Breaking VW Emissions Scandal -Mk I

Featured Replies

At the weekend it was said to be 1.2, 1.6 & 2.0 litre Diesels.

Was that yet another 'Lost in Translation'   and it was

1.2 Million 1.6 & 2.0 litre diesels.

Announcements seem to keep getting reported, and the whole confusion starts to appear to be how Volkswagen want it to be until people stop listening.

The usual VW way, confuse and deny, and partially admit, then admit some more, and if it goes long

enough people just think, stuff it, it will sort its self out.

There is more important news stories.

Obama is away to Bomb more people. (not personally, he will use Americans and others to do it.)

The Minerals Market Share Prices are dropping.

Tens of Hundreds losing jobs in the Steel Works,

Millions of Refugees in Crisis as the cold weather sets in.

Reached 7*oC this morning in England and there are Fitting Winter Tyre threads.

1.2 million Skodas! Blimey. Glad I have a gas guzzling petrol at the moment! Still it could make for some cracking deals (Grommit) from the VW stable soon :)

Can I make a suggestion - edit the first post in this thread to include a list of facts around this, so we aren't getting the same questions and speculation over and over.

Why re-write History, ?

post #1 was then, this is over 10 days later, and things are more muddied than back then.

So people can see at a glance what we know rather than read thirty pages of speculation and ramblings, much of which has come from you.

So Sorry, i have not got a grasp of this forum thing yet.

I have not formed a theory yet,

or invested in Volkswagen though just thinking aloud if that is allowed..

It's not like it will kill anyone to try altering the first post. At least it would be a point of reference for those who like me, dip in and out of this thread (II had a lot of catching up to do as I had been away for a few days recently)

Maybe an idea to catch up on the news then.  The Telegraph has a running timeline.

Obviously you are aware by now that the first post on the 18th says what it says.

Someone didn't get a good nights sleep :D

I slept very well thanks.

Some read and post in the General Car Chat section, Social & Chat Zone.

and for News & Announcements on Briskoda might look there for News.

I'd figured that one :D although I thought it was a tad longer.

Does anyone know when VW/Audi/Skoda discounts will reach 50%?

What about Lamborghini? Do they do a diesel car yet?

I didn't want to appear greedy!!

I didn't want to appear greedy!!

Perhaps Santa will gift you a V10 diesel VAG car :)

All engines...

According to Volkswagen, vehicles sold in other countries with the 1.5L 4-cylinder TDI engine known as Type EA189 are also affected. The EA189 TDI is a 2.0L four-cylinder engine which includes the incriminated Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology. This software is also said to affect EA188 and the 2015 EA288 generation of the four-cylinder.

So... All Skoda and Seat diesel cars:

CAYB (EA189) including GreenLine

CUSB (EA288)

CAYC (EA189)

CRKB (EA288)

Not my engine. I don't feel special anymore...

Thanks for reply.

I am aware that VAG sold in California have to comply with their own standards, but they appear to have been using NOx lowering such as Adblue for a while. Here it's a relative newcomer, mainly in Euro 6 engines.

I hope I'm wrong, but I would be surprised if Euro 6 engines aren't also affected.

Hopefully a definitive list of engines will be issued soon.

I only have the modest 1.6 Euro 5 diesel, which looks likely to carry the cheat software!

The engines now are new. Its quite possible the redesigned engines are fine, and its just the 189s that couldnt comply without the cheat device.

Saying that, there is now a post claiming Other engines are affected, like the 288.

Quite a few articles suggest Euro 6 cars aren't affected but that seems unlikely to me.

If a TDI Octavia or Golf without Adblue needed to cheat to pass Euro 5 and CARB standards, I cant see how whats essentially the same engine in a Euro 6 car can possibly have passed,

Its the Adblue which makes them Euro6 compliant without cheating

Its the Adblue which makes them Euro6 compliant without cheating

But there are also Euro 6 compliant 2.0 TDIs without AdBlue, and only very minor differences from the Euro 5 version that was on sale a few months before.

It's far from black and white which ones are going to have been cheating.
