. Tdi are completely different to tsi timing belts. but even so, the prices you’ve been quoted are exterosionate!
  5. So I finally sold it to a not-so-local dealer. I showed Motorway price to him and he agreed to pay the motorway price. 2013 Skoda Octavia 2l diesel, sold for £5200 to a dealer just outside M25. Unfortunately trying to sell it locally was fruitless. I live very close to North Circular, driving into it need ULEZ compliant car to avoid £12 per day. All enquiries were "is it ULEZ compliant". Can't you read it's a 2013 diesel...... I had it on Carwow for a week initially for £5250, no dealer bid on it. So overall happy with the price I got. In summary, to get best price, have to do some legwork and talk to dealers if private sale is fruitless. So overall cost for me to run this car for 30k miles VS running a similarly priced Nissan Leaf for 36k miles and very pessimistic resale value. edit: if anyone bought this, I can tell you all about this car: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202209149769755
  6. Second trying the 1.0 TSI - be aware there are two engine versions, keep a lookout for the 6-speed, 110 PS version.
  7. In which case he doesn't know that the pistons, or even the piston rings, are shot. Change your garage.
  8. You need "Developer" mode enabling on your unit You will need to bring up 5F entertainment and login with security access (VCDS will assist, could be S12345) Then you can enter Adaptations and find Developer (has something like this in the name) and change it's status to enabled. Save and exit. Ignition off and on just to be sure Enter your normal hidden engineering menu on your system, and this time when you see 'Software Updates' & 'HMI Codes' keep holding menu button a bit longer and you will see the new menu show
  9. That is from the SSP document (training material) for Octavia II, and having skimmed the document there is no difference and they simply lump in all in that weight range. The picture/data tables from old catalogs like @langers2k just posted will give you more better comparisons, but still the caveat applies of specification will change the values. I shall check other documents and see if there is any listed differences.
  10. As above, the actual weight depends on a great number of factors. Both the 10/2009 and 01/2010 brochures show the following table which suggests the estate is ~15kg heavier in it's 2.0l TDi form:

You may or may not know, but that site isn't UK based despite the Web address. Will likely be shipped from Berlin, which seems wasteful and problematic if a return were required.
  12. Too many variables to answer this accurately, there are "typical" weights but they again can vary depending on chose specifications Glass is heavy too, along with changes to other parts of the car that add up, wiring looms and extra control modules all factor in. The empty weight range is quite large, and has the caveat 1) listed underneath the picture

AFAIK it should be just plug and pray play. Not sure about your warrantly, cannot see how it would effect it really (time to read the very small fine print)
  14. Make sure you are looking for a maintenance charger and not a trickle charger - explainer HERE.
  15. ETA: Sorry I missed Warrior193's post when I posted this post. Please note - I am not a mechanic or expert in anything. Depends on what was used electrically but yes it might have topped the battery up but this might not be to fully recharged and bear in mind a 6 year old battery won't have the capabilities of a new battery. The seatbelt fault might just need the connector firmly pushing together or if the battery has got too low it can put the computer's and their programs on a merge electric diet which they don't like and can cause they to play up. With a battery not too low the computer might reset itself or you might be able to speed things up by clearing any error codes stored.

Guys ... Nor sure about consumption I've only done about a quarter of a tank as I've had Covid but I don't really check it. Engine feels rough with a marked drop in performance. I only put it in as a test and I certainty have the answer. I have a mate who has an S3 who swears he cant tell the difference. Next tank will feel like a free remap

