Yeah the colour really suits it so quite chuffed with that.

Didn't get the adaptive suspension in the end as had to draw the line somewhere with the options! The ride is pretty decent on the standard setup but with adaptive comfort mode gets slightly softer. I could only tell a slight difference when I tried it on my testdrive but lots of owners rate it a must-have option.

Lots of BMW support at the moment so discounts pretty strong and a good time to buy if you are tempted! I think a facelift is due next year but that will probably mean the end of the good deals for awhile at least.

Finances allowing I might be looking at one next year (post face lift) but there are usually some decent discounts to be had :) Sadly, of course, this will be the last proper RWD 1 series :(

I have also read that you can get decent mpg out of these cars on the motorway?

Yep, all reports are that the next gen 1er will be FWD :-(. I also doubt there will be any 6-cyl powerplant in it either.

I don't think you will regret it if you get one! I suspect discounts will dip as demand rises with the facelift (currently possible to get over £6k off) but deals will still be around.

I've not taken mine in the motorway yet but people on the forums suggest if you are gentle you can see around 40mpg on a cruise. I've hit high 30s on a regular basis driving to work on mainly A-roads but currently averaging around 27mpg which is pretty decent given it's not run-in fully yet and the performance available. I suspect when it loosens up abit more I will be getting around 29-30mpg oer tank. :-)

Lovely car, quite fancy one but it doesn't look that special or sporty though.

Is it the same as the old shape 1M jobby as that was turbo'd?

I wondered about that but figured it was because I'm not a BMW expert.

It looks like a 1 series, but with two tailpipes.

I'm guessing there must be a difference in the panel work and/or bumpers though.

Bet it goes well and is a serious step up from the mk2 Fabia VRS he had before.

I'm a massive fan of these, unfortunately for 135i owners, every Tom, **** and Julie runs around in a 120d M-Sport which looks identical apart from the 135i having two pipes and silver wing mirror covers. You can even get the blue M-Sport brakes fitted to the canal boat versions too! Does it really matter? Not to me. Still a great looking car with performance to match.

Looks good but as im not a BMW man I wouldn't really know what it was until I spotted the tail pipes.

Would love a ride in one just to see how good they really are.

BMW and Merc are two brands I haven't owned yet. Driven a few but never lived with one ;-)

It's turbo'd like the 1M , very similar engine. Just the one turbo on this (1M has two) and slightly reduced power I think but still very rapido. :-)

Cheers chaps! Yeah I definitely agree it is quite understated, but I really like that. Not a fan of huge wings and looking like it's just crashed into a ripspeed store lol! Besides I have to use the car for work visiting peoples houses so it'd be abit embarrassing rocking up in something too 'boy-racer' haha.

The only exterior changes over a regular m-sport are the twin pipes, different alloys, grey mirror caps and a slightly different front bumper. You also have the blue 4-pot brakes but those are an option on regular variants. It looks abit more aggressive in the flesh but still has that stealth factor. Very handy for blitzing people who have no idea what it is....!

I work with these every day. (BMW service advisor)

They have to be one of the best value for money 'sports' cars available. It'd be interesting to get your impression of the 0-60 time as BMW's estimate seems to be VERY conservative. Many owners have reported sub 4.8 seconds which puts it right up there with the E90 M3.

Great car, Enjoy.

Could that be because they wouldnt want to advertise the 1 series as faster than, it or as fast as, the flagship 3 series though?

I've not tried to time a 0-60 lol but I'd imagine on a good surface in the dry the official time could be beaten.

There are quite a few people on the bmw forums who have made the move from the previous gen E90 M3 to an M135i and they say the old M3 has the edge when driven 100% balls-out on track but in day to day road use the M135i is actually quicker as the performance is more accessible, mainly due to the huge reserves of low and mid-range turbo grunt :-)

I think they're right tom, although it's a joy working the v8 to 8300rpm it could always benefit from some extra mid range shove for when you need to do a real fast overtake etc.

Have you had a chance to check the mpg on a motorway Tom? I hear they can be very economical at a steady cruise

Not had a chance to try out a motorway trip yet Amanda. Living in Cornwall our nearest motorway is a fair trek away! Taking a gustimate based on my experiences so far tho I'd say mid 40s is possible on a steady cruise at 70ish. Pretty decent considering the performance available :-)

That would be crazy :) I got low 40s at motorway speeds in my old 123D! Admittedly at a slightly higher speed than 70 (obviously that was on a closed road or abroad etc ;))

I get just shy of 40mpg on my commute in the morning form a cold start doing about 10miles on mainly single carriage A-roads if I'm pottering along. If I'm late and hooning it it'll be more like 25mpg.

Average for a tank is now high 20s but that includes a fair bit of stop start work around town.

One of these is on my list as my next daily driver. I'd like the coupe but my wife's practical streak will ensure that we at least consider the five door hatch. Anyway, I've seen what one of these can do on the track, they sound like thunder and they eat both brakes and tyres... and they do really need the big brakes.

prefer wolf in sheep's clothing to sheep in wolves clothing any day.

A guy at work had a look round the car today. He was wondering how powerful it was so I asked him to guess. "150bhp" was the answer..... Nearly choked when I told him it was 320 lol! :-)
