Doubt the difference bewteen 94 and 91 would make any real difference but the increased side wall will help. 205/55/16 against 225/45/17 side wall difference is about 3/4" more. I run 205/55/16 on my mk2. Mid range GT radial FE2 94V and its not bad plus good tyres in dry and wet. Son has 15" GT radial all season on his fabia and again good tyre in dry and wet Alasdair

The UK Government with the loudest voice (Sir Ian) AKA Sir Iain Duncan Smith is so very worried about China that they got their nickers in a twist about China and France building the new Nuclear in the UK. This government is so concerned over security and China that they do not want a Company fabricating wind turbines in a Yard in Scotland. No issues with how many Oil licences that a Chinese business has for oil and gas extraction in the North Sea because the is in partnership with Sir Jim Ratcliffe's company. (China National Offshore Oil Corporation / CNOOC) No issue with how many ports / terminals Chinese companies own (3), or business,s or allowing a huge Embassy to be built in London. This is a very very strange state of affairs in the UK. So wind turbines could spy on shipping. China has satellites............. & Oil fields and structures in the UK,s North Sea. & already many Chinese built wind turbines.

I replaced my 2 front tyres this month, and was also a bit surprised to find them worn down to the threads on the inside edges 😬 They were Goodyear Turanza T005 which I’ve been quite happy with, so replaced them with exactly the same and had the tracking done at the same time. The garage said they’d found the tracking “only slightly” out. The fact they were so worn down on the inside came as a bit of a surprise as I’d been checking the tread depth regularly…will keep a closer eye on the inside edges in future. Mine are mostly motorway miles and I usually have them at 2.2 bar. I might try them at 2.5 which I think is listed as the “fully loaded” pressure.

I own a 20 plate 1.5tsi Octavia SEL dsg estate, it's my 3rd Octavia. I bought it a year ago, it came with 17s, as standard. I sourced 4 decent used late MK 3 facelift Octavia alloy wheels, fitted those for comfort. I've also fitted 4 all season tyres onto them, too. I see a few positives from this, tyre choice is larger & tyres are cheaper, than the previous 17s. You would also gain on fuel economy, marginally, too. Also comfort levels are marginally better, compared to running with 17s. You will notice a bit of a difference with comfort levels, hitting potholes, but it's not a massive difference, more of a subtle change. I've done this on few other cars, previously, down graded their wheels to gain more comfort. Bit more pothole & kerb resilience, too. I've also stuck with the 91 load ratings for 16s wheels from factory for my car. I'd never fit higher load ratings if not required. I prefer higher spec trims, with lower spec wheels, mainly for comfort, not vanity. I've also informed my insurance, there was no extra charge to my premiums.

What makes you think the discs need replacing?

4x4 Sportlines have 45 profile tyres on 29 inch rims and multilink rear suspension (similar if not identical to Passat, Golf and others) 2wd have torsion beam axle - this is a big factor in ride comfort. Try and get a late 73 plate which will still have warranty and then purchase All-in-one plan. I m just about to do that for my Karoq 2.0 TSI 4x4 Sportline. Cost is £959, cost of 2 yrs extended warranty is £624 - thus allinone 2 services and 2 mots is £335, so that’s £168 per service and mot- 2 years roadside is also included - no brainer. Can get extra 4 years warranty, I have checked DSG, infotainment screen, dash screen and matrix headlight units are all covered if they fail.

O/S/F N/S/F O/S/R N/S/R But don't loos any sleep over it. FOS = found overly stiff ?

Google tells me it was dropped as standard on MY24 cars, where it became a circa £900 option. So if it's something you want, carefully check the spec of late '23 cars when the change would have been made.

There is so many strange things that the UK Government & politicians think is acceptable and then others that they are dead against.

We always have the power and now out of the EU. EU levies extra 35% on Chinese EVs, but not hybrids so the Chinese do even more on hybrids. UK chooses not to. Protectionism tends to harm all but the EU countervailibg duties on EVs, extra 35% on SAIC ie MG vehicles !!! Less on BYDs. When UK was in EU there were hundreds of Anti Dumping now there are only a few tens. UK continues to prioritise finance and specialised industries ie military, pharma, luxury cars, sports etc. Difficult to change when China has such a lead in mass production and cheap energy.

I think a test drive in both SEL and Sportline models is a good idea. Personally I found the ride quality on the SEL variant better than the Sportline so opted for that when I changed my car.

When my car did this it was due to water condensation in the car and was cleared by drying out the interior. Yours looks more like the condensation may have been there for some time and has corroded a connection, possibly the connections to the cluster.

Certainly not a dealer only job. Straightforward enough for a relatively competent DIY’er. Gaz

@Evolution13, just maybe they should have thought a bit more seriously about letting most of the UK, production jobs leave these shores for China years ago in the pursuit of even greater profits. By allowing that to happen they just handed the vice grip that a foreign power could if they so wished, use against us.

In my experience, even running the tyres at 'Eco' pressures does not result in a 'harsh ride' on either the Octavia or Fabia - on 16" wheels.

