I'm hoping they will buy me the new tesla with 240 mile range :)

Off topic but God I would love a Tesla Model S with the ridiculous speed option :D  I don't like the interior, but the rest of that car is brilliant.

What about the golf gte

German car giant Volkswagen has revealed that more than 1.1million of its vehicles in the UK are affected by the diesel emissions scandal.

The company admitted today that within its various brands the number includes 508,276 Volkswagens, 393,450 Audis, 76,773 Seats, 131,569 Skodas and 79,838 commercial vehicles.

Every British customer who has an EA 189 EU5 engine in their vehicle will have it 'corrected in the near future', Volkswagen said.

Details of the vehicles affected will be released to retailers 'in the coming days', while owners will also be able to check via a self-serve process if their car requires a modification.

That's electric and petrol!

Yes I know I'm fed up with diesel, back on topic this will take months to sort out and it's worse than initially thought , so basically all diesels which where made from 2009 to when the euro6 engine arrived will be recalled

Can I claim back the increased car tax that will follow this ??

That's electric and petrol!

And in the U.S. market VW wasn't interested in promoting it.

Their 'point of difference' was 'clean diesel' as a way of ramping up U.S. sales volumes in order to win the global sales war with Toyota.

Spectacular fail.

Can I claim back the increased car tax that will follow this ??

I would have thought so , however the cars will be fixed so tax will stay

Ryeman.

You have it in one.

& to be No.1 they have borrowed and financed and manipulated the market on used cars residuals for years.

Leasing, Finance, projected values.

No idea who was providing the Money for Toyota to be number #1. How much the Corporation has,

& then the Investors and Finance.

With VW it has been the European Tax Payers and the Central Bank and and others.

Pyramid Selling really, and the Fraud & Criminal Investigations will be interesting,

Kick Backs, Government Grants & Subsidies for VW Producing efficient and greener vehicles surely might see White Collar Executives serving Jail time.

Or not as it will turn out, because that drags the Politicians into it.

Hi everyone

Apologies if there's already a thread I've missed but I thought this link might be useful to anyone who fears their car will be one of the ones affected by the use of illegal "defeat devices".

Solicitors Leigh Day have a helpful FAQs which I imagine they will keep updated as the picture becomes clearer.

I will certainly be watching with keen interest!

EDIT: Thanks moderator for moving this.

oh look - a no win / no fee offer from a legal company regarding potential claims...   what a surprise!

As I said earlier - the only winners from this will be the lawyers - I hate em!

Aye, the vultures are circling, next will be a deluge of evening phone calls and mobile phone messages. We need emission standards for lawyers.  :D

Think of all those poor PPI claims handlers going hungry, now there is light at the end of the tunnel.

That light at the end of the tunnel is a train coming.

I think I will just ask friendly Mr Skoda to bung into my 6 month old 1.6 the miraculous new Euro 6 1.6 engine

which apparently emits 40 times less NOx with more power and better economy. :D

on winter tyres.................

oh hang on that's another thread....................... :D

Oh the irony though as on my size browser window the last item on the bottom of that page is "12/08/2015 ŠKODA named as the UK’s most dependable car brand by JD Power"

I'm a smug Petrol vRS driver  :D that only has to worry about the tensioner destroying my engine  :p

Well I have heard of carbon capture where by they capture & pipe the gases into bedrock in the north sea.............

How about we just capture the "source" & just give them concrete boots & dump them in the north sea to make a reef???.............

any one know what engines are affected on the skoda range?

How tight are the Nox limits for EU5 cars?  I didn't think they were that tight and therefore defeat device or not, the cars wouldn't need adblue to get under it unlike in the US where they've been much tougher on Nox emissions.  Assuming the cars can meet the EU5 limits for Nox emissions, I guess the concern here is the Co2 emissions - how do the affected engines compare to rivals?  A friend has a Bluemotion Golf mk 6 2.0 TDI 140 which is £30 for VED which surprised me but then I've been surprised how low other cars have been for VED.

Hands up everyone who thinks its just a matter of time before they have to fess up to the EUR6 engines having a more advanced cheat method.

Once they have fixed these Cars and made them 'environmentally friendly' I wont be surprised if they install a separate cheat to know when the car is on a rolling road and having the hp and Torque independently measured and to turn the wick up a bit to get some headline figures. Basically the exact opposite of the Defeat device currently installed so crap performance until you get it on the local tuners rolling road.

Now that makes perfect sense. Maybe get them to look for oil when their down there.

"Volkswagen has imposed a hiring freeze at its financing business and cut a shift at a German engine factory as it braces for a hit to business from cheating in diesel emissions tests."

Why VW had to shut down (shift) factory where they are making Euro6 engines?

Edited by 67igor1

We know what VW are saying now, something will be happening once we see what we get away with, just hold on.

So what is the UK Governments line on this now,

are they cool with it all, no safety issues so leave it to Volkswagen to sort it out?

Any UK Minister for Transport made Statements,  Home Office, Trading Standards or anything recently.

I can not google just now.....

180 milligrams per km (for diesels) according to the AA.
