Bloody hell Sasha... those are some amazing mods you've done recently. I think the rear cam is my next project... that should stop me doing the virtual cockpit one, for a while anyway :D
Great job, as always!

Haha thanks :) The next mod is coming in a few weeks, 310mm rear brakes. Callipers from an S3 8P are on their way, new Brembo discs are ready for collection tomorrow as are the correct 310mm disc backplates from a 245. Longer hoses and otherwise new hardware has been ordered, just got to decide on brake pads now but I’ll wait until the callipers get here to do that as I want to make sure I get the right ones! Callipers will need a refurb and a coat of red paint before fitting and then I hope the brake bias will feel more neutral and the car won’t nose dive so hard under braking! Also got 15mm rear spacers on order too :)

I'm in the process of renewing my car insurance. Under the section where it says 'has the car been modified from manufacturer's specification' I ticked the 'NO' box.

Just wondering how long it takes Sasha to complete her insurance quotes?  :giggle:

Is there a way to get Google Maps from my Android Phone on the the Amundsen MIB2, without using Skodas Smart Link or what ever its called?

No sadly not, it is The Android Auto protocol that allows that to happen.

Lol, it takes ages haha, it’s much easier to phone them, even including being on hold. Explaining the virtual cockpit was interesting but I’ve switched providers this year to someone who is better suited to insure modified cars. I’ve sent photos and all sorted as well as a link to this thread and agreed a value. I also refinanced the car with a more favourable bank loan as I’m in it for the long run with this car so I’m the legal owner now and it’s not on HP so there are no issues there either. Interest rate is lower and I have an extra year to pay for it should I wish to, but I’m saving the extra every month between what I did pay and what I now pay to pay off some extra every so often.

Not practically. I guess a  Raspberry Pi could do it, but they are considerably more expensive than the £137 SmartLink activation cost. It’s worth it IMO. I stream a lot of content in the car now from podcasts to audiobooks to music and the fine if caught holding a phone when changing between content is far more than the cost to have the SmartLink activated.

@SashaGrace and anyone else who has done the reverse camera, do you know the minimum requirements for the camera? I have mib1 Amundsen that I may upgrade to the alpine or pioneer unit at some point. Assuming the <£20 cams will suit any of those?

Check what Alpine and Pioneer say. The Skoda unit takes NTSC cameras only, not PAL. Alpine and Pioneer may be different so you are best to check with them :)

A Raspberry PI? how would that be used?, also arent they like £30 to buy?

To get the radio to run the module would be £££ as it needs to be worked on to get a new input to the screen.

Ah ok does the sat nav installed in the Amundsen MIB2 have live traffic updates?

  • Author

Yes, but via FM TMC so nothing like Google Maps. I never find the Traffic feature to be of any use to me as it just doesn’t detect local to me traffic.

My Facelift car with Amundsen (I guess MIB 2.5?) came with proper live traffic as part of Skoda Connect. I didn't extend it though as I find Google/Apple/Waze are much better and Skoda only offer all the services together at a price that I didn't feel was worth it. At the moment I'm using Google as the satellite view looks awesome.

I used to use the TomTom app on my iPhone in a cradle in my old car, recently both my dad and brother with their external TomTom devices beat me on a run around rush hour Manchester I'm planning on using the TomTom app again once that's publicly available on CarPlay. At least for any proper distance / rush hour driving, working from home I don't do much of that though.

One of the reasons that Briskoda is so amiable is due to the laid-back approach we take to moderation.

However, unknowingly or knowingly breaking the Rules will lead to intervention which is what happened here.

From your own personal experience, I thought you'd realise that! :tongueout:

Ah I don't mind really. I think the last time I signed in I couldn't remember my password so just clicked on the Facebook link, which obviously just created me a new account! If anything @john999boy did me a favour, now I only have to remember one :D

@SashaGrace would you recommend the rear camera upgrade, was it much of a faff? I've actually managed to lose the rear indicator display when I swapped the radio over (something I forgot to check before saying no need for a recode to Pawel - my fault) and i'm thinking this might be a good excuse to fix it!

PM me your new password so when you forget it I can remind you so that you are not moderated again. Plan B just write your Briskoda password down somewhere for future use/abuse (not me promise, moderated too many times already).

Yes I would :) If you are missing the parking sensor display then you’ll need to code the adaptation back. I’ll send you a scan of my 5F module if you like which will have the adaptation in there somewhere for the park sensor display.

That'd be lovely thank you! I'll have to have a read through your thread now and work out what I need for the camera :nerd:

is there any difference between setting the light at 100 and 127 ? Cant really see anything or ...maybe Im noy doing it right :D Also do you think its necessary to code a light to be "LED" type, if the led bulb we put it is cancubs and doesnt cause any errors on the dash ?

LED’s should be 127% and normal bulbs 100%

The parts gathering has begun!!! Next job is to decide on which pads to go for on the rear and then get the callipers cleaned up and painted red. Also need to get another disc shield which is on back order and should be in tomorrow. These discs are huge!! Can’t wait to get them fitted. Also got 15mm spacers for the rear to improve the look :)
