What have you done to your Superb III today?

Installed a JB4 on my 2016 280 this week. What's surprising is it doesn't feel that much faster from the driver's seat.

Chucked a bucket of water over it. Three hours later this is the result.         Happy with that

Had detailing and 12 month ceramic protection (MPM Detailing, Shropshire, real gent and knows his stuff!) then fitted OE mud-flaps bought off Ebay.

It's the little things that bring the happiness! :)

Seriously? I have a Racechip GTS Black on our 2016 280 and the difference from the drivers seat is massive. It’s set to Sport+2. Mind you, I also have a Racechip XLR Pedalbox too, which completely eliminates the throttle lag and the dramatically improves response. Perhaps you should try the BMS Pedal Tuner?

ACE Car Care Remap (Shrewsbury) performed, 190 to 230bhp and 400 to 470nm torques, DSG tune also.

Taking it easy so far but gear transition appears so much better!

Would you recommend the DTUK unit? My 2018 220 L&K drives really well but I do miss the power of my previous BMW 535d and I thought a tuning box might be a solution. Also has it had any effect on the throttle response as mine is a bit "woolly". Cheers Rich

I fitted DTUK tuning box AND pedal box to my 65 plate L&K. Tuning box certainly gives the oomph when you want it, but it’s the pedal box which has transformed the pedal response, it’s now instant on all settings.

Worth paying the extra for the Bluetooth version IMHO and can then control everything on the go via the app, and hide the pedal box controller out of the way in the little pull out drawer on right side of steering column

Managed to get a stone hit my windscreen and cause a small crack.

Almost 20 years of driving and first time ever, annoying but I guess it had to happen eventually

You can request OEM glass if going through your insurance (assuming your policy has windscreen cover). It's more expensive for the insurer but you will end up with a better screen, some of the cheap stuff Autoglass and others use have optics and fitment issues.

I remember reading that on here, but it’s thankfully only 1.3cm from end to end and on the passenger side outside of the wiper, so should just be a normal chip repair and more than 3cm from the edge7B1238C8-FE25-47CD-8B39-2A2FB9D36750.thumb.jpeg.5cab7db1700ccb19e6fbf7645b8cfe63.jpeg

Like I said earlier never had a chip before, today at 1540 I thought I’d go online to get the chip fixed, 1640 auto glass turned up, very impressed.

Its still somewhat visible but have to really really look

Chipped windscreens are like busses. Get one & another comes along soon after.

I dread having to replace my screen as it is a heated one. Insurance will cover it (minus the excess) but I've heard that there are often problems with the heated elements after fitting a new screen.

Just to set your mind at rest, Colin. Had my L&K heated windscreen done at Autoglass including calibration. Went perfectly with no problems in the past 3 years. They got me to check everything before I left. Really good service, and covered by insurance minus a relatively small excess.

Second hand Audi S3 8V as I’ll be stripping them down and painting them anyway

Not specifically on a Superb, but I replaced my load-bay lights with Leds - huge improvement over the dim, original filament ones.

I suppose this should be posted under "What I didn't do to my Superb III today"

I was driving into the sun the other day and was surprised to see how dirty the inside of my windscreen was. No one has ever smoked in the car, I don't know how that film of grease got there. Anyway, on Friday I cleaned the front windscreen, then got around to the back. Lifted the hatch, removed the parcel shelf, leaned it up against the wall of the Café G (I park on the street) climbed into the boot and gave the rear window a good clean. Excellent.

Sunday, we went for a two-day road trip. When I unpacked the car, I finally realised that I had forgotten to replace the parcel shelf. D'oh! Double d'oh!!

Got home yesterday, hoping that the parcel shelf would still be leaning against the wall where I left it...

So, what's the best way to replace the parcel shelf. Dealer? e-Bay? Breakers?

I feel for you Freelunch. I'd try the breakers first - then the Bay. A very distant third choice for the dealers.

I once did something similar with an extra spare wheel (I used to carry two sometimes) - difference is that it was still there when I got back home several days later.

Pop in and ask the shop if they picked it up

I want your garage… barsteward. 😂 Going to have to build one now!

@Warrior193  @Danoid  I checked with the shops and neighbours. They all know the car, it's been parked there or thereabouts for five years and they see me cleaning it often. I meet most of my neighbours at the car. Anyway, no luck. I even walked about the common opposite to see if the wind had taken it.

I checked on a central website linked to breakers yards, I got two replies: £140. I checked eBay and found a used shelf for £89, but it looked grey and scuffed. Others were closer to the £140 mark. Finally I called my dealer: £157.46, including strings and hardware. So, I went for new. The cost of a tank and a half of petrol.

(Edit) If anyone gets in the same predicament, the part number is K3V5867769E6V0 for the cover (not parcel shelf) and K1M6867574A for the holder (as the pins which attach to the hatch that the strings hook over). Turns out I didn't need the two pins as they were already in the hatch, but they were only 28p/each.

Additional info

Spent 8h to make a deep clean of the bodywork. Ouch, it was really neccessary 😯. Tomorrow, I´ll attempt to remove swirls caused by my local dealer.

They systematically clean cars when you let it for overhaul, unless you clearly say you don’t want it.
I forgot twice to tell them « No car wash » and now my car is covered with swirls… 😬

Pics coming soon.

Spent more than 4 hours to polish the bonnet and the left side (only) using an orbital polisher (sorry if it's a bad tanslation)...

I've managed to remove 70-80% of swirls / light scratches. The varnish is really hard 😮... or scratches aren't that light 🤔... Anyway, I don't know how dirty their microfibers are, but it's a big job to remove absolutely all scratches.

Note: This is my first time using an electric polisher. Not unhappy with the result.

I know what you mean. I had a go at some scratches on my roof back in the summer. They needed filling with a body coloured paint pen first (black), then polishing by hand. I do have a random orbital polisher but decided not to use it this time. The result was reasonable but it only served to highlight other swirls elsewhere on the roof. Black shows every imperfection.

There is a chance that I might sell my 280 when we get an EV for my wife next year so it would make sense to have the whole car detailed to make it look it's best before the sale. Alternatively I could take it to a detailer to have the whole car done professionally. If I do sell my 280 I would take over my wife's current 1.5 Karoq but I would badly miss the power of the Superb. Decisions decisions!

Can I ask - is it a “dual action” polisher? It takes years of experience to to use a standard orbital polisher without creating mass holograms all over your bodywork. You’ll see them on cars when they’ve been to body shops and an idiot has finished the polishing. If it’s not a DA, I suggest you buy one; they’re not that expensive and plenty of second hand ones available on eBay.
