  1. Theyre back from having a cuppa 👍 And a chute deployed
  2. We hung around and were fortunate to see a Spitfire, Hurricane and Dakota 1470330~2.mp4
  3. PROBLEM SOLVED Firstly, thanks to the people who offered advice for this problem especially (again) Breezy Pete. The post is a bit old now but I think it's best to inform others of the solution...... The non running fans were caused by the failure of the air con. I mulled over this problem and after Breezy Pete's suggestion started checking out the air con and yes there was no pressure whatsoever in the air con system. This of course led to the inevitable replacement of the condenser. I have now completed this task but what a pain in the neck this job really, really was. Every single torx and multi spline bolt fought me every step of the way (2005, so 21 yrs old etc.). It made what should have been a reasonable simple job into the most frustrating and annoying job on a car I can remember..... If I ever meet the guy who invented torx, xzn fixings.....well, I hope I don't....loool. So, condenser replaced (eventually), the air con system re-gassed and magically the cooling fans are now both operating so it was nothing to do with the fan controller module.. I have still yet to see the engine cooling fan operate on its own but I've come to the conclusion that the engine just doesn't heat enough to trip the fan (the coolant radiator is reasonably recent) but I've noticed already that driving around with the air con operating the engine temp just takes that little bit longer to reach normal operating temperature obviously the fans are now operating. So, once again thanks to all who read and offered solutions and I hope my experience helps others. Regards Tom
  4. Local garage changed my folks Fabia 1.9tdi from variable to fixed as they were only doing 4-5k a year. Mechanic used to service just before MOT and while he was at it checked car over for MOT. He reckoned that high mileage per year go variable but low mileage per year go fixed plus its getting an annual check over as well as a service. Alasdair
  5. Don’t do it!! How could you swap out a Yeti for an EV? Keep it till it falls apart. SWMBO has had her Octy VRs diesel since 2012 and it’s done over 140,000 miles with nothing major having been replaced. Kind of shows how reliable the older models are. I had 3 Yetis over the years nd wish I had never got rid of the last one.

Might be a failing dpf pressure sensor or the ash content is very high. Might be worth getting a quick vcds scan to see if there any stored and check ash level at same time. My octavia does the same but only getting short runs these days. When it happens I try and give it a decent long run. Alasdair
  7. "and the winner is" ... NascarMike's toothbrush suggestion. 👏 It's a 'soft cleaning' toothbrush with very gentle bristles, picked up for about £1 from my local supermarket. Warming the handle with a hairdryer or heat gun is enough to soften the plastic so that it can be bent around to the right shape. I needed to make left- and right-hand versions because there is not enough room to reach across behind the spokes from just one side... Just keep them away from your teeth after use I also picked up a 'turkey baster' to suck most of the water out of the gutter after rinsing the wheels. It's much more efficient that using microfibre towels alone.
  8. Yep ! Pain in the derrière doesn’t come close. I console myself with the thought that 99.9% of the population will just go ‘ooh, nice clean car ‘ It’s only the saddo’s like us that know ( or notice ) Don’t worry too much, if you’re anything like me, the sleepless nights spent festering over the gunge filled trough behind your wheels will ease after the first six months of ownership.
  9. At Coningsby Think they've knocked off for lunch!
  10. I’ll check later when it’s a bit darker 👍
  11. I have emailed Febi to make them aware of this issue but for completeness here is the link to the Febi part that is not compatible with 5K0 907 659. https://partsfinder.bilsteingroup.com/en/article/febi/194829
  12. You might consider linking Febi to this thread as helpful feedback for them?
  13. oh sorry dumb question the check engine light. From memory it goes off after starting, & no diagnosed fault codes show
  14. I have now purchased a 5K0 part albeit second hand and it actually does output the desired PWM signal and has subsequently caused the fault to be cleared. So the issue was that Febi and the other seller were falsely advertising their part as compatible with 5K0 907659/1K0 907659. They are not. I am quite disappointed with Febi as I used to consider them a trustworth company. Thanks to @Breezy_Pete for persauding me to try the OEM part.
  15. Just found the service record. Brake fluid was marked as done as “additional work carried out” at its service a year ago just before 15k. 👍🏻
  16. It’s an ex-mobility on 20k miles so fully serviced. In fact it was serviced twice in the two months before I got it as the dealer wanted to make sure they weren’t relying on someone else’s previous service. I was given a printout of the previous services when I got it, but they seemed a brief overview, I shall request a detailed report of what was done. But clearly lots to think about.
  17. Makes sense, thanks. I’ve still to decide if after my 1 year used car warranty I take out the additional 2 year service plan/warranty, when I believe they’d set it to fixed anyway. Sounds expensive but takes any worry away. In the past I’ve always serviced at a local mechanic as soon as the initial warranty runs out but I worry these newer cars are less easily fixed outside the dealer network with all the fancy features.
  18. Just another of Volkswagen Groups 'Lost in translation'. TDI,s oil requirement / specification is the same regardless of getting a Fixed or Variable oil & filter service regime. 'Long Life Oil'. VW504 00 / 507 00, then later for some VW508 00 / 509 00.
  19. I think that generally the consensus is to run with fixed servicing periods, yes you'll probably get more miles/£ (of your service costs) by running with flexible - but other wear and tear items might need extra cash in an unpredictable way. Flexible servicing usually only works for new cars that get high usage - then moved on after a couple of years.
  20. Good. Always best to mention such highly relevant details.
  21. I did have a look up there yesterday there are some signs of rust but it didn’t look too bad albeit does need some tlc I’ll be sure to have a good luck when I have a full day to get started and take things apart.
  22. Ah. I replaced them last year.
  23. What helps is making a video where both an issue and VIN are visible. This is the kind of evidence they cannot reject. I learned it from the workshop when I had faulty infotainment, they were making such videos themselves to present to Skoda as evidence.
  24. Suit yourself, but your spark plugs may never have been looked at in the last 4 years and are a very basic 'car maintenance 101' item.

