  1. One thing I am aware of is that VAG cars are VERY particular about their oil. It should be proper 504/507 grade oil and ideally VW / Skoda Longlife FE3 oil. Who serviced the car? Was it a Skoda dealer? Oil must be changed every 10k miles. Tell us what the noise dampener you fitted....is this the approved noise reduction material for under the bonnet from Skoda (petrols don't usually get these as standard). Now to the sensor - we need a VCDS scan or similar to understand what the fault is. What you are experiencing here sounds like an intermittent sensor going open-circuit. It will be either the sensor failing or a fault with the wiring. This is not the fault of the car - and it doesn't reflect the build quality. My experience is that it is all about the maintenance with Skoda cars. I bet that if you get that sensor replaced, it will be as good as gold. I've found that lots of folk (previous owners) especially on PCP don't maintain their vehicle properly, so gremlins will occur. We've all had Skoda Gremlins.....but please stick with it, because once faults are fixed, they are lovely cars to drive.
  2. @Baxlin - the key part of Active Cruise Control is that you will need to drive in a more defensive way. ACC is good, but takes some getting use to . I am assuming that as you are in West Hertfordshire, then it is Bonkers Central in terms of traffic most of the time. ACC is doing its job properly - its stopping a head-on and the car behind was stupid enough to be following you too closely. Yes, you can adjust your speed as appropriate and yes you can reduce the braking distance via ACC, but as @langers2ksays - if you drive into the back of the car in front and it was determined you were driving too close, its a charge of driving without due care or attention.
  3. its not good - I can just about see that damage. The only way that you will be able to see the level of oil - is if it is replaced. I'm making the assumption that the selling garage is not a VAG specialist or Skoda garage, but could be wrong. First - now you have identified it, get a quote for a repair. You need this when you go back to the selling dealership in terms of a negociation on getting them to fix it (unless they are willing to fix the issue for free). If you have financed the car, then you need to let the finance company know that in essence you have purchased a pup. There is local trading standards if you don't get any joy.
  4. Really depends on your budget. I would go for a good branded oil - such as Castrol/Shell or even Skoda's own oil. Typically prices are between £50 to £70 for 5 litres of oil (although I notice that EuroCarParts are doing 70% off this weekend), might I also recommend you go and visit theskodashop.co.uk if you are planning to do a service yourself - £135 get your a major service kit for your VRS Petrol. https://www.theskodashop.co.uk/products/skoda-service-major-service?_pos=2&_sid=87487b8f5&_ss=r
  5. You know what. I get what the OP has to say. I love the TDI's and recently did exactly what the OP wants to do. If you are doing high miles thn the TDI is great. It's personal opinion. I don't get the TSI engines. They are quick but terribly thirsty. MK3 FL are holding their prices in a crazy way. Try and do any sales privately as dealers are asking silly prices.
  6. Used to be. It's now G12++ or G12evo
  7. Yes and no. Skoda tend to change their annual 'shutdown'. I've heard it being in July, July or August, so it depends on a number of factors, such as stock and parts availability.
  8. Yes. Simple....an oil that meet VW504/507 specifications. Known within Skoda circles as Longlife 3 FE oil. 0W30 is a good oil to work with but it is all to do with the additives in the oil.
  9. 1) try tuning in and resaving the stations. Icons should reappear. 2) Go to https://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/ And update your icons from there (download them and follow instructions)
  10. Did you buy an NTSC camera or PAL camera. What you are showing there is a PAL invertion picture which is a problem. The cameras must be NTSC. PAL and NTSC are closely related as a standard but PAL is superior due to a secondary colour phasing check. If an NTSC calibrated system sees a PAL signal, it interprets it as brightness or contrast. The long and short of it is....your reversing camera images will look odd.
  11. @SunsetZed somebody is taking you to the cleaners. The only time a car will need radar alignment is for cars with Active Cruise Control or ACC. They are taking the ****. Find a different dealer. I recommend finding somebody with a Hunter 4 wheel alignment setup WITH THE SKODA ALIGNMENT PROFILES. Skoda UK send out specific profiles for the Hunter System and it means 100% alignment especially for the VRS's which may not align up properly.
