JR RS,

Any chance of a close up picture of the wheels / brakes to see what the spacers look like.

More so to see how they look sandwiched between the wheel and rotor hat.

What a nice stance though...

Thank u 🙂

Pics as requested.  To the untrained eye, u'll not notice it's there, and that too only if u actually look closeup between the spokes.

I've got black spacers up front and silver/alloy ones at the rear.

  • I've made a thread dedicated to the arb upgrade and all related discussion, so let's gather every new comment about it there:

  • Correct, it's far from slammed, let alone "obviously lowered". Its subtle, yet makes a nice difference both in looks and firmness.   The ride has not been compromised one bit.  I don't

My spacers have become one with the Pretorias, literally. No idea whether the power-coating made the spacers "glue" on the alloys so hard but I have given up on trying to remove them as it effectively makes the installation so much easier, no more free rotating and trying to aling them when changing wheels, just an alloy with a 10mm greater offset! 😄

Another "must do" mod on this car (or even better some lightweight alloys with smaller offset - two birds with one shot).

Looks so much better and 100% OEM still 👍

What size spacers did you go for?

Speaking of which, I am changing my alloys and the size options on the ones I'm after is either 8.5J ET37 or  8.5J ET45.  The former one equals to a 13.4mm spacer the latter to a 5.4mm one. The Superb definitely needs more than a 5mm spacer to look good but I had 10-12mm as a limit to not poke out too much.

I wonder if 13.4mm is a tad too far out? I wouldn't like anything over "flush" and I am not putting spacers again... Opinions on the 8.5J ET37??

I think 13.4mm will b fine n not stick out.

This is wat 15mm looks like.

Looking good, thanks JR!

Although with wheels pushed out as in the pic, lowering will be unavoidable...  This spring has costed me a lot already and it doesn't look as it's getting better any time soon... 😄

Your first picture explains nicely what I'm trying to avoid too. I have no issue at all with the Sportlines current ride height, all I'm interested in is firming up the suspension to remove some of the float in the corners and the bouncing over some bumps. I'd like it to be like our old VRS, firm, but still comfortable. Now if only we can find some front spacers.

Same for me, I'm not really bothered what it looks like, the less overtly sporty the better.

I'm thinking RARB plus uprated dampers, something like FSDs for mine. Any thoughts on dampers?

BTW how did your turbo replacement go? I read the saga on piston heads earlier (I'm presuming you use same name on both forums of course).

Finally bitten the bullet and ordered the Koni Special Actives for my 280 🤗 got a VAG specialist garage round the corner that will hopefully fit them for a reasonable cost!

Larkspeed had one full set in stock and I've heard of other companies with delays on them so figured I may as well get them in now.

So I appreciate this is a long old time ago, however, how have the Special Actives performed? I’m about to go all in with H&R and Special Actives so would be great to get a first hand review / opinion of them please?

I've loved them. Tiniest bit firmer in normal driving, but on twisty roads and pushing it a bit, much more supportive.

The only thing I'd say is that I'm currently having an issue with a bad knocking at the rear. There's a chance it's the rear shocks, and if so then the rears will be only 3yrs old, which is too early for them to be failing. So hoping it's not them. Might get to swap my standard ones back on at the weekend, but will have to wait and see.

Great and thanks for coming back to me as I appreciate it’s been a while. Yeah I’m looking for something that just tightens the ride up. Car really “wallows” especially over speed bumps, so want more control on the bounce back. Are you on lowered springs too? How did you get on with your rear knock?

In the last week I’ve had Bilstein B6 fitted with standard sportline springs. The thing is like a whole different car. No wallowing, no wheels thumping around on the rebound. Had polybushes on the rear of the front arms at the same time and the car is now amazing. Wife and kids haven’t noticed at all.

I was actually avoiding driving it beforehand cos it annoyed me so much. Now I’m after any excuse to drive it.

Did you have standard dampers before?

Have booked mine into local specialist this Friday to get to the bottom of the banging noise. Really hope it gets sorted and doesn't require new dampers!

Yes it was on the standard damper, not dcc. It wasn’t massively expensive I don’t think, not for the improvement anyway. Dampers, fitting and alignment was about £900.

Think I paid about the same roughly, for the Koni dampers. I did think if the rears are my issue I would potentially look at moving to Bilstein all round, as 3yrs isn't long enough to last before failing, but we shall see what is discovered on Friday!

Thanks pal, sounds like the sort of real world feedback I was looking for. It’s been a toss up between Special Actives and Bilstein for a while (to the verge of massively overthinking it 🤦🏻‍♂️🤣🤣 ). I’m also still toying with lowering springs as whilst the dampers are being changed it’s only a small leap (shuffle really) to swap out the springs too. Sometimes I look at the car and think “it’s alright as is” and then the next day I can walk up to it and be like “those arch gaps are killing me” 🤣🤣🤣 I really appreciate you taking the time and your detailed feedback. ✌🏼👍🏼

I’ll get some pics as requested. Don’t think I need to post part codes, this info is pretty clear from Bilstein. Top mounts and bearings I just got straight from local ŠKODA dealer. Polybushes are from…..Polybush lol, code is 44EX.

If you’re on the fence about lowering, mine is defo sitting higher now on the B6. Not sure how much it’ll settle over time. It drives so nice now that I’m not bothered.

So been in with the local garage today, and confirmed it's the dampers knocking. I then dropped off my OEM ones to let them confirm it and it has - silent ride with the OEM's!

A bit rubbish from Koni. If it was the bushing at the bottom I could almost understand, and the retailer I bought from have said that would be addressable, but the damper unit itself, let alone both dampers failing is poor, and apparently very unusual.

I was looking at options for changing all four to something else, however I do really like the ride on the Special Actives, and agree with the retailer in that there's nothing else really that offers a similar function.

At the moment I'm waiting on Koni UK coming back to me regarding it, but I suspect I will be buying two rears and replacing them, and chalking it up to bad luck. Fingers crossed the next ones last longer!

Sorry to hear that.

I've heard off a couple of other peeps in the past who have removed their Koni shocks due to knocking.

No fix. Bad design.
