  1. Changed the wing mirror covers on my MY17 Superb to the facelift version, which has the BSD light on the cover. Got it from AliExpress. Good fit. Wasn't plug n play. Happy with the end result. More details about the installation here.
  2. He's not well thought of in the UK or here in Germany https://yougov.co.uk/politics/articles/51395-germans-and-britons-disapprove-of-musks-recent-interventions

I think it's the UK resident that matters for the 6 month rule. Maybe a visitor could but not resident.
  4. Hi All. Just wanted to update this thread for closure in case it helps anyone in future. I learned the two cable running from the fusebox (Black & Red) are actually both live feeds going to the left and right side of the car for various modules, so not much helo there. Further investigation revealed that disconnecting the power tailgate (Fuse 22 Luggage compartment door opening) did allow the car to go to sleep. I located the module in the boot behind the left interior trim, disconnecting the output side still gave me issues so i though I had a problem in the module itself (Control Unit for Trunk Lid, p/n 5E0 959 107A). I removed it and inspected inside and sure enough visibly identified a blown component on the board. New part ordered from Skoda for £225 (no good used ones available for a more reasonable cost). fitted and all working again perfectly - no more battery drain issues overnight.
  5. Many of the publications, particularly the papers, perhaps should be barred from calling themselves "newspapers" as the do not deliver news but political opinion mostly so should be called mouthpieces rather than "newspapers" ?
  6. Second attempt was finally successful at giving Gandalf's wing mirror covers a "facelift".... literally. I swapped the wing mirror covers for ones that have the blind spot detection light on the side of the cover. Normally the BSD light is on the outer edge of the wing mirror. On the facelift Superb, the BSD in on inside edge of the wing mirror cover. The wiring harness had to b made as it wasn't plug n play. The new wiring harness takes the power from original factory loom, and splits it two ways - one for the mirror BSD light the other for the cover BSD light. Happy with the end result. Wasn't difficult, but i had to do things nice n slow, n careful so as to not break anything. Wing Mirror covers with BSD light was from AliExpress. Link here. The grey colour is not an exact match. I'll getting this either painted in gloss black or wrapped in black vinyl, soon. The first version I bought last year, from China, was the wrong size. Turns out the Chinese mk3 Superb uses a different wing mirror design altogether!! That was promptly returned. This one fits good and is good quality. Wiring plug/connectors were also from AliExpress. Link here. Some pics of the progress.... The covers side by side New wiring plug connectors, same as the factory connectors. I moved the factory BSD wiring loom from the front to the back of the frame. New wiring harnesses for the wing mirror BSD light... New wing mirror cover in place. There is just enough room for it to clear the frame. New wiring harness - taking power from the existing factory plug, and splitting it for the wing mirror cover BSD and the wing mirror BSD. Setup complete... A short video of it in action....
  7. I honestly would not entertain running a 13A plug and socket at anything higher than 13A. Your brothers' setup could be getting a bit warm running 10A, not because it is running at full capacity but for a multitude of reasons, it could an old 13A plug top with slightly oxidised pins, could be a substandard plug, does the plug feel like it has any heft to it? There was a time when a lot of prewired leads were coming into the UK where the plug pins, unlike a reputable brand, i.e., MK or Crabtree or Ashley & Rock would be using decent grade solid brass pins, these imported ones were having hollow pins, so the pins would get warm because there was not enough metal there to carry the current, or if they got dropped, the pins were actually being bent very slightly bent after the impact, resulting in a poor mating surface between the plug pins and socket tubes that the plug is pushed into mar slightly out of its tolerance limits and hence why 10-amps makes it slightly warm.
  8. And you better start swimmin' or you'll sink like a stone.....
  9. I just do not like the person Musk is despite his company's technical success. I gather in the last few days he sacked several thousand workers at one of his car plant, America I presume. The individuals found out as they drove up to the plant and were then told if your pass does not work then you are fired. No way to treat human beings.
  10. Apparently 98% of charging is done at home, surprised it is that high, would gave guessed around 90%. That is not to say, or rather confirms, government should do a lot more about having very good public charging for those who do not have home chargers.
  11. Haha, very nice. Although true for me, I'm not such a snowflake to care what other people think of my transportation choice. Besides, Tesla and SpaceX are much more than Musk. There's a whole team of amazing engineers behind the brands to pursuit the original mission statements.

Just had wheels powder coated satin black, easier to repair. I think it looks good, what do you think?