  12. Not odd at all. Skoda and VAG always build cars for the following year they will be sold in. E.g. MY15 cars are built in 2014. Now what could have happened here is that due to popular demand of the MK3's at this time, Skoda UK might have asked for the MY15 model to be released from Czechia in 2014. This meant that certain models were put to market earlier than expected. Remember that an MY starts usually in September the previous year and goes onto August the following year. It's all very misleading and you will only find out this when you go and visit the factory in Mladá Boleslav (Guess who's been ROFL).
  13. (we are going massively off-topic here folks) - you pay for the infortainment subscription for news/sport/information and latest traffic info. VAG outsource this service to a different service provider, so they have to cover their costs.
  14. If you have paid for an hours subscription, go to "Vehicle Specification Information" and type in your VIN number, then the car information will be displayed in the same dropdown menu.
  15. @VRSbaz thanks for the posting. if you go to Skoda Erwin and take out an hour's subscription (about 7 Euros), you can get all the information on your car from there.
  16. If you can find one; a Scout TDI 184 4x4 would be a good bet for luggage, towing and general ability. Have a look at these on Autotrader. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-search?sort=relevance&make=SKODA&model=OCTAVIA&aggregatedTrim=Scout&include-delivery-option=on&year-from=2018&max-engine-power=200
  17. Yes, a TD150 will be reasonable, but if there is a manual TD184/190 out there, then definitely go for that. A braked towing - typically can be anywhere from 1800 to 2000kgs top weight, so 1200kgs plus luggage and passengers is about capacity. Make sure you blow up the tyres and ideally use a proper Skoda towbar if you can afford that. http://www.towingcapacity.co.uk/car-make-model/skoda/skoda-octavia/
  18. Oh sorry. All all VAG group cars, there are features that can be enabled (such as Traffic Sign Assist or High Beam Assist) and other such functions that can be enabled with the appropriate knowledge and the people with the appropriate software. It all depends on what hardware was put onto your car, then with editing of the car settings, those options can be enabled for free. An A5 camera is a BCM or Body Control Module put into the car - which gives you access to these features. To see what your car has on it, this can be done in two ways: 1) Ask the dealer to print out the build of your car. 2) Go onto Skoda erwin and type in the VIN number of your car, then get this information and print it out. Then we can advise the features which can be enabled on your car.
  19. If it has an A5 camera on it, then we can enable up some extras for you. If you are in Wales then @SashaGrace might be free to assist??
  20. I have a Amundsen system (2019 FL) available if you would like it. It will have to be reprogrammed and Component Protection removed but the unit is there if you want it.....PM me and we can discuss terms.
  21. Crazy money for Mk3's still. Good luck, let us know what extras it has.
  22. Yes it is still an option. However if there was genuinely a sat nav option retrofitted the Kenwood system still came with a NAV button that should have been retrofitted at the same time. I think if you go to Menu and scroll through the options the Nav option may present itself through that.
  23. For those of you who are interested, here is the spec of the car from erwin Vehicle-specific+information-modified.pdf
  24. 22/05/21 A month and a half after we have first purchased this car, My husband and myself have decided to keep the VRS. I would like to say that Skoda Customer Services have been less than good and that Skoda Finance have been very good. I was in the process of returning the VRS to Skoda Finance, but for the sake of a clutch pack and DMF. If you get over the DMF rattle and the jerky transmission, the car is a peach. It revs and pulls amazingly cleanly. We both love driving it and that is why we have dithered on the returns process. The quote from West End Skoda is too much at £2368.12 for Clutch pack and DMF. On that basis, I have therefore spoken with Darkside Developments in Barnsley (I'll reveal the price as soon as it is confirmed) and I am booking the car in there for fettling next month. Sadly don't totally trust our local independent VAG specialist. The price is high due to the 4x4 Haldex system and that it is a DSG.
  25. Okay in that case we need to look for errors on the CANBUS network. The DAB aerial feed is monitored and therefore if there is either a short or open circuit this will be reported on the 09 module. Can OP get a VCDS or ODIS scan done and get back to us pls?
