Skoda have not even acknowledged their participation in the "emissions scandal" on their website.

VW have announced that a recall will take place, but this is likely to take a significant amount of time.

Always a fan of Skoda, changes over the last few years, have led me to conclude that Skoda is just another mainstream car company that has little concern for customers. Disappointed.

Give it 6 months and this will all be forgotten, just like every other motoring scandal that's happened in the last 50 years.

Yes. I am sure you are right but VAG need to handle the issue properly to minimise brand damage.

Here are a few 'mistakes' that the manufacturers have made and yet the world continued to spin on it's axis and the companies went on selling millions of cars.

UK 150ppm

In the UK, the path to lower sulphur fuels started early on. For diesel, the sulphur level was reduced from 500 ppm to 150 ppm on 1 January 2000 and again to 50 ppm in mid 1999 (in the case of petrol, mid 2001).

US 15ppm

A 15 parts per million (ppm) sulfur specification, known as Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD), was phased in for highway diesel fuel from 2006-2010. Diesel engines equipped with advanced emission control devices (generally, 2007 and later model year engines and vehicles) must use highway ULSD fuel. Exhaust emissions from these engines will decrease by more than 90%.

 

Somewhat out of date there. The UK specification of sulphur is currently 10ppm. Not to mention the fact that it apparently went from 500 ppm to 150 ppm on 1 January 2000 and again to 50 ppm in mid 1999. Somehow it managed a jump backwards in time...

Once there was a nasty problem even with Bentley (maybe it wasn't a part of VW group then). Seat heating system was so powerful that it might fry you if you didn't manage to shut it down before it gets too hot :)

Sure, such recalls usually happen before some institution blames them for doing nothing to improve their made cars.

Skoda have a similar issue on Skoda Mk2 Fabias 2010-13 with Heated Seat Elements & there is no proper Service Campaign.

It is very dangerous, and cars are out there with dodgy switches and seat elements.

 

The Brand Director of Skoda UK is Alasdair Stewart that worked for Bentley once they were part of the VWG.

Slovenian VAG Importer has announced today, that they are stoping sales of their stock VW, Seat and Škoda Euro5 TDI vehicles. It is their own initiative. They continue to sell Audis, as they have received no instructions from Ingolstadt.

And i bet elk produce a fair amount of methane and co2 emmissions adding to the overall problem

So many pages to read but if not answered I ask, where can I see if I have the motor ea189 o my 2010 1.6tdi Octavia.

Any reference on the body or engine with the codes above

Skoda EA189 family engine codes were kindly posted on this page  by Petr Miler (PMiler) who linked to it from post 934 of this thread.

Go to that page and see whether your engine code matches one of those listed.

Engine code can be found on car data stickers in service book and boot floor, may also be on ownership document. May also be found on cambelt cover stickers.

What about CFFB? I drive 2.0 TDI CR produced in 2010 and I strongly suspect, it is rigged. Had ECU replaced two weeks ago and feel cheated twice: first time, when I bought my Superb and second time now ...

 

CFFB is definitely in, we mentioned it in general list of affeceted VW engines:

We were not sure if it was used in Skodas, but it apparently was. There is plenty of almost identical "C" engines, all should be affected... It is hard to find them all, some were used e.g. only in model year of Seat Exeo etc.

 

And one more thing - someone discussed the information about the involvement of EA188 and EA288. We got the same message directly from Wolfbsurg, so it is not a hoax. BUT they said those are among "other engines" using the software ineffectively, probably in some sleeping form or how to call it. Only EA189 should be using it actively. Trust VW these days, but... if this is correct, then there is nothing to solve in case of EA188 and EA288.

News at 10 said VW are recalling all the effected cars to fit new software FOC with a predicted cost of over £4 billion

Had a look at cambelt cover sticker earlier today and no code ea189 writen on it.