@Nick_H So i take it if back to 99 ron then you will not be using Texaco. ? What happened with you running the E10, poorer MPG, or performance with the engine misbehaving?
  18. We've debated on here several times why Skoda UK say the cambelt should be chnaged after 5 years (or equivalent miles) when VW UK and Audi UK and other country importers either specify much longer time/mileage intervals or even 'lifetime' (whatever that means). The more cynical members (me included) have suggested it's to provide a source of income for dealers, but I doubt we'll ever know as many of us (me included) are risk averse.
  19. Had the cambelt and water pump changed in September 2021 on my 2016 1.6tdi and was charged £600 at Skoda in Canterbury where the car has always been serviced. Have to say the old belt looked brand new.
  20. The Pirelli Scorpion Verde fitted from factory I have found to be very good, no issues. Not sure what the difference in grip is but they for sure last longer than the Contis in my experience.
  21. It is a pity that you cannot recharge that battery and then test it, really to try to work out if that battery has indeed run out of useful life - or the battery monitor built into the -VE lead has become faulty and has led to that battery being under charged. My wife has an August 2015 VW Polo 1.2TSI 110PS 6MT, and maybe 10 months ago it did change its charging characteristics enough to get me worried, but after changing the battery serial number, things have improved, though I'd doubt if that battery will remain useful for another 2 years, but I'm sticking with it while keeping an eye on its "habits" via a cheap Chinese made plug in DVM, new AGM battery ready for action for when the time comes. Remember that your car will need an EFB or AGM battery and it should be coded to the car. I'd doubt if the seat belt warning defect will be the root cause of this issue. Edit:- don't get me wrong, it could well be that that battery has indeed reached the end of its life,I am just trying to cover all bases just in case there is another reason other than that battery.
  22. Never base a timing belt off a different cars belt intervals. Different belts are made from different materials, under completely different stresses, different width so more load spread. Its not a one size fits all question and its a dangerous way to think about it.
  23. Make sure you get a few quotes for the repairs rather than just going to the nearest body shop. Wouldn't want to get fleeced!
  24. I'm super happy with my Superb iV. So happy, in fact, that I'd like to replace it with a full BEV. But there isn't anything on the market that isn't either insanely expensive or a completely different car. I'm currently doing about 50% of my yearly km on battery and the rest on petrol. I figured I could make this 90% if I could add another 10 kWh or even 95% if I could add 20. There's plenty of room in the trunk where the reserve cables are. So, anyone attempted this? Managed it, even? I'd love to hear about it.
  25. I shall send you a PM, you will be having to operate on your own choice.
  26. There's a point where percent charge at home on EV tariff vs percent charge at public chargers. If you go over that point, you are better off buying dino-juice. Always got to remember, for most people, rapid charging is rare. I used to do it once in a blue moon in Leaf, I don't foresee needing it for our normal day-out in the Tesla, only during actual road trips. So I personally don't care about rapid charging prices, I only care about the service associated with it: many stalls per loc, toilet, restaurant, etc. Also got to remember, destination charging is usually much cheaper or sometimes free if you can get on them. ABC = always be charging.
  27. Thanks for your help. I did try pressing the lid in various places but this did not work also some suggested a short thump but still no result. Tried today and used my fob to lock and unlock fast, many times and its freed the lock. Left the lid open and tried the same action with the fob, locking rod pushed onto lock, and found that it tended to stick but when I used the lock/unlock on the fob at a fast speed it freed the locking every time. Perhaps a new trick if you get stuck. Now need to tape up the lid until next week , don't want it sticking again. Anyway have booked my car in next week for a new fitting Thanks.
  28. Terrific!! Thanks varooom. Will report back if that works. Hoping to find out if the 'Driving Mode' function has been disabled or deleted.

