  1. You could try to claim under the Skoda 10 year anti corrosion warranty and see how far you get.
  2. If the dealer has a firmware update - which they will do - it may fix the instability of Android Auto. You might get lucky with the Skoda update portal but generally maps are free and available but device updates never are. If it service effecting then Skoda should fix it under a warranty claim.
  3. I wouldn't drive it too far - use the Skoda breakdown service (there should be a sticker above the driver's door for their number - 0800 526 625) and get the car to the garage.
  4. Well, you might have a short on the blower motor - they can fail....you could have to be unlucky to get a short on one of those. You are going to have start isolating circuits (carefully) to identify which circuit is pulling a lot of current. You might also have a compressor failing (which will take a lot of current). When was the last time the HVAC system was serviced (should be every 3 years). The RAC reading looks about normal. You can find local people with VCDS for reading info from the car - or you can go and purchase an ODBEleven for diagnostic support.
  5. Several things to check: 1) Check the high pressure fuel lines - especially around Cylinder 4. They can occassionally burst. If you have been very unlucky, Cylinder 4's Glow Plug has either detached itself or broken loose and is allow high pressure fuel to escape (which considering the spray nature of the photos - looks a good possibility). 2) The oil seal around the crank take off for the serpinetine pulley may have burst / possible crank-case seal failure. Pray this isn't the case, because that could be an engine out job. 3) Make sure there isn't a leak around the fuel filter - get it changed and check all of the pipes.
  6. Okay - you have a Columbus system! NICE! If you don't have a Canton sound system, I can recommend enabling up Skoda Surround and Virtual Base. You will know if you have a Canton system by the Canton logo on the door speakers. If you have Canton, you cannot improve the sound any further - if you don't and have normal speakers - then follow this: Your firmware is slightly old but not disasterous. Dealer time and ask them for version P4200 or above. You also need to go to https://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/ and type in your VIN number - and download the latest maps for your MIB system - your maps are from 2018. You can also download the later VW group maps from the Columbus forum:
  7. I recommend you go and visit a seat upholstery place. Ideally the steering wheel has to come off, then it is new perforated leather to be out on the wheel. Alternatively, a new steering wheel can be purchased from your Skoda dealer (and coded in for the buttons).
  8. It sounds like you have a direct short on a component in the car. Just wanted to make sure you haven't added in a dash cam and wired it to permanent live by accident or something daffy like that. We need a scan of your car to help. Can you get someone with VCDS or ODBEleven to perform a scan on your car and post it up here pls. Can you also take a short video of the noise pls?
  9. Almost there....at the top of the screen, there is also another button marked Versions... could you press that and take a photo of that screen for us pls?
  10. Might I suggest that you get a smart battery tester and test the cranking strength of the battery. If you go to a VW/Skoda dealership, they will use a VAG6161 unit to test the battery. I suspect your EFM battery is dying.
  11. @zeffania Hello there; glad the maps have updated. Firstly, welcome back to the Octavia fold.... You won't find any firmware updates for the MIB system on the Skoda updateportal - its a sad annoying fact that we've had to do our own legwork on this one. If you send us a screenshot for the info I've requested above, then you can hopefully download the update and get your system up to spec (because Android Auto is grumpy in anything less than 0478 firmware). Re: Battery. The MK3.5's (BTW, love the colour) need their battery topped up regularly to keep the CANBUS network happy. If you aren't doing many miles at the moment, can I recommend the following is purchased: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/233409015194 This is a 12V solar panel charger that connects into the ODBC port under your right leg on the driver's side. This will keep the battery nicely charged up when not in use. There are also many mods that can be done to improve your car - I also suggest that you purchase a copy of ODBEleven which will allow you to enable the wonderful world of mod'ing and it will also enable you to read any error logs from the car.
  12. No - they aren't for the use of the roof bars. Those holes are actually used in the factory for one job - and that is carrying the empty bodyshell from one part of the workshop to another whilst the robots build the car up. I know this as I've been over to Mlada Boleslav and seen it with my own eyes!
  13. @zeffania How you getting on with Android Auto? If you press and HOLD the Menu button, go to Version/Software/Firmware and Software Version - post that screen on here. Upgrades [to make Android Auto work] are probably available. One of your photos showed no maps - do you have a maps card for your Amunsden?
  14. The VAG clutches for the petrol TSI engines are not good. On my previous Red VRS, we had to get the clutch replaced (bite too high and slipping) and the car had only done 32k miles. I suspect the clutches for the 230 were never designed for the additional power, so any spirited starts or rapid stop/starting will cause them to slip. Clutch upgrades seem to be a normal thing.
  15. is your car a MK3 or a MK4 Octavia (2020 being a changeover year)
  16. There is actually not a lot of extra new technical goodies on a MK4 - that you canny find on a MK3....the biggest seller was meant to be the all-singing-all-dancing MIB3 system.....we know how that one's working out!
  17. Possibility of a disc brake sticking to the caliper?
  18. Firstly, I think it is worth reading up on Skoda Connect and what it does. https://www.skoda-auto.com/connectivity/connect There are two parts to Skoda Connect - Infortainment Online (which is route planning, live traffic updtes, news, weather, petrol stations etc) and the other half is Care Connect. You will generally know if you have Care Connect if you have an SOS button above your head. This is the bit that does remote locking/unlocking and reporting of your car's status to the Skoda garage. At the moment, Skoda Connect have a special offer on to "try" their services - obviously people realising that the service can be replicated via Android Auto or Apple Carplay (and loosing money to those services). Otherwise you have to pay for the services in question....sorry.
  19. It actually quite easy - what @ords means I think is that instead of a whole map, you can downline sections of a map from which are smaller capacity size wise and should fit onto a smaller capacity SD Card (assuming it is 8GB in size). For example, ECE1 maps generally show only UK, France, Spain and Ireland.
  20. You can get larger capacity 16G MIB1 compliant cards here on the forum. There is a user who is selling them....why not have a look in the classifieds.
  21. Yes - and its easy to fix for all Octavias that throw that fault. The veins actuator (which are usually located behind the turbo) - are stuck. If you tickle the accellator, the actuator itself gets stuck in the open/closed position. For ref: http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/000175 To deal with it - switch off engine - find the actuator - get a can of WD40 (other spray lubricants are available) and work the actuator vein by hand until it is running nice and free. Probably caused by carbon build up around the actuator mechanism.
