Sasha’s Octavia vRS

Well that RVC camera installation didn't go quite as planned it's in and working but ran out of time light and patience to finish putting the trim back in. Getting the yellow plug through the bellows to the tailgate is a pig off a job but once I have it a spray of dashboard cleaner to lubricate it came through ok. Then the fun bit went to do the power connection from the wiper motor and the power lead supplied with the camera is very low gauge and brakes very easily then the purple power wire came out of the plug and the wire broke so far down I had to use one of the connectors that I got to fit into the back of the mib luckily this worked with a bit of persuasion. So now I just need to hope I can remember how all the trim goes back

Haha, sounds like fun!! The trim is quite easy to put back. Glad it’s worked for you :)

Seems to be a day for fitting reverse cameras, I fitted mine today, and it took most of the day, running the cable wasn't to though as I cut off one end RCA plug then ran the cable from the back to the front, then use the fancy crimping tool from work to crimp the ends on before scratching my head for what seemed like an age. I couldn't fathom how to get the little crimp connectors into the blue block, eventually the penny dropped and I was done.

A big thank you to Sasha for the inspiration to fit reverse camera  even though I got one that bolted in place, soon overcame that with a couple of pieces of flat ally bar bent into shape to make brackets. :D

Mine has threads on it, but it clips on place just fine :) I highly recommend running the cable from the back to the front! Should have mentioned that earlier.

Sasha so Ive looked it up, what was causing my Sidelights to lit up with drls.
Its this option:

"(6)-Daytime running lights-Tagfahrlicht-Dauerfahrlicht aktiviert zusaetzlich Standlicht - change to active

This will enable parking lights (sidelights, rear lights, number plate lights and dash illumination)"

I see! Interesting. All this reminds me I need to code my sidelights back on before the MoT! I had a LED go so I turned them off for a quick fix.

That’s really interesting! Yes it is exactly the same as a Maxidot otherwise.

The unit in the glovebox is the radio. The screen is just a screen. The MIB1 Bolero and Amundsen runs a 240x400 resolution so it’s stuck with a 5.8 inch screen. The MIB2’s have a 480x800 resolution so can run 8 inch screens. You will need a 5Q0035874A Amundsen MIB2 and a 5Q0035726E USB. Screen wise it is up to you with 3 options, original 6.5 inch (5E0919605J), 8 inch PFL Columbus (5E0919606) ot 8 inch glass FL Amundsen (5E0919605M) :) Component Protection must be removed from the radio and then the radio must be coded to work in the car.

Hi Sasha,

Columbus MIB 2 3V0035020 unlocked, plus original display 5E0919606.

Would that fit my 2015 Octavia VRS?

Thanks for your help!

It should. What is your current infotianment unit? Do you have player in gloves box?

Currently it is the factory fitted Bolero with CD and SD reader in the glove box.

This is what I would like to replace with the aforementioned Columbus unit.

As above, pab567 is the man to talk to with radios and yes that setup should fit. You also need the USB 5Q0035726E :)

Thanks for the response folks. Just ordered these from Aliexpress from the link in Sasha's original post.

I received the LED boot lights ordered via Aliexpress today. Delivery time was 11 days from date of order.

Just replaced the oem incandescent units with the LED ones and the difference is like night and day! Don't know why I didn't do this earlier!

Thanks for the tips folks!!!

Could you provide the link, I fancy giving this a go too

Hi Dezmonde, these are the ones I ordered for the boot. They are the same ones discussed by the others earlier in this forum topic. Delivery was in 11 days after placing the order on Aliexpress.

After seeing the difference of LEDs in the boot I'm now changing the interior lights to LEDs. Ordering the following Osram LED bulbs from Amazon for the interior.

So I've been trying out this "traffic sign recognition" and I have a question.
Does it show you the speeds like "5mph" ? What I mean is I think it is just taking the data from the sat nav and not using the actual camera. How can I find out ?
For example when I enter some shopping lot, and the speeds there are clearly marked as "5" in the red circle, it doesn't show me that on the maxidot screen but rather something like "20" (the same as it shows in the columbus sat nav).

Any thoughts ?

The TSR definitely uses the camera, but it doesn’t go down to 5 mph. It only goes down to 10. I know it uses the camera because mine isn’t talking to the nav system so it’s all going off the camera. If you really want to, set the road sign detection to camera only rather than fusion and you’ll see. The function restriction warning may come on though.

Thanks :) They are just the stick on ones, couldn't justify the spend to replace the paddles. They were about £6.50 and I have not been disappointed. They are much more expensive feeling than the price suggests.

So I've been having a look around, you don't happen to know what other vag the octi gets it's dsg paddles from if I was to say change them for extended ones that fully replace the plastic paddles

Golf 6 and Scirocco :)

Yes, I wouldn’t like to say if they if they would fit or not as they are for a Golf 7. I’ve seen someone replace them recently, I’ll check what set they had now.

+1 on this, definitely uses the camera. The signs above smart motorways confirm this works very well.

I'm sure it's even shown 50 after passing those old style orange LED gantry boards too despite it not resembling a circular red bordered speed sign.

your fitted reversing camera wires i am trying to fit one to my vrs got to the part of connecting the front wires to satnav unit i know where the video wires go but whers does the power wire ahd reverse switch wire go

  • Author

You don’t need the reverse switch, the radio coding sorts that out for you. The power wires can be tapped into the rear wiper plug. Positive to purple (pin 4) and negative to brown (pin 1) or ground :)

Sasha thank you for your reply i ave the camara fitted and powered but the camera rca cable needs to connect to head unit  i have the Amundsen head unit  i think the wires from RCA go in to back of sat nav BLUE plug pins 6 and 12 but no video on head unit  the rvc has been coded with Ross-Tech VCDS sortware .But a think there should be another wire conneced for when you go in reverse in activates camera.

  • Author

That should be everything, reverse wire is not needed. Do you have rear parking sensors? Do they work? What coding adjustments have been done?