We understand your frustration. I ordered in July 21 and still no car (planned like yours in Week 40), so even if you took over October 21 order in comparison to others, the wait is currently not that terrible yet. For me it is already 14 months since the order. If mine is made by some miracle in week 40 + transport + papers, that will mean almost 16 months till delivery. This is a disgrace. 🤮
  30. Hello can anyone tell me the weight difference between a 2009 2 litre diesel hatchback Octavia and the estate version, I can't find anything definitive online, for instance a parkers page suggested the hatch was 40kg heavier which i thought was odd
  31. Happy camper here now up to 1896. Great service from Bournemouth Hendy. Booked within 2 weeks and a few hours later call that various updates done for ACC thinking it’s in Europe and inability to save satnav destinations. Despite a service manager overhearing the problems as I checked car in and trying to explain it as ACC being designed to be really cautious. My clue had been the traffic sign recognition changing to km p hour when it misbehaved ie 110 showing when on motorway it should be 70. The ACC couldn’t cope with rain but worked well some of the time. Touchscreen laggy, Kessy getting confused who was getting in car etc. Inability to save destinations or home location. All seems instantly improved. Mib module wasn’t talking to Skoda and getting updates apparently , so that was fixed and updated to 1896. Then as soon as got home an OTA update appeared so all looking healthy. See photos as was part F and now H. New assistance screen too Latest versions
  32. Interesting. Do you have similar details for the estate as well?

@Nick_H Just out of interest, when was that tank filled with E10 then if you have had covid. (Formulation does get changed Summer & Winter.) It is more hygroscopic. Not good for having in a tank like tens of thousands of used cars have sitting unsold since last year. (Petrols & Diesels.) There was still Winter Spec E5 or E10 in the UK until March and mid October winter spec Petrol starts getting delivered in the UK starting in Scotland and the North of England. Lovely stuff at Tesco / Esso quite often in the North. Momentum 99 ron Minimum, and that can be at times during the winter from Continental Europe and 100 / 100+ ron. The same can happen with other retailers Super Unleaded that is not coming in as a Base Fuel.
  34. Hello Zagato, welcome to the forum. One thing you may not be aware of - due to the way VW charging system utilises energy recuperation under over-run and braking conditions, the alternator very rarely will be permitted to charge the battery to more that 60-75% - even on a battery in perfect condition - leaving the remaining 25% battery capacity available for regenerative charging.
  35. Please note - I am not a mechanic or expert in anything. My wife has a 2015 Mk3 1.2 TSI (90) and I have years of experience of recharging and reviving car batteries for neighbours and friends. It's all very easy stuff but to do it properly and fully can often require two things that some don't posses - time and patience. I have had a couple of failures where it was just too late or the battery had been flogged to death. If you want to try and revive it I may be able to help you or it might be too late anyway or you may prefer to replace with new now anyway. Do read the (Driver's Handbook) Operator's Manual about battery replacement or ask here if you don't know about things like battery coding on these cars (I didn't). If for any reason you don't have the paper printed copy you can download a pdf copy from the following link. - https://manual.skoda-auto.com/004/en-com/Models For the seatbelt warning I don't quite understand what you mean but again I always recommend reading the Driver's Handbook (Operator's Manual) as that gives loads of information and with things like this that don't crop up often you could thinking it does something it doesn't. If you can say which seat and more info on what warning(s), I assume front if your expecting a noise and you go above a certain speed(? I forget the details now, I'd have to be in the car to find out or read the Driver's Handbook) then yes a constant low drain will deplete the battery eventually but a charged or new battery in good condition should take a while. But your battery might be 6 years old of use and abuse, it's not been fully recharged and the very hot and extreme weather we had won't have helped it or the charging system. Fully charging or changing the battery might even help with the seatbelt issue (no guarantees on that though). If you want to read them, as they used to say on Blue Peter, here's two I prepared earlier. - The following also gives different info related to your issues.

