Also regards of the original Octavia what this thread was about , is they any way of checking the details of the cat D ?

Like date , what was repaired on it etc etc , why did the service history stop at near only 20000 miles , im thinking was it in a crash then and the owner got a new car , then it was fixed and sold to the previous owner who's had it the last 9 years but they did get it serviced at a garage because they got the car for cheap anyway ?? Maybe a possibility..

  • This should give you an idea if what to expect fuel economy wise from a TFSI.

  • There is a guy here selling an 09 VRS LE for £4100 if you could get to the Liverpool or Stranraer docks I'm sure would deliver, https://www.gumtree.com/p/skoda/2009-skoda-octavia-vrs-limited-edition-t

Did you look at the MOT History?

google

dvla mot history

you will see the site.

What does 9 years ago matter or even 3 years ago, buy on condition now and forget stories of Mechanic or Technician or Fitters as past owners,

think of some rubbish work Main Dealer Technicians do.

I would not have a seller do a MOT, best ask if you can pay to have a car MOT'd at a place of your choice and if it fails you will just pay the test and walk.

Many Traders / Dealers have favoured Testers so a new MOT might be proof of nothing.

Yea I know a seller will just get it passed (wink) for the sale ,

If I got him to do it a mot centre of my choice , would the emissions test show if it had bad carbon build up which these engines are known for?

I've checked all the previous mot s on .gov , they all seem good just minor fails and advisory's really in between all the passes .

You should see my mot history on my car lol the last one was bad , but I did get it done a national tyres , don't ask cos I don't know what I was thinking they'd fail it on out there money grabbing vultures!

What I was getting at by saying maybe it was in a accident just after the 2nd service and moved on to another owner is that maybe the 2nd owner didnt see the point in paying for service stamps and just did the oil changes etc himself cos he didn't see the value being held by the stamps because he bought it as a cat D ..

Actually I've just checked the mot history and its passed every time since 2010 , it won't let me go any further back .

Isn't it a 2007 car?

First mot 2010.

Yea oops I forgot it don't have it first mot till 3 years

Well its passed every mot then ..

Edited by malibu200786

It had done near 28,000 miles by the first MOT in 2010.

When was it declared a Cat D by the insurance?

If you are in so much doubt you had best walk, or if you want to buy have someone you trust in look it over.

How long has this trader had the car?

That's what I wanted to see if the was a way to find out when the cat D was ..

I am in doubt , because of the service history and it being a cat D . and I've worked on cars for 10 years not anymore though got out of the trade 3 years ago.

But I've looked at a couple now and this one still is the cleanest , one diesel I went looking at was a right mess , and the engine was juddering lol .

Maybe I'll will look for the diesel vrs instead , because its better mpg and can get the remapped to have better bhp and mpg makes sense really..

But what about the 2.0 TDI engines in the mk2 Octavia VS the 1.9 TDI PD 130 engine I've currently got ??

Why not have a map done on your Superb?

Better the devil you know. IMO.

This is the options list for early 2007 models.

18" wheels and the Jumbo Box/rear electrics/Climate became a free upgrade from around mid 2007, then std equipment by 2008

Looks like the one the thread started on is a early 2007 because its got all of them minus the parking sensors and rear electric windows minus sunroof .

Thanks for the info

Personelly I'd chuck the car through a major service, all the bodyley fluids changed and get all the belts and timeing chain or belt (Depending on what engine you've got) for piece of mind!

Could I not put my engine in the Octavia ?

Avoid the diesel, the early vRS came with the PD170 engine which had significant issues with it's marriage to the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter).

Any fuel savings on the diesel can very quickly wiped out with a DPF replacement / removal.

The PD170 was replaced with the much more reliable CR170 (Common Rail) sometime in 2008...

I thought PD engines where the better engines ? I have the 1.9 PD 130 awx engine in my superb.

So by dpf removal do you mean a bypass with a remap?

If I'm putting in £25 a week in at minute in my superb

Does that mean I'll be putting in £40 in a 2.0 tfsi petrol ?

Depends which pd.

the 1.9 are known as very reliable. Especially the 130.

The 2.0 Pd not as reliable. Even less so with the dpf.

The 2.0 cr is better than the 2.0 Pd. Although it still has a dpf it's more suited to the engine and therefore more reliable.

it also depends on who you speak to as I'm sure there are loads of 2.0 Pd dpf owners who have no issues.

Is this about the correct price ?

CAT C this time.  Are you specifically looking for a CAT C or D repaired vehicle? I think too much £ still, what is wrong with the lower mileage 100k-130K mile motors on Autotrader, not CAT C/D and with full service history and cambelt changes for similar money?
