Anyone used this method of shading the Infotainment
Was just out walking the dog and walked past a Cupra Born parked outside someone’s house and noticed they had covered the infotainment and surrounding area with a grey microfibre drying towel/cloth that you use when washing your car. I’m assuming it was to keep the sun off it in the summer weather whilst parked up to try and combat heat related issues and actually blended in quite well with the colour of it and wondered if anyone else had tried this trick during the summer months?

Glad you found it. I was sure it was in there somewhere.

You might hopefully find that the Skoda Approved bodyshop is actually linked to one of the local VAG dealerships which means they should be perfect at sourcing the correct colours and working with the correct parts etc....... I know that's the case in Sheffield where it's the Seat/Cupra Sheffield dealership that has a large bodyshop on the site and has all 4 "Approved Seat", "Approved VW", "Approved Audi" & "Approved Skoda" signs as you walk in to the reception. The wife has had to take her CitiGo and Fabia in to them 3 times over the years after incidents being hit/scraped/bumped by other drivers during her commute and they done perfect colour matches and repair jobs each time.

What would be a SMALLER but sporty replacement for my RS?
Weirdly after years of the Suzuki Swift being a bit of a Mini wannabe/clone that new Mini front end just looks like the new Suzuki Swift to me!!!!!

Speed Camera Notifications
I'm at work and the car is at home so can't check but i'm sure the Traffication app has some settings somewhere which possibly also cover what it tells you about? I'll be able to check on Monday when i'm off if need be.

What would be a SMALLER but sporty replacement for my RS?
If you want to stay with similar spec and performance then the obvious is to go for a Golf GTi or Golf GTE? Having had the Cupra Leon and Cupra Formentor as part of my "possibles" list before getting my vRS this year I'd avoid going for the Cupra Leon due to the build quality and materials quality. Benefit of the Golf will be that with the new car just being launched you'll probably pick up a 6 month old car for a good discount..... Or even a new pre-registered one maybe.

G-Meter On vRS Dashboard?
Cheers..... At least it's not just me not seeing it somewhere. I've just noted it mentions it as one of the one-click apps on their site. I'm toying with getting one of their dongles so will enable it when i do get one.

G-Meter On vRS Dashboard?
I've just seen an image & video on Facebook of a mk4 vRS dash that has a G-Meter as the right hand side "widget/info" on the Sport style screen with the long rev counter across the top of the screen. I've had a look on mine and i don't seem to have the ability to show a G-Meter (MY22 car). Is it something that is hidden in a menu somewhere rather than just scrolling through the available options or was this something that was added when the updated virtual cockpit was introduced (Along with the newer style sat-nav display with the dials over the top of the map) or is it even just something that isn't on UK spec cars?

umbrella / brush
Something that's standard in the cooler climates then? In our damper climate we just get the umbrella as standard instead.

Infotainment System Restarting endlessly
I also had the same constant dropping out of the eSIM signal after receiving a comms unit update (I can't remember the exact update description but it said that things like traffic, sat-nav and SOS wouldn't be working whilst it updated) a few weeks ago. It was connecting / disconnecting for the rest of that day but when i used the car a day or two later it was back to working OK again.

Tailgate "Easy open" not lifting tailgate correctly.
Yes as mentioned there are sensors that will stop the boot opening or closing if it detects someone or something is in the way. So i'd say you may be stood a little too close to the car after swiping your foot under the bumper.

Heated Windscreen Replacement Question
Just something I've thought of and wasn't sure of the answer so thought I'd ask. My current car (2022 Octy vRS) has the heated windscreen (The newer style method that has the copper look to it from the outside). Now what I wasn't sure about was if the windscreen ever needed replacing with it being this type of windscreen (And also with it having the built-incameras etc.... up in the mirror area) does the windscreen need replacing at a dealership or is it still something that you can get done by one of the usual windscreen replacement places? I was just wondering in case the situation unfortunately ever came along in the future.

Virtual cockpit
Mine is a vRS so is the Columbus rather than Bolero.

Virtual cockpit
I have and use the built in sat-nav yes.... I also subscribe to the multimedia connect service but that shouldn't make any difference to the directions being displayed by the built in sat-nav at the top middle of the virtual cockpit display as the built in sat-nav can be used without the subscription service (That just gives you live traffic info and the latest maps automatically downloaded to the car every couple of months).

Lane assist
I know i'm probably going to get a lot of hate for this but i don't think i've ever had it make me veer or swerve since having the car. I've had it in a few VW courtesy cars over the years from my VAG specialist when the Superb or Fabia were in for services etc.... and as explained by VW Germany to my specialist when they were over there being trained on the tech it's designed to be used with your lane change indicators but it seems here in Britain the majority of people just change lanes rather than flicking the indicator. I've always just used the lane change faciltiy anyway over the years but as i say i've not had the car make me swerve or veer in daily use. I'm not 100% sure but isn't the strength also adjustable in the settings so maybe i have mine at a lower setting? There is a little pull on the steering when i do purposely cross a line or maybe a painted over line etc..... As I say is it because us Brits just don't use the lane change indicators as we maybe should?

Digital Skoda Service Records
I've never had a dealer (Skoda or other) who haven't happily printed out a car's service history upon request. 👍

As I said earlier you don’t need a data plan and you don’t need a WiFi connection to access the Skoda Connect and the Multimedia Connect services. (I don’t have a data plan and I don’t have my car setup up to my home WiFi and my car is downloading maps and apps fine via the car’s eSIM). If you keep the WiFi off and the eSIM on are you able to connect to the car in the Skoda Connect app and see all its info etc…. That would confirm the connection via eSIM is ok and that it’s not a mobile blackspot issue or eSIM fault. The other possibility is the age of your infotainment software which is very out of date. I’m not sure whether that would affect the use of the online apps and satnav though.

Skoda Octavia IV pictures thread
Found myself having a look out of the window at work the other day so whipped the phone out and took a quick picture of the car. It’d have been rude not to. 😁

Where is the Alcantara in my vRS?
Steering wheel is leather. There’s the Alcantara strip running right across your dashboard with the red stitching around it. Not tried it myself but others have recommended stuff like this in various other places.
