  • This should give you an idea if what to expect fuel economy wise from a TFSI.

  • There is a guy here selling an 09 VRS LE for £4100 if you could get to the Liverpool or Stranraer docks I'm sure would deliver, https://www.gumtree.com/p/skoda/2009-skoda-octavia-vrs-limited-edition-t

I'd agree with the comment on keeping your superb 130tdi.

Given the work you have had done on it and what problems you may get with this Octavia.

Its clear your undecided and there's already been enough on here and to put me off already.

Overpriced. Needs work.

Claims to have heated seats in the eBay ad but don't see them. Unless they are aftermarket maybe. Just yet another issue.

Maybe I will keep the superb , but I would really like a Octavia vrs , might just be a case of waiting till one with FSH comes along and proof of work done .

Its always a risk when changing car tho

So is there no vrs model with heated and electric seats ? Or electric rear windows ? Or electric folding wind mirrors?

Further to my reply on one of your threads, I would think long and hard at buying, what I know to be a ( I'm guessing here on the appearance and condition in the photo and you comments ) cat d car that's just be done, the buyer would have payed well less than 50% of the selling price quite likely nearer £1000 so that's a big mark up

lets be honest unless your superb is going to need a lot of money to get it through its next mot which needs to be less than 3 months away, you really would be better off keeping the devil you know

or to put it another way buy this other car, and a far better ' deal ' and car will come up that's a stone plonk certainty

Yea I am going to leave this one , now I just need to know what engine is the better one in the Octavia vrs ??

Also whether or not they did a full electric pack in the Octavia vrs , everyone I've looked at so far only has front electric windows and manual seats !!

I like the superb interior and engine I just wish they worked harder on the looks lol

Other option is put money into this and get it looking the same as this

Without wish to offend any Octavia owner ( let's be fair I am one myself ) the Superb is the next step up so you'd expect the whole 9 yards in one !!

I can't remember reading much about you current car but age and condition pending, along with how long you would be happy to keep it, how about a re-map, let's be brutally honest any VRS is really all about the badge, perceived speed and in certain areas with certain type of driver a police car magnet

I've got a 2003 superb at the min , 1.9 PD 130 ,  its had all new brakes all round within the last year new cambelt kit + water pump done at vw and just put a new cat on it .

Would I notice the greater fuel cost coming from my superb to

2.0tfsi Octavia?

Ah, I just re-read the whole thread, I'd say unless you have know faults or poor body work the Superb ought to be a keeper, you ain't going to be losing a shed load of money and let's be honest the value of it subtracted from the quoted VRS is an awful lots of weeks fuel at £20 a week !!

Or this car has been   , Very Ragged Sorry , lol my car is mechanically very good condition full main dealership service history , I had the cambelt + water pump done last year bolton VW , ive done the long life oil and all filters , all new brakes , and everything works, every button .

Just had a new cat put on it.

The only what's happening at the minute is when I come to a stop there is 2 clunking noises as I brake near as I stop. But not over bumps or when I'm driving at faster speeds.

My get some deep dish staggerd alloys for it with stretch tyres and get the few scratches painted , and some coilovers :)

By the or this car has been , Very Ragged Sorry , I mean the vrs badge on Octavia

Sounds like you've got a decent car there, FSkodaSH and the work done all add up to less to go wrong, as you say the Vrs could be a right puppy, would it not be worth getting the garage to look at the knocks anything else would be guess work, could be a ball-joint or two if you are going to ' modify ' theses would need looking at, me I'd be inclined to keep it stock and honest

A do-everything service at a main dealer plus a cam belt and water pump should set you back about £600. I had my cam belt done by the independent garage I got mine from (similar age) and I kind of wish I hadn't. According to my main dealer, they didn't use a genuine Skoda belt so that nagging fear that it may not be kosher is going to be there until it's done next. I'd recommend a full dealer service (about £269) as that will get everything that might need changing done and all the work recorded on the Skoda system. That's what I did.

If you were expecting more from the performance that could be a good thing. It could well mean it hasn't been messed with and ragged. I would definitely recommend a stage 1. I love the power delivery from mine.

I have a 2007 petrol Octavia vRS. I was commenting on the talk earlier about the absent service history because the "guy was a mechanic." That being said, my car allegedly came from a GP and I didn't know that was a possible warning sign.

Wrong car year! Typo.

So has yours got service history , what age and how many miles has it done ?

How much does it cost you in fuel a week?

It has one dealer stamp when it was new, a whole pile of random independent stamps, all at different places, from the last owner and a full dealer stamp from when I took it into Garland Aldershot after I got it.

It had 92k on it when I got it last April and I've done 10k on it this year so around 102k now. It's an 07 plate.

My mileage is irregular as I have several jobs and go to most of them on the train as driving in London isn't nice so I can't give a weekly cost but I get about 375 miles from a full tank of BP Ultimate 97.

How much fills the tank ?

Have you ever had trouble with the feared carbon build up on the valves ? And are there any tell tale signs what I could look for before buying , not just this particular one but any 2.0 tfsi model?

This was cold when I started it , he hadn't pre ran the engine .

It started first time , no juddering sounded nice and quite drove smooth no issues with any aspect of driving the vehicle , the wheel was straight no pulling when let go of the steering wheel.

No smoke out of the exhaust , air con working .

Logically it would make sense to keep my superb considering I know its mechanically sound , but that being said its not out of love , just sensibility.

And it has a deep dented scratch on o/s rear wing and a lot of scratches through the paint on the rear bumper which needs doing , also has a long dent in the lower n/s door but you have to get close to it to see that .

And if was to keep it I need to lower it and put some nice alloys on it ,

So it would probably cost £300 for the paintwork , + £600 + £350 , approx for coilovers fitted .

So around £1250 of work to make it nice and gleaming .

But if I get a vrs for £3000 or under then sell mine for around £1200 ,

Then it don't seem as bad .

Maybe £1200 for your car ( how long is the mot and how many miles, what's your location ) may be realistic it would be maybe compromised by the scratches, you have stayed how clean the Vrs appears as with many things in life the look of something often allows the heart to overrule the head

by all means keep looking to replace the Superb, but IMO to get best money for it it should stay standard, you'll never get back you outlay come resale time

  • Author

No I won't don't any work on the superb if I decide I don't want to keep it , its done 121500 miles , the 1.9 TDI PD 130 , elegance , in the beige/ light gold colour .

Your superb has one of the more sought after Diesel engines. Very reliable if looked after properly and no dpf worries.

How long have you had it and how many miles have you put on it?

  • Author

I've had it a year  , I've put 20000 miles on it I think , I can't remember the exact miles when I bought it .

I know I went for this engine over one with the v6 diesel

  • Author

Is there a Octavia vrs with the 1.9 TDI 130 PD ?

Nope. There's a mk1 with the tdi Pd 130 but not a mk2.

  • Author

Don't there 2.0 TDI 's have , a problem with something cracking on the engine ? Something like the engine block , or cylinder head or something ? I know I've heard sumat along the line.

Or are the 2.0 TDI engine in the mk2 better than the 1.9 PD 130 awx engine?
