Breaking VW Emissions Scandal -Mk I

Featured Replies

Only a couple of hundred years back people just put sewage out of the house and into the street.

People collected Water at a Well or pump in the street.

Then there was Paraffin and Gas Lights.

Running Water out of a a tap in Houses, Toliets in a out house, then a WC in a stair well, and only recently toilets in houses.

It is amazing how infrastructure changes and needs to change.

Now lots needs replaced, Sewers / Drains, Water Supplies, National Grid, Power Stations, and probably Filling Stations.

Yep then Nationalised industries carried out major infrastructure improvements.

Now we'd need the Government to write big cheques and guarantees to Foreign companies promising high returns on their investment for decades to come. Hinkley C anyone?

The National Grid has had no real infrastructure upgrade for decades and certainly upgrading housing estate transformers and street cabling is entering new territory.

Just look forward to even higher Bills. :)

There are higher bills already, around Newcastle.

Also North of Perth, higher tariffs where plentyfull quantities of the electricity is being generated onshore and offshore,

so that is those nearest that are paying the most for it.

This is because of the way Transmission Charges are, and because the UK Government allow it to be so.

If the Interconnectors had been Funded years ago then this would not be the situation,

and then England might not have the Energy Crisis that it is facing.

Lots on bills to pay green energies and renewables, and to clean up and pay for the Dirty Polluting Power Stations

on Stand By, and to clean up the Nuclear Mess from those Nuclear sites, several of them in Scotland.

Now we have Diesel Farms around the UK to stop the lights going out in England.

how we can move forward to reduce the 29K pa UK premature deaths by air pollution and the 100Ks of ones each in Europe, US, China, India etc.

Easy

Build a HUGE wall around this (now) septic isle to keep their poisonous air out and ours in.

Then, all the very expensive work we are doing to reduce global pollution will benefit US

The diesel units are a drop in the ocean. The sizable "Farm" in Devon produces 20MW.

The Thames Estuary wind farm produces 630MW, a typical large coal fired station is 2000MW.

I've installed Diesel Generation sites. They can offset frequency fluctuations at maximum demand but they are expensive to the consumers/bill payers and another expensive consequence of the push for heavily subsidised wind generation.

For all the Billions we have sunk into Wind and the amount it adds to our bills it's currently producing 1.4% of the UK's electricity. The Thames Estuary (London Array) cost £2 Billion on its own for just 630MW and that's only if the wind is blowing which currently it isn't.

Lee, do gas fuelled power stations have to run at near full tilt for maximum efficiency? If so how fast can they ramp up output if we have windless days. I see we have a few on the bounce this week

Goneoffskion1 is correct about off peak electricty generation. Dinorwig power station was built to use this and the release at peak times.

I know I built it !

Did you have help?

It's amazing what one man can do with a spanner!

Ah, a man, a spanner, a hammer, a roll of gaffa tape and a shed, can change the world...........so I am led to believe :D

Back on subject.

or only 2 rogue employees at VW ,

or later 'many fewer than 10 and more than 2'.

I see the Americans are suggesting the 3.0 TDi is now involved in the cheat.

But 'they', however many 'they' are were only obeying orders!

Although vw are currently denying the v6 have defeat software and I would imagine they would have thoroughly checked every engine over the last month.

The thing VW has tried to avoid all along, a picture of a Porsche appearing

or mention of Porsche being involved,.

other than the Head of Porsche becoming the CEO of VW.

My God, what happens if the V10 fails next! All those Toureg recalls!

Who dreams up these figures?

The Daily Mail?

VW strenuously deny dodgy V6 diesels

The German brand issued the following statement vehemently denying the accusations:

“The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) informed Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft on Monday that vehicles with V6 TDI engines had a software function which had not been adequately described in the application process. Volkswagen AG wishes to emphasize that no software has been installed in the 3-liter V6 diesel power units to alter emissions characteristics in a forbidden manner. Volkswagen will cooperate fully with the EPA clarify this matter in its entirety.”

The announcement was made by Volkswagen AG and chances are Audi and Porsche will release their own stories too. There are numerous vehicles equipped with the 3.0 TDI diesel burner and these include the Audi Q5, A6, A7, A8, Volkswagen Touareg and Porsche Cayenne, which have been sold in the U.S., in the 2014-2016 model years.

I'm waiting for the shock that the Veyron isn't too good on emissions either

TDIClub's equivalent of this thread is up to nearly 11000 posts now, for anyone with time to burn.

Just in case anyone thought this one was long and inaccessible.

They have aggregated a lot of useful summary info into the first post though, which although US-relevant primarily, may help those wishing to get an overview without too much reading.

There was a useful request to do that to the first post in here, but was pooh-pooh'd unfortunately :(
