No, if you haven't got a DAB machine you'll not get DAB. Only the ones with the microphone are possible to have DAB, but that doesn't necessarily mean they will do. The older ones with the speaker & letter i never came with DAB.

Hi buddy, im interested in the unit. I already have the bluetooth and mic and the fin antenna. Jeed to get the money together but would you deliver and code it also for extra? Cheers :)

  • Author

I couldn't deliver it and code it I'm afraid. I can send it by courier but fitting and coding would be your issue. Also, the antenna you have won't be a DAB antenna (unless you already have DAB which I doubt very much) so you'll need a DAB antenna for the DAB radio. You could buy a stick on the screen type one I guess.

Hi, this looks like a great service.  Mine has just frozen three times on one journey, but a soft reset has fixed it for now.  However, I sense imminent failure!.  Out of interest, can you upgrade a 2012 Columbus to a DAB Columbus by changing the radio board, or is life not that simple?

  • Author

It's possible I guess, but impractical. The cost of the radio board is more than a trade deal where I sell you a DAB unit and take yours in exchange...

How much would I be looking at for an upgrade from a non DAB ssd Columbus to a DAB one if you took mine in PX? I have a non DAB GPS shark fin so would need an aerial upgrade as well.

My new 2018 Karoq Edition <snip>

This thread is specific to Columbus / RNS510 unit repairs etc. while you have a much newer MIB Columbus. There's nothing relevant between the two units.

Best post your question in the Karoq forum.

do you deal in Mk3 replacements to?

Unfortunately not I'm afraid. I've not found anyone reliable to supply or unlock MIB units.

Hi Rusty,

Just wondering if you get any RNS510s with DAB?

also can you supply Bluetooth modules?

cheers,

Tom

Not VW units I'm afraid. At least, not unless something strange happens and I happen to pick one up, but usually only Skoda units. I might have a Bluetooth module in the workshop though.

Hmm :/ ok. Do you have any with the cables and aerial for sale at the moment?

I can't supply aerials at a competitive price I'm afraid. All I can do is buy them at the same price as you can, and charge you more for the privilege. The seller I used to get them from has ceased trading and there's no other supplier than the ones Google searching will find for you. I'm also out of Columbus units at the moment (although I have one it's pencilled for someone else).

If anyone has a scratched, damaged or broken touchscreen for their MIB Amundsen or Columbus display, I can now supply and fit new screens to replace the broken part. Note this isn't the complete display unit. Simply remove the display from the car, post it to me (or drop it in if you're close enough) and I'll fit a brand new touchscreen to your display unit. Then either post back or collection.

Just to be sure, this is for the 5.8" Amundsen MIB1 and MIB2 display, and the 8" Columbus MIB1 and MIB2 display. This doesn't include the all glass touchscreen units just yet though, but I'll be looking at this as and when.

I can also supply/fit new screens for the 6.5" VW Discover displays, and I think these are also available in Amundsen displays from later production years.

Finally, screens are available for the 5" displays more commonly used in the entry level radio units if required. I don't hold stock of these at the moment, as I don't envisage much call for them really. Please ask if you need one though.

Prices are very competitive at £80 per screen unit (for Freedom members), plus postage both ways.  Given that second hand Ebay units are often twice this then it's worth considering.

Hi, do you have any units that would fit a 14 plate Rapid Spaceback? (If not, can you recommend what would fit please?) Looking to replace the Swing unit it came with for something a bit better. Car already has Bluetooth, parking sensors etc so keen to keep those functions too.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as Skoda have told me an upgrade would cost £1200.

Thanks,

I don't have anything at the moment I'm afraid. You could fit most standard Skoda units like Columbus or Amundsen for sat nav and possibly DAB (model dependent) or you might find a 6 cd unit from  a Superb maybe. They would all fit and work correctly.

Ah okay, that's great news!

Would there be any issues with setting it up? Read through other threads and may need some sort of code to get it set up correctly? Sorry for all the questions!

  • Author

Whatever you get you'll need a 4 digit security code to unlock it when you install it. Then you might need VCDSto code the car and unit to make sure they talk to each other correctly. You tell the car what head unit you've installed, and you tell the unit what spec the car is so they both pass the correct information between each other.

That's actually not too badly priced for what it is. It has Bluetooth built in and is also DAB, and it has the port on the rear which allows a reverse camera to work (if you have one fitted or are fancying fitting one).

You won't need the inbuilt Bluetooth feature if you already have Bluetooth in the car (you said you had), and you won't be able to use the DAB radio function without the addition of a DAB aerial.

The seller may have the security code, you'd have to ask him. If not, you can (should be able to) get it from a few ebay sellers for a tenner or so.

VCDS is a computer system which accesses the cars systems for fault diagnosis and coding applications such as this. It costs a few hundred quid and you;ll need a laptop. Or you can post in the VCDS users section on here and ask if someone local can do it for you for a few quid or wahtever they charge.

Note maps updates are awkward and not particularly cheap for this unit. There are issues also with later maps versions causing the unit to become unstable so be aware before spending money on updates. It's documented on the forum here if you search for posts regarding Amundsen Plus maps rebooting etc.
