New Golf R

Featured Replies

I just dial back my expectations in the wet. 3 out of the last 4 cars I have owned have been RWD and I find more fun in them (not including the off road cars I've also ran so I can keep mobile in extreme winter weather  :D )

Amanda ,you spend more time on the R thread than me- you must be lusting after one, now you have realised your mistake!! lol

  • Wow! A bit of a fly on the wall comment in jest has been turned into me supposedly taking the credit for the size of the thread!?! Err...ok...   Just to clarify, I have far more important things to

  • Apologies is this thread is going a bit "off topic", but I'll carry on anyway as there is Golf R content... This is my personal experience of the S3, Golf R and M135i and the respective test drives.

Not possible

:)

Golf R in a field with straw bales and on YouTube with romantic music. Perfect dogging car that has a quick get away. Just needs offered in black and gold. Lovely.

Stalking me now, George?

Is dogging a Scottish pastime?

Banter, Glasgay banter Brimma.

Well there is the Golf/Rabbit, so why not the Golf/Doggy (I was careful not to call it a dog)

just popped in :hi: to say Is this still going? :p

Yes, it's a thread twinned with the M135 one

Golfs are fab, still want another mk2 lol

Jesus my in box................ :dull:

Full of the M135i thread waffling on about (hackable) remote stuff from my phone, so how many times does a mobile phone get nicked, dropped, etc...........so you can't get in the car then ............... :p

& masses on finance & pcp etc.............wow so basically spend even more on the car (4% by the sounds of it ) than the list price & still call it a good deal???................. :D .......

What happened to look at the list price & pay that or ask for a discount..................I got £1,600 off my built to order one & didn't have to ask, however it helps if you know the dealer........... :D

And as for the Golf R thread it seams to be full of people stating that it doesn't have soul & not "getting" the advanced 4wd system....................

Conclusion if people are prepared to spend even more than the list price on a smaller car which has less room & luggage space, less grip in winter, wet weather etc ( oh & you have to have a cheap jap 4wd as a separate winter car, that's really clever thinking there.......... :p ).........& all for just a particular configuration of mechanic bits (straight 6 engine & rwd) which have NO advantages in the real world over a more all-round car then LET THEM...........................if that makes them idiots in our minds so be it........... :p

Unfortunately even though you are on my ignore list, the link to this post came up and I inadvertently clicked on it and it opened.

Before this kicks off again. What we post in he M135 thread is our business as it's on topic and further more we actually own the car we discuss (a good start to stating an opinion?)

Your money posts are laughable, especially when you discussed previously your own car.

To me it stands to reason that as owners we post the things we like (and dislike ) about our cars and I am inherently suspicious of any actual owner who claims their car has no faults. Golf R is a good car, it wasn't the type of car I wanted though. You perhaps like that sort of car more than the RWD type, so go for it. It will no doubt make you happy. Please add me to your ignore list and 'Unfollow' the M135 thread. It will also make you happy.

Anyhoo, hopefully the ignore function will work again now.

There's an ignore function? Lol

There's an ignore function? Lol

Slightly OT but it just show the individual in question has posted and not their actual post.

Back on the R thread. Will VW not bring out a 7 speed DSG for the Golf? I keep reading VW are looking at something like a 10 speed auto!!

I might try that thanks!

I know about a 9 speed lol

Doesn't matter what I say as you'll ignore anyway which is why I posted this as this thread if for Golf owners only then,.... as you are basically telling me to butt out & unfollow the M135I ..........so why don't you unfollow this thread & butt out of this (Golf R) thread then?................

Oh & as for my "money posts"....................WTF??......................& as for " we actually own the car we discuss"..............by the sounds of it you don't as it's on pcp so the bank own it in the end NOT YOU.......shows how much you know.............

Anyway MY POST which YOU quoted was written entirely IN JEST for the Golf owners as I knew you had me on your IGNORE LIST............

Bloody BMW drivers............... :p

I might try that thanks!

I know about a 9 speed lol

I've read a few reports on 9 speeds. They seem a bit varied on whether they work well or not. Mind you if someone told me I would one day have a car with 8 gears when I was driving around in my 4 speed Hillman Hunter, I would have laughed and said it would be unusable :D

Don't VAG do 7 speed DSGs in some of their other more powerful cars? Is it too big to fit in something like the Golf along with the 2.0??

Ha yip very true!! :) the scamper for quick and efficient cars is driving up gear numbers. Lol

If the these 7,8,9 speed cars were manual, they probably wouldn't be much use, even if the gear changes were brilliant. I think they only work because they are automatic and the changes are pretty quick.

While those of us that want to drive them rather than trade fun for 0.2 seconds off the 0-62mph time are still quite happy with 6 forward gears. ;)

I like the extra 'parps' per trip :)

I do wish people would stop dissing BMW drivers as they're easily offended - and some have big sticks lol! ;-p

As for having a car on PCP not being the same as buying it, well I'll take exception on behalf of Amanda as it's totally irrelevant. PCP can be an extremely good way of owning a car. Yes I did say owning! After all, spending £30k on a car and having it depreciate by £10k over a few years is no different to spending £10k on a PCP package.

Let's keep this civil and inoffensive so as not to antagonise anyone........

Yip that's why I bought a manual version lol