Hi @dan245 I had a Octavia vRS CR DSG for 13 years. Loved the car and covered 139k mostly trouble free miles in it. April '25 I changed it for a '23 (73 plate) Karoq 2.0 tsi Sport line. I also tow a caravan with both. What I liked about the Octavia: Looks good 😊 Fuel consumption. Solo 50+, towing 30 Boot size Comfortable seats How does the Karoq compare: It's a mid sized SUV, personally I prefer the look of the Octavia hatch Fuel consumption whilst not as good solo it's only 1 or 2 mpg less when towing. The cheaper unleaded offsets this. The boot on the Karoq is easier to load (I have a spare wheel so a false floor) but it is smaller than the Octavia. Seats are more comfortable than the Octavia The ride I find is similar between the two although I don't have DCC. Even with the 45 profile tyres it's ok. As for towing, it's so much better. I had a tow trust detachable tow bar fitted along with the dedicated electrics by a local mobile fitter. Works as it should. Just check the vin to make sure it can be coded. Agree about the matrix headlights. Never been flashed but try not to think about replacing. Hope this helps

One of the biggest disadvantages in the Sportline is the ridiculous 40 profile tyres fitted to the 19" wheels. The wheels are also 8J rather than the 7J in the rest of the range, so the standard 215 tyres give little protection to the rims over potholes & when parking. I have a SEL Edition that came with 18/50 & I dropped those to 17/55. You're already aware of the issues with the sunroof & while the dancing headlights sound great, it's something else to go wrong as the car ages. We're already seeing instances of LED indicator failures requiring a whole headlight replacement at over £1k. If boot space is a premium requirement, maybe look at an SEL with Varioflex seats. They can be flipped forward or removed completely. Skoda dropped them as standard but I can't remember when. Whatever you go for, buying from an authorised dealer seems essential for the warranty, as does extending it as soon as it expires. Door locks, shock absorbers, electric boot struts & software issues all seem common.

Everything has been back to normal for a few weeks now, I don't know if it was the car or the android auto. Skoda said there is nothing wrong with the audio system. I hope it continues to work..

This evenings task was to get out the cardboard spray booth again. This time painting parking sensors for the front sensor retrofit project. I used the punch for the bumper to cut holes in a small cardboard box and taped them in place as an easier way of masking up the sensors. The loom has also arrived but is missing the 18 pin plug and is for LHD so some wires also need extending.

Good thinking... On the rear of my Fabia's dipstick's yellow plastic handle is a QR code and the Part Number 05C115611H Searching online using that Part Number retrieves plenty of adverts for dipsticks for recent VW Group cars (not just Skoda Fabia Mk4s) that have the 1.0litre TSI motor. I've looked at a few adverts that carry photos, but, although they all resemble my Fabia's dipstick (yellow angled handle, black flat steel 'blade' and with a bent section that plainly relates to oil-level measurement) I can't get sufficient resolution on that section to confirm if any of the advertised dipsticks lack the 'dotted' marking. As it's fairly easy to do, it would be worth @fabiamk4man checking the Part Number on his car's dipstick.

I'm a newbie Superb owner and felt my tailgate struts are not as efficient as they might be. Having entered Make, Model and Engine size as well as registration into both the AUTODOC site and app, I was presented with a long list of struts, all of which, I was informed, were suitable for the car. (You can see where this is going!). Ordered 2 x Stabilus 301171's which, on arrival, clearly did NOT fit. Challenged Autodoc who said I should have checked the VIN first with them by email - there is no guidance evident to do this and why would you, given the info they had and their site's confirmation of suitability. The upshot is that they reject any responsibility, offering to refund £44 cost but NOT my £9 postage. In addition I am required to spend £25 to return the items to Germany. When I gave them the VIN they advised they don't stock suitable struts as they are factory issue only - so why list umpteen struts as suitable? You'll see from the attached that my VIN details are actually held on the site in the second image and still the recommendations stand. My post is made purely as a warning if you are looking for Superb III struts on this site, do NOT take anything at face value. Highly UN-recommended. Apologies if this is in the wrong section or should not even be raised - I'll understand if Admin removes.

What he said ^ Everything has been superseded by G12 Evo although, to be fair, I would personally just use what the car left the factory with, unless it’s a G13 car. If you Google it, there is a chart for mixing that shows what you can, and can’t, mix together.

A significant disadvantage of autodoc and its other companies masquerading as UK based with .co.uk addresses. Fine when the right parts are offered and delivered, PITA when not. Part number is very likely to be printed on your current struts. Use that - exactly, suffixes and all - to attempt to find aftermarket matches, autodoc may also be wrong about non-availability.

Just in case anyone is interested. I took my key to my local Timpsoms, they wanted £220. Went to a local locksmiths, who put me in touch with a local auto tech place, where they cut a new key, provided a new case with my “inners” inside it, for £50. So quite happy with that.

Guess what I’ll be thinking in 78 miles time… 😂

There is no component protection. You can change them in the right order No contact on. Undo the screws. Remove fuse 30 and 46. Change the screens. Put it in place and put the fuses back. Make contact. If it's all normal screens starts up no problems. Screws back in place ready to go. All is to read and see in the pictures in this forum. It's simpel but don't forget the fuses Before I forget screen must be H49 hardware. 44 to 47 had the same problems

I think at my age the sporty years have passed me by. So comfort is the order of the day.

If 85% of solar panels are made in China and they are much cheaper it is hard to do anything else. Again the UK could add extra import duties but would we be shooting ourselves in the foot when solar panels are a key to cheaper electricity which benefits so many businesses and domestic economies.
