Goodyear F1 Assymetric 3

Featured Replies

Finally had enough of the increasing low speed drone from the original rear Potenzas after 28000 miles and replaced them with Goodyear F1 this morning, to match the fronts.  This has resulted in a really noticeable overall drop in noise. Common sense really, if you want longer-lasting harder tyres they will probably make more noise. Interestingly, my MkII suffered from rear tyre feathering on the inner edges and droned after about 18-20000 miles. The MkIII has had the opposite wear pattern, they were down to about 2mm on the outer edge and looked worn in comparison to the rest of the tyre, which had about 4-5mm on the inner edge.

Good to know. These will be my next tyres.

Yep, getting these Monday. Good vfm. £137 a corner and £20 gift card from Goodyear till end April.

Where are you all getting your prices? Black circles have them 98 quid a corner fitted.

Depends on your wheel size

That's 18", some of the higher prices are for 19". They used to be about a tenner less but have creeped up in the past few months.

Personally I think the Michelin PS4 at £105 is a better shout. There's a discount code knocking a further £15 off two, bringing it to a very similar price to the AS3.

Dunno about the PS4 but, the PS4S are very noisy. but, oh so Fn good

Kinda depends what you want I suppose, last quiet tyre I brought were Michelin Crossclimates, very good summer grip too. If you're not going for outright performance, I'd say the CC's are a very good choice

Apologies, yes the prices I was looking at were for the 18's.

Yep, mine are 19's. Going for the factory 225 otherwise needs to be declared as a modification on the insurance. £137 is the cheapest price I could get anywhere on the Assy 3 and I've searched everywhere!

I have mkI Superb and last month I was considering buying this tires.

Acctually I have choose to buy Sava UHP2 wich is Goodyear brand, like VW and Skoda, and I can tell that for that price they are great!

I would buy  them again, they are not noisie, great handling on rain, on dry, really satisfied!

Sorry for my bad english, I just wanted to share with some of you my experiance.

So if you want to save some quid, you know what to do...cheers

£76.85 a corner on camskill

Then just get a local tyre fitter to fit them would cost no more than £15 per corner to fit?

Because even the best tyre fitter wouldn't be able to stretch them an extra inch over a bigger rim

That’s true :D but regardless of 18 or 19 inch tyres, I find Camskill to be decently priced, even if you pay a local tyre fitter to fit them from £12-£15 per corner, you still save a few quid!

Around 3 years ago I purchased Nokian weatherproof tyres 225x40x18 for £360 delivered, then payed my local tyre fitter £40 to fit them, all balanced etc, & compared to actual places suppling & fitting them for nearly £120-£130 a corner, I actually saved a pretty packet.

See how much Camskill charge for 19 inch version of F13’s, they seem cheaper than other places but as long as the tyre fitter you use charges within reason.

These potenzas need outlawing as they don't have any grip, don't give you a feel of the road and are more suited to endurance driving. I've done 5000 miles on mine and they look the same as they did on the day I picked up the car, despite some spirited driving every so often. I know they're summer tyres, but even a spot of rain induces wheelspin and understeer.

I was happy when I saw my VRS with potenzas and thought they would be good, as I've had bridgestone tyres on my motorbikes and was happy with them.

However, I'm putting a few quid aside to get mine replaced when I'm able to drive again as I think they're the worst tyres I've ever had on a car. Or a van. Or a motorbike. Or a push bike!!!!!

Out of a bit of desperation on my last car (hyundai i20), I put a set of Nexen Cp641's on and wasn't expecting much, but they were a cracking set of tyres, especially in the wet.

Dunlop SportMax RT2. Brilliant tyres. Much less noise than the Bridgestones. Good grip in the wet or dry. Great round the Nurburgring. I have done 25 laps and they still look fine.

It's all relative. £20 a tyre less than I've been quoted fitted....take into account waiting for delivery, taking them to the fitters, paying £15+ a corner for disposal, new fitting a balancing. Also I get £20 per tyre amazon gift card when supplied and fitted by an authorised Goodyear dealer....

mine were the opposite, i have some nasty camber on both rears that caused sawtoothing, the noise was worse than a bearing out at a certain speed. I too fitted F1s and got a four wheel align, problem solved. Ive found the F1s to be much better in the wet having lost the rear end on a few roundabouts in the skoda fitted rubber (Kuhmo /sp) could just have been due to the uneven wear of course

Yours is exactly the wear I expected on mine, so rather surprised that the outer edges rather than the inners went. I thought Kumho Ecsta on my MkII were ok in the dry but not great in the wet. I did kart racing and use a motorcycle so I respect wet corners, particularly diesel-sodden roundabouts. I haven't asked too much of the F1s and don't expect too much of a standard car, just that it goes around public road corners at reasonable speeds dry or wet. The primary aim of silencing the 20-30 Mph drone has been achieved and they should put down the extra power safely on a dry road...once rolling of course.

Just ordered two F1s for the front (rear tyres still have a bit of life in them) 125 euro per tyre inc fitting . tracking etc.

Strange this should come up now, because I have also replaced mine with a full set of Assymetric 3's. I ordered the extra load tyres. Set of 4 fitted and balanced at Micheldever tyres in the South was £447.

They are miles better than the Bridgestones they replaced in my opinion. Quieter as the OP says, plus prodigious wet grip. I have a large roundabout near me and after I had them fitted I spent a good 10 minutes circulating the roundabout, in the pi$$ing rain, giggling like a child about how they gripped. I don't think I have had a car in the past that grips like this round this roundabout - even in the dry!!!

I also had a full 4 wheel alignment done on a Hunter machine at an alignment specialist in Southampton, at the same time. Well worth doing, All in all, a transformed car and I am very happy.

I replaced a full set of Potenzas with F1's last summer and have been very pleased with them. I had to replace one front tyre after a puncture a couple of weeks back and the cost, all in, from local dealer ETS was £102 (18" rim). The wet grip from the F1's is very good indeed but it's worth pointing out that new tyres need a bit of running in - I was (only momentarily) caught out when I forgot this exiting a roundabout; the new tyre lost traction and I had to throttle down a bit to let it catch up. Fortunately this was in the dry so there was no loss of directional control - I'm not sure how it would have gone on a wet road surface.

There seems to be quite a difference between what people have paid for their Goodyear Asymmetric 3 tyres.

I paid £352 for all four fitted in January this year. Wheels are 225/40/18

I was 350 - something as well in February for a set of 4, (225/40./18) ordered online (blackcircles)  and booked in advance into a local tyre place for fitting.

There was an offer on to save £25 if 4 tyres were bought together. I think they were 95-96 each before the discount

then, a week later thanks to a pothole, I shelled out 110ish  (IIRC) for a "right here, right now" replacement at National once I eventually found somewhere that had them in stock. (Kwikfit were asking 125 each)
