Hey Zaphod (love the extra head :) )
On my system, the amundsen, I HAVE to enter the space, (another example of inept programming).
Good luck.

  • If, and only if, you have an Amundsen MIB2 Satnav, with a 14.8 GByte SD Card, then the procedure to update it with the 2018/2019 maps is as follows -    Download link   http://infotainment-c

  • Reformatting the card will not (absolutely will not) remove the data required by your sat nav to allow the card to work. You do not need to "Update" the unit with the new data on the SD card.

  • If you’re worried about formatting the card, just delete the ‘maps’ folder then replace it by unzipping the new download. It probably takes longer to delete the folder than to format the card but you

Interesting that it said 'Forest Road'.   It should be Woodhouse Road (my post of a few mins ago said Woodhouse Lane).

Google maps puts it in Forest Road too.

Link.

Hmm ... this gets more and more curious.

Forest Road, Quorn is close to, and runs parallel to, Woodhouse Road in the region of Quorn & Woodhouse Station (as an aside the Butler Henderson Cafe also lists their postcode as LE12 8AG which would put them on Forest Road - and you can't access the cafe from Forset Road.  Must make if fun for delivery drivers!  However I digress ...)

Just typed in LE12 8AG and LE128AG into my updated nav and got the 'No results' message.  Tried LE12 8AJ and LE128AJ for a property called Station House just a short distance from Quorn & Woodhouse Station and got the 'No results' message.  Tried both LE12 8AL and LE128AL into my nav (for The Manor House, Woodhouse Road - on the opposite side of the road from Quorn & Woodhouse Station and got, you guessed it, 'No results'.

All of these postcodes can be found from the Royal Mail's Postcode Finder (save for the first LE12 8AG which is on the GCR website

Typing in Woodhouse Road, Quorn and the number 84 the nav is quite happy and finds the location.

FYI Maps version:

5L0051236AH

1030

ECE1 2018/19

SHIELD: SHIELD 2016-03 (build 020)

I'm a VERY puzzled bunny!

Now off to try some other postcodes to see what happens.

If any of you can shed any light / offer any fixes, I'd be most grateful.

Otherwise, a trip to my Skoda dealer I think to put it to them that the nav unit is not fit for purpose as it does not find postcodes when entered into the unit.

Watch this space.

Didn't HERE maps start a program to report map issues?

I think you would have more success talking to them...

Thanks Jaco2k.
An internet link or some form of address would be useful.

Do HERE maps have anything to do with the mapping that Skoda (VAG) use?

I know that HERE is majority-owned by a consortium of German automotive companies (BMW / Audi / Daimler AG) but I thought the mapping data used by our nav units was provided by TomTom?

The maps on the Audi RNS-E are definitely provided by HERE, so there's a good likelihood that other VAG maps are also provided by HERE.

Yes - for instance for my Seat (that has the same MIB2 unit as in the Skoda) The maps are downloaded directly via the HERE maps portal.

Thanks "Jaco2k".

I have sent a contact form to HERE to see if they are involved with this issue.

  • 4 weeks later...

Okay,

So around 4 weeks after updating the Skoda SD card to the 2018/19 maps, my unit tonight had the "Checking Navigation Data" message for ages - seemingly doing nothing.

Switched unit off, ejected card, checked that read/write switch was set to 'Lock' (it was) put the card back in, switched on and all I get is a completely blue screen - no map.

So am trying the re-format/ re-load maps option before I scream (going on holiday somewhere unfamiliar in 4 days time and there's a weekend in between ...)

Zaph

Panic over ...

Re-installed 2018/19 map on Skoda SD card and popped it into the head unit.

Map is back (wonder what happened?)

Just reload the map data you backed up - Simple

Hi Kev,

Just pipped you there!  Thanks for the reply anyhow.

Erm , I have a VW  sat nav sd card, to update my sat nav, I thought I just had to insert the card into the sat nav and it would do its stuff, is it not that simple or am I being simple?

You've not given us much to work on to be honest. other than you have a VW sd card. Need to know what actual sat nav unit you have, and also what the issue is you're experiencing with trying to update it. And the part number of the sd card would be a help, and also details of where you got said card from on the assumption it would work?

The unit is an Amundsen and I’ve checked the version in the sat nav unit, 5 lines, it suggests that I need an update for rns315, the part number is 3AA919866, I haven’t done anything with the card yet. It was an ebay purchase.

If you have an Amundsen (or more likely an Amundsen+ ) then you presumably have a Superb mk 2. In that case you're in the wrong section as this thread is regarding the Octavia MK3 which is completely different and not relevant to your car or head unit.

The SD card issue for the Amundsen+ unit is covered in many threads in the Octavia MK2, Superb mk2, and probably the ICE section.

Can someone confirm my SIM is the right one to update my Sat Nav system for my Skoda MK3 (64 plate) Elegance? I bought the SD card from my Skoda Camberley service centre. The reason I ask is the front label refers to various Skoda vehicles, as well as Octavia (5E) Part/Order number 5L0 051 236C.

The reason I ask is I can't get the downloaded sat nav update to upload to car.

Downloaded the map and radio icon zip files to lap top, extracted files to another folder, transferred from this folder the unzipped files to my SIM, but not recognised by vehicle. I have formatted the sim started with default FAT 32, then NTFS and even Ex FAT. I am at a loss, hence my query ref. SIM?

Okay, it's an SD card, not a sim card.

Next, what system do you have? Some versions need an SD card inserted to work and others can use any media to upload it once

Amundsen I think, Glove box has a CD slot and SD 1 + 2 slots...

Do you have access to the version information screen where it lists the part numbers etc. If so take a pic of it

I *think* that 5L0 051 236 C part number is a 16GB card for an MIB2 Amundsen unit.

I'm pretty sure your 64-plate model will require an 8GB card for a MIB1 Amundsen unit.

If the SD card is 16GB in size, it's likely the wrong one.
