That is porperly insane and keeping with this thread - I am in a right place then :D

The only thing I can think of that would be cooler than seeing this monster surprising someone is if someone else did a similar job but with more drag set up and you both didn't realise and it took you by surprise lolol That would be epic!

I thought you was going to keep the power upgrade close to your chest?

Couldn't contain yourself

we've decided that 400bhp would be a more sensible amount.

YES!

Sensible as always... ;)

I'd have thought that another 50bhp wouldn't equate to being more driveable. If you intend to run relatively narrow tyres arent you going to be traction limited (even with the haldex) at 350bhp?

400bhp in a citygo hell yeah

what turbo you going to use ?? gotta be a new gtx range as there 1 million times better than ihi etc

gtx2868 will be unreal

you going to run wmi to try and aid the temos as its such a tigh squeeze im sure engine temos will be high ??

really looking forward to seeing this eat the track up

you putting lsd frot and rear??

well done buddy

100bhp per wheel seems logical to me :)

Wow! What a power target. This will be great

It's not another 50bhp to make it more drivable, if that's how it sounded I phrased it wrongly.

It's more a case of what power we can get and retain good drivability through the rev range.

The figure of 350-370 was set because going any more could have meant going for a bigger turbo, so more lag, so less drivability.

But it seems we can crack on with around the 400 mark without having to go up to a turbo that's late spooling in the rev range.

I don't want something that comes on song with a huge lump of power, or doesn't reach full boost until high up the rev range.

It needs to be quite smooth for track days.

Having seen how many cars put down varying amounts of power I think 100bhp per wheel should be fine.

The mkI Fabias are very good around the 200bhp mark, even with a big slug of torque and no drive to the rear.

The mkII is around 90bhp per wheel and does well with a few mods.

We'll put slightly wider tyres on, going from 165 to maybe 185. I've seen these on blackandwhite's Citigo and they look fine.

Baring in mind this will be around 200kg heavier than a stock model (but still around 250kg lighter than a mkI fab on 205 tyres) and I think the ground pressure will be about right.

That's a discussion for later Clive, got a bit of engine work to do first. ;)

...and some form of clamp to make turbo swaps a lot easier. :bandit:

(not sure if they think I'll change my mind later. )

It'll be an interesting and entertaining result either way ;-) I think you see exactly what I'm getting at; that sort of power going through those four contact patches with that little weight over it...

I know I can spin up all four wheels very easily in the two lowest gears given a little dampness on the road and that's with 225 section tyres and a heck more weight over the tyres.

Oh and I'm sure Richard knows I'm in no way knocking anything to do with this project, it's totally immense IMO. :-)

I do.

No problem with discussion anyway.

As you suggest, I may have to be a bit restrained in the wet. :notme:

I do wonder if you'd notice a difference with a Haldex lock out switch though.

Having a 50/50 split from a standing start would possibly give better traction, because although the Haldex 4 is very good, it has to wait and then react.

That's not how I understood it. I thought that was the case with generation 2 haldex but I thought that generation 4 was pre emptive using additional sensors, one of which looked at the throttle position/revs? I know for a fact that the Yeti system is far better than the generation 2 I had on my previous mk1 octavia 4x4 turbo. There's no 'chirp' from the fronts before the power is transferred to the rear. You pull off hard feeling the push from the rear mainly now and theres absolutely minimal amounts of knowing where the torque is being transferred to and when. With the original haldex you could feel the system shuffling it back and forth between axels and sometimes it would manifest itself as a slight instability when it happened at the limit causing the back to kick when it was sent to the rear on a hard corner. However I know our done a fair bit of research on haldex so if you know differently then please educate me. :-) I firmly believe that every day is a school day! ;-)

That's how I understood it too, which explains why my Yeti goes surprisingly well.

I just wondered if a lock switch would give any benefit.

Maybe locking diff(s) are in order.

Anyway, back to the Citigo... :) (which will have locking diff(s))

There is a programmable control box for the Haldex 4 so you can change the bias and when it reacts.

What Are you having in the Citigo if you are having fixed diffs?

Not fixed diffs, locking ones aka LSD.

Plan is to add a Haldex controller so if required exactly 25 percent of the power goes to each wheel.

lsd front and rear with the race haldex controller switched to 50/50 will make this car 1000% drivable and will mean 100% of the power will be used it really is the pinnacle of all setups

love it

Or go for full monty torque vectoring, but that sadly wAs ruled out earlier in the thread.

mental.

I wondered why someone was chained to the ramp with that silver car when I was there on Wednesday. i do hope they let him have comfort breaks....

Any more updates? Noticed you teasing in the status updates. Plans for the Yeti too? V10 diesel?

If you lock the haldex, limit the slip on the diffs etc would this not cause so much grip you break something? I guy I worked for had a super tuned A4 TDi Quattro, in the dry and launching the car he often stripped the teeth off the gearbox lay shaft!

IMO a bit of slip between the tyres and tarmac would be ok.

Mr Fox, is the Citgo go going to Castle Combe in April?

  • Author

The diffs only lock when you accelerate, so out of corners and on the straight, which allows for cornering on a trailing throttle and trail braking.

Haldex controller can be set in race mode, allowing an amount of slip, but is more aggressive than the road setting coming in earlier.

I'll probably only use true 50:50 lock on the haldex for straight line events line quarter mile runs. It has road, race and lock.

Yes, I have already booked my space on the Castle Combe April Briskoda session. :) Hope to see people there.

It will be good to stretch the legs on the Citigo and see what it can do.

At least I'll be in a Skoda this time.

(not sure I'd be allowed again in the other car)

Brisky Castle Combe day here: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/257172-castle-combe-spring-acton-day-2013-270413-tracktime-clubstand/

How much longer will we have to wait til its done?