NEVER EVER use standard bolts with spacers!! always get longer bolts, to compensate for the spacer thickness. also, make sure u get hub-centric spacers if ur going to get spacers.
  26. What faults are shown when a diagnostic tablet / VCDS is plugged into your car?
  27. Bringing this thread back, as I've done quite a bit of experimenting with the car's coding. It turns out that changing only the SIA max value for the oil service and the FIX max value for the inspection with poor quality oil set did the trick and allowed me to set the service interval to 10,000 km. Everything else is set to 15k.
  28. Pretty colourful skies yesterday..... And tonight's moonlight.............
  29. Good luck - always wanted to try one of these. Will be very interested to see your results👍
  30. Check the spark plugs as a first step.
  31. Okay thanks I’ll keep an eye on that. I guess I’ll have to get my hands dirty and look under the bonnet! I might even enjoy it. I’m sure this has been discussed dozens of time here before, but mine is set to variable time and distance servicing. We live in the country and when we go out we generally drive without any real traffic for maybe 30 to 60 minutes at normal country road speeds. Is there a general consensus re variable v fixed service intervals?
  32. Increased engine oil level on a TSI could possibly be a symptom of one or more leaking fuel injectors - or coolant leak! Oil level should be checked as recommended and, if level has in fact increased, should be tested for possible contaminants.
  33. Infotainment replaced on September 11th. So far so good. No random problem ever since, but I'll keep it under surveillance. Very long journey with the Skoda dealership and very dissapointing experience. Like I said, if I'll ever buy another car it won't be anything from the VAG group. Good luck to anyone still facing issues. Rooting for you, guys🙏
  34. @OrvilleTheDuck Had it increased? Did you not remove oil? "reduce oil level'" Too much oi. "Reduced oil level" not enough!!! Does your car have a Dip Stick? Did you dip the oil when you first got the warning. As the Manual tells you to. @ Normal Operating Temperature, parked on the flat after a few minutes? Then compare that to Once the engine and oil had cooled to ambient temperature?
  35. Update on this. Rear donk solved. Bottom droplink bolt on the passenger side wasn't tight (the one bottom right of the 2nd pic). Jacked up the hub so all under load and torqued it up properly. Checked the other side which was ok. As I jacked the hub up and compressed the spring, there was the donk sound but I tried it a couple of times and couldn't see what was moving to make the sound. Did the same after the work was done and silent. Test drive was silent too. Spring looked fine sat in the cup and looked fine under compression so not sure what was up. One thing sorted. Work booked for end of next week - helicoil my dogbone mess, front arb switched to H&R, front topmounts, check the wheel speed sensors then 4wa and hopefully that's it...
  36. Hi, I will make ebay auction for it asap and let you know. that touch panel was made by me. works great, already repaired 50 pieces of that radio in octavia 4. The problem is gone.
  37. I like the black trim more, but never had one on a car. Not sure is this an option while purchasing? I know that the chrome one is defective on many non-FL Superbs - it's peeling off on the rear doors, but not on the front ones. There are many Superbs like that and Skoda claims it's from washing the car with incorrect products. Shame on those people washing only half of their cars

@Marci1229 just 2 weeks ago i have replaced speakers in my O4 and made sound deadening of the doors. Highly recommended. Difference is night and day. I went with Focal IS VW 165 speakers in the front and IS VW 155 in the back.
