Hi,

I am Bharath a masters student in Swinburne university and I recently bought a used Skoda superb 2011 with one head unit which was Columbus. The next day it started acting weird and it died. With some research and stuff I found out that it’s better to replace and I got one from a wrecker. It’s now asking for a code and I have requested for a dealer to help me with this. I had gone to one dealer previously and he said there might be component protection problems and it might not work. I am unsure where to go for guidance. If I input the code will the replaced unit from wrecker work as usual or would I need to take it to a dealer to get it component protection removed?.

kindly help me on this because I am a student and trying to stay on budget. Any help or advice would be really appreciated.

thanks and regards

bharath

Columbus for Superb Mk2 is NOT covered with Component Protection technology, it's just the code you need.  If dealer is not able to help you then find on eBay or FB someone who can read the code.

I re-installed the firmware using the image created by @pab567 over the weekend and the HU is now back to behaving normally again.

Good afternoon guys

Just wanted to ask if you know anybody who can repair columbus 2.5 (9 inch)

Mine has uneven backlight and half of screen has ghost marks , I mean contour of previous pictures displayed on the screen. I'm not sure if the screen has to be replaced or that's other issue. The original part code is 3V0 919 606 D. Cheers for any help.

Peter

A few members have had repairs carried out by me over the past few months so I thought it'd be better to post in here. I repair and /or sell Columbus units (and the VW version RNS510) in my spare time. Possible repairs start at security code retrieval, through software re-installs and upgrades, to component replacement such as hard drives, radio boards, dvd drives, replacement touchscreens, etc. and complete replacement units if beyond repair.

So if your Columbus has a fault, screen been damaged by some means, sat nav lost its way, or any such issue, drop me a message and it's possibly fixable.

You'll need to get the unit to me in North Yorks obviously, and postage both ways will be your cost. If it's beyond economic repair or you decide not to go ahead with any repairs once diagnosed, then just return postage and a small charge for diagnostics will apply.  If you're local then you're welcome to drop in and collect etc. at mutual convenience (don't forget, we have real lives to live as well as work).

I aim to be as cheap as possible really and all prices are based on what it costs me and my time . It's a service for Briskoda members only, and as a bonus I'll offer discounts for full Freedom members. Simply join Freedom and the discount will be applicable. Common faults are damaged or scratched screens, satellites not found, no sound, boot errors (unit rebooting or failure to start, white or black screen), dvd drive failed or noisy, complete failure (no activity at all), and software problems.

Not all faults are repairable, and the largest number of faults I deal with are failed software updates (second to damaged screens). If you've tried updating your unit and it's dead, then it may be that you've made yourself a paperweight or a door stop.

Please note, the earlier LCD units are not something I repair or deal with I'm afraid. Spare parts availability (or lack of), and the fragile nature of the units means it's not practical to repair them.

All Columbus units are now shipping with V16 maps installed.

I can now also replace touchscreen displays from the MIB Amundsen and Columbus units.

Hi Rustynuts,

I have a Columbus RNS510 from a 2011 Skoda Superb.  It developed the proverbial reboot loop a few months back.  So I replaced the hard disk with a SSD and upgraded the firmware and maps.  However it now intermittently switches off either rebooting immediately or remaining off for varying lengths of time and then rebooting.  I have read online that this may be related to the power supply or mainboard.

Would you be able to help?

Cheers,

Mark.

Hello! I have the same unit with no 3T0 035 680 C. I’m looking for a replacement unit for my superb with sound system. Do I need the exact same no on the replacement or could I use like an 3T0 035 680 K? Is it just a new revision or a different not compatible unit?

As RustyNuts' nuts seemed to have permanently seized I found and used another chap that can repair the Columbus and other models:-

 https://navitex.co.uk/repair-service/skoda-columbus-rns510-sat-nav-repair-service/

Andrei fixed my unit within a day and shipped it back to me the next.  All problems have been resolved and he is highly recommended.

Thanks for the suggestion. If I was in the UK I would definitely go through Andrei. I’m in Sweden though.

what causes these head units to crash in the first place?

Data/software corruption on the HDD usually but also component failure on the main board.

Hi. The screen on my 2017 Superb has corrupted. Details in this thread. Is this something you would be willing to look at @Rustynuts?