Unlike others who see the spec as a good thing, If I were in your position the alarm bells would be ringing. The Sat Nav doesn't work - we don't know if it ever worked in the UK since new. The engine oil wsn't changed, the pollen filter wasn't changed and when you say 'etc', are you saying there's other concerns too? I wouldn't be touching this car with a barge pole, ( or a didgeridoo which might be more appropriate ). Are we saying Skoda UK registered it to themselves then someone else? or was it registered to Skoda UK and the registered keeper wasn't the owner? Sounds to me like the previous driver didn't give a 5hit about it. I'd be rejecting it. Plus the car was sold by a Jaguar dealer? Someone else better informed than me might be able to answer but how easy is it to 'clock' a Kodiaq?
  38. Looking up the other European countries websites is good for knowing alternatives of current models, and the wheels catalogue includes recent models eg Octavia mk3 and Fabia mk3. If you want to know about older cars, probably best to look at used car website (their equivalent of auto trader), but it is going to be more of a trial and error exercise (unless someone knows links to archived brochures from abroad) https://www.carzone.ie/search?make=Skoda&model=Superb
  39. A very minor point but it used to be perfectly legal to remove a DPF but illegal to then drive the car on the road. Not sure but I think it's still the same today.
  40. Here is your VIN decoded (handy to know what was fitted) TMBKF73T5B9------.pdf And turns out my guesstimate was correct on the part number Either order up this part, or maybe send the loom over to @Breezy_Pete to see if he can fix your old one?

I have visited my dealer today, we checked the system and production date is set to 9 week of 2023, so if it goes according to schedule and i 'm luck lol, i should get the car by the end of march. What is really crazy. Car was ordered in august of 2021. So total delivery time will be approx 19 months.
  42. 600km road trip did not go as planned! I made it to my destination with several issues. It started when I hit a bump in the road and immediately lost all boost. Turning the car off and on brought it back. From that point, the car gradually restricted boost more and more as it ran, to the point where after 10-30 minutes of driving I had no boost and could only cruise at 3500rpm with no throttle. Hills were very tricky. And New Zealand is hilly. Stopping the engine and restarting gave all the boost back each time, until it went away again. Also I seem to have lost part of a transmission or engine mount. Then it started raining hard, and it seems a new feature is that my windscreen lets water in at both bottom corners. Above the wiring and relays at one side and the ecu at the other. Also the boot is leaking. So a very frustrating day. Another #gumbootrally almost attended! We did the rally in another car so all was not lost. https://i.imgur.com/Bl8cTPB.jpg https://i.imgur.com/eqXai9K.jpg https://i.imgur.com/EZdGvx1.jpg https://i.imgur.com/GO77bcM.jpg https://i.imgur.com/9lmlA2R.jpg https://i.imgur.com/MZwZpfD.jpg https://i.imgur.com/hWvLSeF.jpg https://i.imgur.com/HPiIbOr.jpg https://i.imgur.com/SoRX4Z4.jpg https://i.imgur.com/kh3gxzt.jpg https://i.imgur.com/rF8ifVQ.jpg https://i.imgur.com/8AcrMUi.jpg https://i.imgur.com/HLasApY.jpg https://i.imgur.com/b8JQOKL.jpg https://i.imgur.com/nKdw5CA.jpg https://i.imgur.com/aSvXz9L.jpg https://i.imgur.com/KwRkASl.jpg https://i.imgur.com/vfeElnu.jpg

Not all E10 / 95 ron Unleaded sold in the UK has as much as 10% bio. But then not all E5 Super Unleaded is the same around the UK.
  44. That was a baaaaaaaahd joke
  45. Are there maps for India available for the MIB3? If not then that would explain why sat nav is not available. Are there any Octavia 4 (or any MIB3 equipped cars) in India with the sat nav working?
  46. Hard to say not knowing the specs of L&K in India. Looking at the picture, you have either Columbus, which should have sat nav, or Bolero, which doesn't have it, but has all the needed hardware. If it's Columbus, it should work. If it's a Bolero, it shouldn't show sat nav in the menu, but at least in Europe you can buy it from the Skoda shop in the infotaiment. Check which infotaiment you have, and based on that you will know. If it's Columbus, go to the dealrship to fix it under warranty.
  47. I bought a bag of them off ebay for a few quid. I got them years ago and they still haven't run out.
  48. A common cause of noise is the trumpet over the input shaft that the release bearing slides on
