Breaking VW Emissions Scandal -Mk I

Featured Replies

No EU Government can be surprised that the EU Testing that they have kept for nearly 2 decades has nothing

to do with the Emissions that vehicles emit outside of the Test Stations.

They knew they needed changing and EU Vehicle Manufacturers and others around the World Building in the EU or Importing were happy that they stayed as they were.

Can someone update this thread so that the first post contains any 'factual' developments and actual procedures etc. I have been keeping track of developments but i may have missed a few pages that could contain critical info etc. It would be useful if you could just check page one for updates without wading through speculation and waffle.

Skomaz - was bought from Rainworth near Mansfield, but I think they are the same people as Bickerton in Sheffield. I was surprised that a lot of people have had positive experiences here, but most of these reports seem to have been from buyers who didn't have any problems. It is the customer care people who are based in Sheffield also.

Ryeman - I agree VAG can't afford to slip up here, they need to be open with the data otherwise they will experience another wave of negative publicity. My thought was if the defeat software was active during the test, then without this software active does it shift the vehicle from the middle or bottom of the test scope to the very upper limits of the Eu5 standard?

Scribbler,

why not go to the Briskoda 'Motoring News & Announcements' pages for up to date information.

Or just google VW Scandal and read the days News Items in the News Media.?

Scribbler - What, do you mean, like a special page just for you? :D

If you're affected you WILL get a letter from VAG.

I see some of the US & Australian Media talking of Investigations of a 2nd Software Programme.

'The Conversation' today has another angle worth a read

"Volkswagen Fallout Shows How Not To Manage a Crisis"

Possible global recall cost €100B .

Exactly. They had no choice to hold their hands up to what they done in the US but they must have known that other manufacturers in the EU were achieving similar results and when that came to light it would have softened the blow.

But I suppose they were under tremendous pressure to provide answers/information and so couldn't delay anymore than they did.

Apologies if any of this is waffle.

Too late

You're nicked!

)))))

There will have,to be a certified emmissions and consumption statement .......as in the original windscreen placard.

Hopefully motoring journalists will do their job and demand the power and torque data for the modified cars be published.

VAG can't afford to look slippery anymore .

Sorry, but until we know the EXACT details of the "fix" it is impossible to say what, if any, the effect will be.

Try researching

Low Temperature Combustion

A CI engine using petrol is apparently and hopefully the future for reduced CI temps and thus much lower NOx emmissions.

Yes but I'm just saying that whatever they come up with it has to satisfy the customer in terms of economy and performance.

They can't just set out to simply satisfy regulators in terms of emmissions and then expect us to accept the result.

Australia is good for the Law and Consumer Rights.

It is why European Manufacturers can not just have Manufacturers Warranties Expiring and then say, tough.

Because the Product Bought has to last and be fit for purpose longer than just for the Warranty Period.

Lets see just what VW Europe & VW Australia do have to do to satisfy Australian Regulators and Customers.

Yes but make it snappy and get a wriggle on, I would like to get on with the rest of my life. :notme:

I read this article earlier and wondered if the values of VAG cars had been affected already.

http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/cars/article-3247682/Car-valuation-experts-say-emissions-scandal-not-discernible-impact-prices-used-Volkswagen-motors.html

I had a valuation from We Buy Any Car early August, then another valuation end of August and the price was only £65 less, i did a fresh valuation today and the valuation was £2,220 less, it may be that they just don't want another VAG group car on their books because owners are trying to get rid now, i tried to ring them to ask why the big drop in price and to tell them that some cars like mine are unaffected, nobody answering the phones.

Just imagine what the Losses would be to all those Main Dealers with used Stock from what they already paid for cars or have on borrowed finance.

Then all the Fleet & Hire cars that are out on lease.

Volkswagen Groups Finance arm, and the Central Bank that lent to them, all the Creditors, Contractors, Transporters etc.

Many many people do not want Resale Prices / Residuals down.

Deutsche Bank has its own financial crisis unconnected to the Volkswagen Groups troubles,

it looks like many other Financial Institutions will be in a bit of trouble.

I wonder if George Osborne has much of the UK's money invested in the Volkswagen Group,

obviously they were as safe as houses for putting the UK Pension funds into.

I remember when so many here were keen of VW buying Bentley.

Lord Michael Heseltine was i seem to remember,

he who owns Haymarket Publishing that are the Owners of What Car, Autocar and several others Motoring & Motorsport Magazines.

I have said it loads of times..... I DO NOT think that VAG Group will be stupid enough to give a customer a car back that will **** him/her off anymore  than they already have over the last week or so....  In the last two weeks or so... 11 million ****ed off customer... give them a car back that is not right.... **** 11 million off even more! OH and give the press a bit more to stir up ;)

As mentioned all the crap we are reading at the minute is speculation and panic brought about by the press and there "so called" experts.... IF the experts are that good I am sure VAG could do with the help...

Nobody knows what the "fix" maybe ,,, So stop panicking until VAG GROUP say what it is and treat everything else as bull****...

Mine is involved... so what, when they tell me what the "fix" is I will decide then... until then .....

Quite likely they don't want to take on any of the affected cars at the moment so the offers are going to be low. I've been looking for a diesel, estate DSG for a while now, a Passat Sport or Octavia VRS have been top of the list and I've been checking the prices of my saved cars on Autotrader. The dealer cars have hardly moved in price since the scandal broke but a couple of the private sellers have reduced prices quite heavily.

I can't decide what to do, either go ahead and buy an affected car or go for a 320d or C class instead. My concern over an affected car is not so much about the 'fix' and how it'll affect performance/mpg as I could always choose not to take it for the 'fix' but how the values will stand up long term.

They do have past form. PD170 injector recall.

They do have past form. PD170 injector recall.

May well have done it in the past, but did this involve this much bad press across all brands, involve people being suspended, involve the German offices being raided on Friday, involve Government departments and the possibility of lots of legal claims as well as possible prosecution possibly in more than one country?

I think this may be a little different to other "recalls" ;)

Look how bad this can get. Multiply this by 10 fold to get the European picture. Could well bust V A G if European  lawyers follow suit.

Volkswagen is considering full refunds for owners of “cheat switch” cars as compensation.

The motor giant’s chief in the US confirmed it was “one of the areas we are looking at”.

Michael Horn was being quizzed by a Congressional hearing and was urged to refund the cost of cars found to have the device which illegally beat tough US diesel emission rules.

The move would rocket VW’s estimated £4.7billion costs.

Congressman Chris Collins, who accused VW of “arrogance”, suggested bosses should budget for 10 times that.

Mr Horn said he didn’t sleep at night and that VW “could take one to two years minimum” to upgrade 430,000 cars’ exhausts in the US.

His evidence emerged as police raided Volkswagen’s HQ in Germany.

The defeat device was fitted to 11m cars and vans worldwide, including nearly 1.2m in the UK.

In that case prepare for a new engine or a buyback offer because only two things can be satisfied.

Power

Economy or

Emmissions

Chose your two.

Surely Stefan Jacoby the CEO of VW USA  up to 2010 is who they want to being calling in, if he has not been already.

He who left VW to go to head Volvo and is now head of GM Globally.

There must be a few VW Group Executives & Ex Executives that are going to be trying to avoid North America.

Well unless they were maybe whistle blowers.  Possibly doing a deal to save their neck.

I remain fascinated how the odd poster on this thread apparently knows chapter and verse about how the modifications will affect our vehicles and how our lives will be doomed ever after.

I'm sure if I hated all things VAG as much as it comes across in some posts, I'd spend my waking hours somewhere else, talking to people who may actually be interested.
