Breaking VW Emissions Scandal -Mk I

Featured Replies

They recently did 1000 miles in a day in a Zoe.  The Zoe uses their Chamelon charger using 3 phase AC at 43 Kw/60 hp feed which can can give significant charge in a few minutes ie when you stop for a comfort break. Plan is the charge should take a similar to time to filling up the car with diesel or petrol of course.   Zoe range is suppose to be 240 Km in extra urban style driving but is affected by temperature like most batteries ie the cooler it is the less it is.  High capacity charge are rolling out quite quick. Only large electrics I can think is the Tesla but some go from the hybrid PHEV of course with potential over 100 mpg and charging for almost free.

I refer you to my previous statement.

Who are 'they'?

1000 miles at an average speed of 60 mph would take 16.6 hours of driving. Stopping every 80 miles for 30 minutes would add another 6 hours. That's assuming you can get onto the fast chargers otherwise it 's a sixty minute charge.

Oh, and it's £1080 a year to rent the batteries.

A Leaf here.

Wasn't there a pollution scare in London earlier this year?

Hang about - it came from France, Belgium and Germany!

wtf

Exactly, when someone can produce an electric car that will get me to Hampshire and back in one day and carry the equivalent of a Superb bootful of survey equipment I'll think about buying one.   :wall:

They can. It's a Tesla.

They can. It's a Tesla.

...and it's only £62k.

He didn't mention cost ;)

So only 260% the cost of my Superb!  When my lottery ticket comes up...........................................................................................................................Oh, forgot, I don't buy lottery tickets!

Wait until the wave breaks and unit costs/prices tumble.....they'll be everywhere particularly with new battery tech and McDonalds/KFC/-/-/- fast charging sites.

Quite agree....but, when electric cars become more viable with acceptable range and cost there will have to be a shed more load of charging points installed. (average of two at most UK motorway services) Then the cost of charging will be higher and the government will have to introduce a form of taxation to counter the loss of revenue from the tax on petrol and diesel.

But they won't have so many hospital beds full thus NHS savings to offset other revenue loss......one can dream surely.

Oops ......lot of idling now.

U.S. Auto News reports dealers saying October TDI prices down 16% and sales down 25% ......fact......we could do with more.

This thread is about VAG and Emissions, not the environment and electric vehicles.

Mine is about VAG

In as much as a 16% reduction in the U.S. values raises the question of UK/EU trade activity on TDIs.

SEAT/SKODA/VW warranty 60K miles, just about every one else 100K warranty, hmmm (or pay extra for extension!)

May I request that you find a dark corner somewhere, and go into the shadows. Leave the grown ups to talk sense.

Diesels are less popular in the US as they are in Europe. In the states diesels make up around 3% of cars, where as in Europe it's around 50%.

So what are you saying about UK/EU trade valuations and sales of (once?) popular TDIs?

Have the trade issued any hard figures?.

This thread is about  emissions and how V A G have cheated the world, and caused much concern for diesel  engined vehicles so I am surprised I cannot find  anything about  an Octavia model, the G-TEC, which I did not even exists. It runs partially on compressed natural gas and I cannot find anything  on Skoda .co.uk  about it. No performance or prices. It  may well it is not available in England. I would have thought with all the trouble V A G is mired in re it's emissions, they would be pushing a natural gas product for all its worth and  making a Superb with such engines?.

I need a car that can do 500 miles in a day and cruise at high speed on the motorway :(  will probably have a V8 before that day ever comes, and I don't think the V8 is all that likely.  Can't blame this on VW though, although one of those ruddy GTE Golfs nearly had for me as I came out of Tesco tonight! They should be made to beep or squeak or something

Just missed out the bit where VW have dumped tonnes of extra lethal poisions in to the atmosphere and will get fined billions pro-rata like BP for it by the US and others.

That seems a little unfair. If it's in the atmosphere, then pollutants chucked into the air in the USA will eventually make it's way over here. So I want some of the money that the Americans will sue for :) Or do I sue the Americans for sending their polluted VAG air over here?

Where are those helpful telly lawyers??

Not seen any hard facts and figures on sales or values, it will probably take another month or so to see the true impact. There has been a lot of scaremongering in the media regarding NOx emissions this year, so diesels sales might have started to drop back and then diesel fuel became cheaper than unleaded, so diesel was back in fashion.

This week we've been told that bacon will give you cancer, so NOx has dropped off of the front page. Everything will quieten down until in the new year when the real truth about the nasties in unleaded emissions will put diesels back in favour. Then we will be told that beer is bad for you and we will all be miserable again.

Unless you are having to trade within the next few months......some are in a difficult position.....just some, mind you.

Vw dealers will honour prices before this cheating came out so vw are trying to mitigate any loss to customers

So if 'VW,Skoda,Audi, Skoda'  Official Dealers give September 2015 Trade in Prices,

is that the Volkswagen Group that are going to compensate the loss they have when they sell those cars on for less or put them to auction?

So much Speculation, and anecdotal tales of having been told be a Dealer, Salesperson or someone that washes cars at a Car Dealers on what is to be.

PS

I think we were told that Eating Bacon /Processed meats, Red Meats could increase the risk of getting cancer,

not that it would 'Give you cancer'. (re post #2599)

Like being alive can end up with you getting cancer, just from Breathing, drinking and eating natural foods,

and never eating processed meats, or increasing the risks by .Smoking, Breathing in high levels of NoX etc.

(What is the Increased risk to life (premature death) from being run down by a Silent Electric Vehicle these days,

or even a vehicle not displaying DRL's on a Bright Sunny Day?)

What is inaccurate amount what I say?

Toyota, who have just overtaken VAG as the largest car seller, 100K warranty.  GM 100K warranty, Renault 100K warranty.

VW/Skoda 60K warranty.

I have been a loyal brand follower of Audi, SEATs, Skodas. Had A3, A4, Leon Cupra, Fabia & Octavia VRSs & L&Ks 4 of them, 6 other Skodas since the Felicia, but they have lost their way and now rank in the bottom few of dealership network satisfaction with the brand.  Such as shame as in the nineties and noughties they were such a great brand improved by initially and now ruined by VAG. http://www.nfda-uk.co.uk/_assets/NFDA%20DAS%20Results%20Summer%202015_1.pdf