SWMBO was a resident in the UK for twenty years and could bring her German registered LHD vehicles in for six months at a time. Out of the EU now so that would no longer be possible IIRC hence my 'I suspect'. Just remembered Albania's not a member yet either lol I took my UK registered Fabia to Germany but chopped it in for the Rapid before the six months were up whilst UK was still a member. Had to get a certificate of conformity from Skoda for the insurance before we left which came in handy when it came to selling it here.

Still is imported but just not put in to Free Ciculation as we call it. Could have got a ATA Carnet, did this for Mitsubishi Rally team when I was their Officer. Red Bull job keeps getting sent to my inbox but do not fancy that hassle. Any road up several ways it could have been "imported" in to the UK but it was seized under Traffic law it appears. Long time since I have worked for DoT. Quite possibly could have been seized under UK customs law as well but as long as it is off the roads of Manchester and the UK I am happy to see that. Makes a change for Albanians bringing a car in rather than taking them out if hearsay is true.
  15. The drop in EV sales was not only Tesla in Germany. The drop in VW Group EV,s sold in 2024 will be worth looking at, and in cars sales of non EV,s.
  16. We should feel sorry for Musk as he has to produce a new rocket to replace one that blew up 8 minutes in to the flight. Hope nobody or anybodies property was damaged by the shower of debris falling from the sky Wonder if Musk believes in karma, probably not. Hopefully Jeff Bezos rockets will do better. Amazon delivery to space it is looking like.
  17. Tesla sales here in Germany fell by 41% last year. People here aren't fans of the company's owner.
  18. Depending on if it is the latest v4 Superchargers. As a matter of ethics I only use TESLA as a last resort ie if there is no other alternative, irrespective of price. Apparently there have been some stickers available for TESLA owners to put in their cars which say. " I bought my TESLA before Musk went crazy", nice.

I like the green too, not quite a Skoda or Kawasaki green but quite good. Will research the LFP version against the pure lithium. Car makers tend to do down the cheaper model in terms of acceleration and maybe even range spec as they prefer buyers to go for mid range or higher spec models as their profit margins are bigger on those cars. 40 kwh LFP is still a respectable 9s to 100 kph and range quoted as about 200 miles I recall rather than 255 for the nominal 52 kwh version which starts at £27k rather than £22k. Finance at 5.5% apr not too bad but may drop hopefully as bank rates drop in UK and UK. Hope Vicky is right and the 5, with the 4 and Twingo as wingmen/persons, as well as the Dacia brand, do well and move the transition to EVs forward at better speed.
  20. Very nicely done! Why did you do it out of interest, purely styling? Or did you not want to buy new mirror glass at £500 per side! Update on me: Sorry that ive almost fallen off the face of the earth recently all! Currently in the process of buying a house so all attention has been diverted to that ❤️ The Skoda is still going strong except for a leaky water pump which I will update on as it is replaced.
  21. Bloggers and vloggers make up what ever they want. There are some that tell a story and if true somehow are not prepared to name and shame. Click bait. Some need to be paranoid because the tax man might be the one at their door. They will then claim dark forces at work.
  22. AFAIK OE VW bolts are made by Febi B. It doesn't really matter if you get OE or OEM (there IS a difference), but I'd personally spend an extra few quid and get ones that the dealer parts department hands to me. They are, after all, probably one of the most important parts on your car. As above, I wouldn't touch second hand bolts - especially not for something safety critical. If they've been over-torqued in the past (£20 says an old man has put his full weight on the tyre iron) then they could be weakened. It might not seem like a big deal when you have five of them, but they do fail. If one has a hairline crack and fails, the one next to it will have increased strain. If that one then fails, you've only got three holding the wheel on. If you're travelling in a heavy car on the motorway, then the unequal force can quickly mess those three remaining up, until you only have three wheels on your wagon. I've done a trip to the shop in a car with four bolts on one wheel as one stripped in the hub, and even though it was absolutely 100% fine, it still made me nervous! It is unlikely, but for the sake of £15 vs £50, why risk it?
  23. I was making the point about the modules having to be awake to monitor the inputs/events/activity that creates the audible warnings plus all the systems that could still be operated by the occupant. You cant have smart vehicles making all the decisions for you (example you are sitting in the car when its shunted from behind and rolls down an embankment, should the airbags deploy or not?) if the decision making devices and the neural network connecting them is not operational and drawing current.
  24. He surely can't get away with that can he?
  25. There should be a switch on the roof consul for turning rear lights on/ off.

