For some reason, VW maps show as one version newer on my car. This one is allegedly ECE AS 2020/2021. I’m assuming Skoda is using 0-based indexing while VW is using 1-based when encoding the version. :)

These eurozone maps are getting huge, and the next update is supposedly too big for the available space on a pukka 16Gb card, so is there a reliable source of official 32Gb cards - at a less than eye watering $tealer price?

Should couple with home broadband when parked outside.  Also should pause when you drive away and then resume downloading when you park up again if it has not already finished. That would be simply clever😶

I have completed mine also, no issues.

All went well... 0079 ROW 2019/2020 (Australia)

Can I ask where you downloaded the ROW maps from. When I try there seems to be no distinction. This might be why my update continually fails? I have tried the Skoda and the VW versions.

@GWCTas

last one is 'P84', page 6.

Unfortunately the link on page 6 is broken and comes up with an error ("not found on this server"). As suggested by Skoda Australia, I have tried to download from the VW portal using "DiscoverCare" but after a few hours it is at 15% of 23.9gb and still 14hrs to go!. I don't have superfast internet but still around 33mbps should have it downloading quicker than that. It didn't take that long to download the other files directly.

Any other help is appreciated as I'm glad the car performs better than the VW/Skoda websites.

Thanks, that file (P85) is now downloading. DiscoverCare download referenced in my previous post was only at 24% when I got up this morning!

U have a Columbus - u should b getting the DiscoverPro maps.

When the Skoda Update Portal plays up, I get the VW Passat DiscoverPro maps from the VW Portal.

No issues.  Works everytime.

The download will take a long time - it doesn't matter wat internet speed u have.  It's their server that caps the upload speed.

Will take half to a full day.  Be patient.

But get the right maps to start with.

P85 file downloaded in about 2 hours (23gb). I have unzipped to my SD card. Is it correct the the files in the root directory are as below i.e. both MIB1 and MIB2 are included?

Root: P79_N60S5MIBH3_ROW>metainfo2.txt

Sub Folders: Mib1 & Mib2

@JR RS, Thank you for your input and help. I understood that the file reference that @MartiniB referred me to were the Columbus maps? Yes I understand that the speed can be capped by the upload server, hence my comment that the car performs better than the VW/Skoda websites. The download started yesterday and was only at 24% this morning - by that reckoning it may be more like 2 days to download?

I'm not having any luck. Error message again when I try to update. SD card is formatted FAT32 and cleaned using CleanMyDrive.

Any clues as to where I'm going wrong?

I'm fairly sure that the files should be in the root of your SD card rather than in the P85_xxx folder so root: metainfo2.txt etc.

It looks like you just used Windows Explorer to unzip the zip file and it created a folder with the same name as the zip file. You don't want the folder, just it's contents.

Macs are a bit more problemetic as they put some 'hidden' files on the card which confuses the head unit

@unclerichyI wondered about the folder structure and now you have answered that, Thank you. I actually used a few unzip utilities and all created the P85 folder. I'll do what you suggest.

@MartiniB Yes I am on a Mac. I had read about potential issues but then elsewhere on this thread I recalled seeing that Mac's were okay, if you used CleanMyDrive. I have a VM of Windows on my Mac so i can try that.

Gents, I'll try both in the morning as it's now after 11pm here in Tasmania.

i had this error on mine when trying to update

but think i got a way around it.   i downloaded the new maps and extracted them to the Original Skoda card,   when i check the version information it has the new maps, so seems to be working,  however when i select update sd/usb i get the same messages as above,

so i am assuming the the maps are upto date  due to the version info

The system will keep "updating" as long as there is valid maps on the SD-Card.

It doesn't check to see if the maps on the sd-card is older, same or newer.

it will just update again.

The error is simply because the system doesn't recognise or like the folder structure.

I have tried again this morning using the revised folder structure with metainfo2.txt, Mib1 & Mib2 in the root of the SD card. As the system booted, the Columbus came up with a message "map updates available". The "searching for updates" but finally the error message again. 😟I examined the metainfo2.txt file in Mib1 & Mib2 folders and both reference Audi. Maybe the files are wrong but I followed the link given by @MartiniB?

Also, I notice after I remove the card from the car, the root also contains a file WMPinfo.xml?

I appreciate your help and patience but this is driving me mad.

I just checked the download that I had done previously from the Skoda portal (HIGH12_P79_MRM_201920) and it too had the same reference to "Audi components". The P79 was created in January 2019. P85 was created August 2019.
