Breaking VW Emissions Scandal -Mk I

Featured Replies

In 2013 SKODA UK Only first registered 66,000. Vehicles and 32,000 of those were Mk2 Fabia

That was record registrations for SKODA Uk

Then the next year is not more than an 8% increase in registrations or sales

I think at the press of a button Skoda Uk can tell all the figures. They are public anyway if anyone looks.

Apparently VW (and other VAG brands) Netherlands have joined Belgium, Switzerland and USA in halting sales of VW diesels to prevent the number of potential government and individual law suits and penalties.

Only a matter of time before UK joins the lengthening list?  Probably depends if SUK is a wholly owned subsidiary or separately quoted company.

The important bit might be, are there many or any Euro 5 Compliant 1.2, 1.6, 2.0 Diesel Engined vehicles sitting Unregistered & Unsold in the UK?

You wish... Think... Why EU cuntries halted sals cars with diesel engines with emission EURO5 when from 1-st September they are out? From that day diesels in EU has to be EURO6... only...

So dealers cant sell cars with Euro5 emissions... :p

All Euro5 cars would have been registered in Aug15 or before to beat the ban, expect their are some cracking deals on this if you do not have scruples about their emissions.

As I mentioned above it is not uncommon for manufacturer to do this for emissions or other EU legislation changes.  A few years ago helped a certain Far Easter car producer import a batch of several thousands cars to beat the EU cutoff on cyanide chroming (Don't suck the chrome on a car from a few years back).

VW, SUK etc usually compel each of their dealers to take several cars and to preregister to massage their annual sales figures and they have done this autumn particularly to get any Euro5s left out there so registered but maybe not yet sold to end customer yet.

Is a pre-registered car sold already? I think yes... so it's used car... It has registered name on V5... dealer name...

"A pre-registered car (or pre-reg) is exactly that; a car that has never been owned or driven by a normal member of the public (known as an end-user in dealer speak) but has been registered to a dealer, broker or leasing company.

From the day a car is registered it becomes a used car, even if it has never moved from the moment it landed at the dealership or even if it is still at the factory compound!"

And Italy...

UK will be retesting emissions on diesel cars... so we have to wait...

I've heard of special offers for such cars. Dealers need to sell certain amount of cars and if you got a possibility to buy such "used" car with discount - why not?

I suggest you reread the link and then climb down off your high horse!!

Thats funny... NY Times:

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/09/21/business/international/volkswagen-chief-apologizes-for-breach-of-trust-after-recall.html

"FRANKFURT — Volkswagen said on Sunday that it would halt sales of cars in the United States equipped with the kind of diesel motors that had led regulators to accuse the German company of illegally installing software to evade standards for reducing smog.

John Schilling, a Volkswagen spokesman, said that the company would stop selling 2015 and 2016 Volkswagen and Audi models equipped with 4-cylinder turbo diesel engines, which the company has marketed as “clean diesel.” The company will also stop selling used cars that have the engines, Mr. Schilling said."

next

"The recall involves 4-cylinder Volkswagen and Audi vehicles from the model years 2009 to 2015.

...

Affected diesel models include the 2009-15 Volkswagen Jetta, 2009-15 Beetle, 2009-15 Golf, 2014-15 Passat and 2009-15 Audi A3."

and small correction on the end:

"Correction: September 20, 2015
An earlier version of this article misstated the model years of affected cars that Volkswagen would stop selling. The company will stop selling both 2015 and 2016 Volkswagen and Audi models, not just 2015 models."

If you're not yet exhausted by this

'GoAutoNews' has more , including that the company now claims the number of cars is closer to 5 rather than 11 million.

Plus the Golf AllTrack

Yes, you right...

"Volkswagen has said previously about 11 million vehicles were fitted with software capable of cheating emissions tests, including 5 million at its namesake brand (VW), 2.1 million at luxury brand Audi, 1.2 million at Czech division Skoda and 1.8 million light commercial vehicles."

That makes number up to 10.1 million cars...

Don't forget about rest of VW Group...

"....the company...." would hardly be trying to ignore some of its own products, otherwise why would the mention the 11 million figure.

Not this time surely, unless of course they actually prefer self flagellation and want even more contempt.

They are facing numerous court actions and word spoken now will certainly be rammed back down their throats if they're continuing to mislead .

They are two in one... ;)

VW Group and VW Division... but VW Division of VW Group sold diesel engines to all it's sister and brother: Audi, Skoda, Seat...

btw.

"Volkswagen announced plans on Tuesday to refit up to 11 million vehicles and overhaul its namesake brand to try to move on from the scandal over its cheating on diesel emissions tests."

So, They will remap ECU and cut power... and 1.6 CR will probably drop from 105 HP to 75 HP...

I wonder if the recall will be compulsory or Voluntary? Surely no one in their right mind would take their car back to have its fuel efficiency and power reduced.

The can't use the "on safety grounds" reasoning. I bet they try and do it without customer knowledge at service intervals as part of their drive for "continual improvement"

I wouldn't be surprised if they specify higher spec diesel eg Shell Nitro diesel which will burn better, lower the pollutants etc

Like they used to do for the AUB 1.4 16v engine "100bhp when run on 98ron petrol, lower output if run on 95ron"....................

Not in Australia though as we don't have Nitro and it would simply be too restrictive for non urban owners.

I would expect whatever the eventually come up with (by the 7th Oct as required by German govt) it would have to cover all markets.

Oh that is terrible for the company.  If they have pre-registered these, not sure if the restriction not to register Euro5 beyond 1st Sept 15 is both EU and UK wide, would have thought it must be, so they have 4,000 or so cars on their books, presumably bought at a very knocked down price for VW, and the value must be under question now.

I have no problem with diesels if they are compliant with emission regulations and I do have a problem with petrol cars if they are not compliant.

Let us hope the owners of these defeat device fitted VW diesel engined are acting socially responsibly and driving with the ECO mode on, if they have that facility on their model, in consideration of other's health until this issue is sorted out with some sort of software or hardware upgrade and we can all breath easier.  I nearly always have the ECO set on with the Dacia and rarely use the Sports setting on the Jaag to be both economical and environmentally considerate.

The range of affected engines is definitely much wider. Yesterday, before the "1,2 million announcement", we published this list (scroll down the page):

http://www.autoforum.cz/zivot-ridice/tohle-jsou-vsechny-skody-s-tdi-co-hraji-dvoji-hru-je-jich-vazne-pozehnane/

It is still unnoficial but done with one of the Skoda engineers. And if there are no affected EA288 or EA188 engines, it should be complete or almost complete.

What about CFFB? I drive 2.0 TDI CR produced in 2010 and I strongly suspect, it is rigged. Had ECU replaced two weeks ago and feel cheated twice: first time, when I bought my Superb and second time now ...

Or it will go up to 110hp as per the eu6 models !

Or it will go up to 110hp as per the eu6 models !

Just because they currently have no evidence of cheating on the EU6 models doesn't mean they aren't cheating. I would imagine there is a bit of a delay between finding VW have the cheat coding (Tip off from GM, Ford or Chrysler for a guess) Contacting VW to give them a heads up and time to work out a strategy to deal with the ensuing fallout and then it actually arriving in trickle to the media. I still think this is tip of iceberg stuff.