As I understand the situation, the car was seized as it had no valid insurance cover for the UK. Whether that was down to the policy as written or because the cover was not valid for a vehicle that was not approved for use in the UK has not yet been clarified.
  27. I think my artificial foot / leg will catch on the sill as i lift my foot in as it does on many cars with body kits or just projecting sills. And as well as that you get dirty trousers legs. Style & Design over function is a PITY or for some shins. ............. If that is not an issue, or the controls are not hopeless with a right hand drive and seating is comfy then the fact it can have a towbar for a bike rack suits me perfectly.
  28. You could also look at the factory reverse camera - fuse 18 in the box. Not sure how viable it will be but might be worth looking at if you wanted to run it completely separate from the fuse box. Otherwise yes, just splice into the reverse light cable.
  29. So if I unplug it, I am good to drive around as normal until the new part arrives?
  30. @Graham ButcherThings are Sh!t enough, i have 2 failed to start and started charging this morning at £5 for each of these have resulted in me getting Invoices & Receipts from CPS. But not a Invoice / Reciept for the charge i did get of £5.70 The guy started the Charger remotely, i asked how this was available after 5 years of them saying these chargers were not available remotely. Amazing new tech, on crap old equipment. The call handler said Contact South Ayrshire Council, i told him they did a press release saying Contact CPS ASAP. I told him you can not keep taking VAT on a Service or product not provided. Anyway that is me onto them next week. But i am still quids up on the charging sessions that have not been billed to me.
  31. Skoda recommend changing the alarm every seven years. I suspect yours has a leak from the internal alkaine battery on the printed circuit board causing corrosion on the board. When you disconnected the main battery overnight, the damaged internal battery was not able to power the alarm but as soon as you reconnected the alarm unit, it would see a change and set off the alarm sounder. I think you hold the record for alarm life at 14 years. Take a look at the sticky post on alarms at the start of this forum.
  32. That is part of the problem, news medias journalists are following official lines / narratives most of the time, bloggers and loggers are free to their own thing, others are paid to say certain things.
  33. Egypt. I was asking if anyone had any previous exp dealing with this but will check my local shops and update the thread.
  34. Sold that car years ago it had issues because the mechanic used wrong trans oil. Dsg is very jerky in traffic and needs a clutch pack which is very expensive in my country so was wondering if its possible
  35. Still a registration and sale which will turn up probably as a great lease deal. BT bought a job lot of 3500 EV vans i gather late last year.

It is definitely a misprint. I saw a Cybertruck for sale with very similar number on Autotrader about 2 weeks ago. The number is missing a 1 in front of the 48K.
  37. I think that's been happening regardless @Ootohere. I'm on hardwire broadband and I have had the odd double/treble post. A look at an EV breaker's yard. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgpw7DlC5ec
  38. Came across this on YouTube a 2025 Fabia update which looks fantastic, might want to hold off for this?
  39. We're all Skoda brothers and sisters. Worse things in life than this sort of thing - let's try and focus on getting the lights sorted chaps 👍
  40. Much of that sounds like dealer bull**** to drum up some work. Discs... Just take it for a run and do a few hard emergency stops from higher speeds when appropriate to clean up the discs. Shocks... Misting is not the same as leaking. Some light misting is normal. Bush... There's no play in it so it should be fine for a good while yet.
  41. Over my two SEL's I have endured 7 years of picnic tables. Never used once, except by grandchildren trying to destroy them ( we are governed by the rules of "gentle parenting" 😖 ). They are more robust that I expected!
  42. Morning Guy...........................Had the oil light come on the Skoda Karoq 1.5 petrol yesterday read most of the thread to get the fact its normal "apparently" for this engine to throw the light on after only covering 11,500 miles from new 7 months ago. I went to the local carparts this morning and the lad didnt need to look up what kind of oil it needed just reeled it off to one of the other lads and said yes thats the norm now for these engines. Had a Mazda 5 before this for 9 years never had to put oil in from one year to the next ,up until the last year after 180,000 miles. Anyway if it happens to you its normal .

Oh, this guy is still going? Deliberate provocation several days later followed by “this is boring now”… It’s such a shame this forum doesn’t have a ‘vote to kick’ function.
  45. P2099 that is underboost. That could be to do with the actuator, or the turbo itself, wastegate or a boost leak in pipework..... I would say it is almost certainly not related to the temp gauge fluctuating If you monitor coolant temp with diagnostics the gauge does not track actual temps very well anyway, it kind of averages out all temps between about 80C and 105C and calls it 90C.
  46. Red is the permenent live feed to the interior, black is the ignition switched feed to the interior. And in terms of your diagnosis so far - TOP TIER. Your methods with the amp clamp are exactly what should be done and you are on track to find the cause. Most people start pulling fuses but that hasnt been an option for the last 15 years with canbus modules - yet people still do. You may have a damaged connection in the door so id be disconnecting both door modules and monitoring the current draw again, if it doesnt change you may have damaged wires in the door jam partially shorting out.
