Amundsen MIB2 Firmware Update

Featured Replies

Hi I am new here and apologise if I am in the wrong forum.
I have been using my infotainment system for nearly a year without a problem but recently I have the following issues:
Connected via Bluetooth there is no audio, the media display shows the track/radio station information and I can see the track playing.

At the same time, if I switch to the DAB radio I can see live track information but no audio.

Navigation has no sound.

I have factory rest the system to no avail.

After leaving the system powered off sometimes the audio returns but generally if I try to connect via Bluetooth the audio fails.

At all times the reverse parking proximity warning will work.

I wonder if there is incompatibility of Bluetooth between the infotainment system and my phone, which begs the question, would a firmware/software update resolve the issue?
I believe my system is:

Amundsen MY17 unit with DAB - 5Q0035874B

Hardware: H30

Software: 0353

Software train version: MST2_EU_SK_ZR_P0353T

Navigation SW: H28.28.91_STD2Nav_EU

Database: 5L0051236P

0730

ECE1 2017

SHIELD: SHIELD 2016-03 (build 020)

If I haven't provided enough or the right information let me know how to access it and I will have another go!

If I'm in the wrong forum, would you point me to the correct one please?

Any/all help gratefully received,

Paul

You have to patch swdownload. After patching it still may require to modify metainfo2.txt file.

Hi @pab567, I purchased the DLink E100 USB->ETH adapter. I tried patching the download without success, and I definitely messed up the software because when I insert an SD card with firmware 0369T or 0408T into the MIB it recognizes that it contains updates (the pop-up appears), but it doesn't give me the option to select a source from which to start the update in the Service Menu because the menu remains gray. The SD cards of the tests are 8 or 16 GB formatted in FAT32 and are the same ones I used to install Tobox and GEM, so they work.

Can you message me privately and tell me if you can remotely access the MIB directly to edit the swdownload and modify the mateinfo2.txt file on the card inserted in the PC, or if I should send you the MIB so you can do the update for me?

Thanks for your time.

@Paulygee22 I sent you download link in PM. If this doesn't help then I beleive it's a HW issue.

@matbeva you don't need dLink for MIB STD2 unnits. Do you have UART interface to connect it to the unit?

Thank you pab567.

I di not have access to PC until later today so I will have a look then. I assume I need an SD card, formated for FAT32, with minimum 32GB, is that right?

1. format SD (best max 32GB) under FAT32

2. unpack to root (metainfo2.txt and all the folders must be placed directly on SD, not in any folder)

3. insert SD card into the slot

4. enter Service Menu (long press MENU button)

No I'm sorry, I don't have the URAT interface and I noticed that even the Green menu has far fewer options than before and it's not possible to install updates.

Everything else works normally (radio, NAV, SD reader for mp3 and maps). To avoid bricking the unit, perhaps it would be better if I sent you the MIB?

It's up to you. Generally it's not the rocket science but it requires some tools and knowledge - see https://github.com/olli991/mib-std2-pq-zr-toolbox/issues/371 If you don't find yourself comfortable in running emergency update procedure then of course you can send it to me, I can make it, upgrade firmware to 0480 and unlock all the features.

You're right, it's not complicated. Years ago, I worked in industrial electronics, I had my own lab and all the necessary equipment and I did these things. Now I work in an office and have nothing more than a PC and a laptop that I use with VAG-COM.

Please let me know, excluding shipping, how much this will cost. Thank you.

I've sent t=you PM to agree the scope

@Th0th06976 do you mean OEM sat nav or navigation via Android Auto or Apple CarPlay?

OEM sat nav

@Th0th06976 infotainment reader, also called "glove box unit", must be replaced - but is it really worth to spend 400 EUR on adding oem sat nav, which is always offline and outdated? If your answer is "yes" then ypu can contact me on PM.

All others check your PMs

Ok perfect no it's better with Apple car play ;)

@pab567 Can you give me the latest update necessary for my MIB station ??

I also have problems with the 12V battery, where I get a message saying ‘12V battery almost empty, infotainment system shutting down’ or ‘12V battery almost empty, drive to recharge’. As a result, the start/stop system is not working and is buggy.

I checked the battery at the garage and at home with a multimeter to measure the alternator voltage, and everything is OK.

Some forums mention a problem with the infotainment system and say that it needs to be updated, and for some, the engine control unit needs to be replaced.

Can you send me the tutorial again so I can update it correctly?

You already have the latest firmware installed (0480).

I suggest you check your battery dynamically, with charging-dischargin cycle. It's very probable that one of cells is broken - I had the same recently in my car.

What do you mean? How do you do that? Did you change the battery?

Thanks for the latest firmware

There are dedicated tools that charge / discharge battery, they can very precisely measure the battery and have it "refreshed". My battery indeed required replacement although the quick measurements made by garage showed it's OK.

I suggest you take car to a proper Battery Shop and get it LOAD TESTED ONLY WAY to be sure A battery can show 12 v with a meter but is stuffed and a load test will show how much when it shows 7 v or something AS said could have dropped a cell and VAG cars usually show a dash full of lights and stop start not working is the sign that the battery is stuffed

Hi @pab657 I followed your instructions and as the fault was intermittent have been testing the unit for the last few days .

All is still working so hopefully I will not need to replace the hardware now!

Can you tell me, with my system details as below but with the updated software you provided,

Amundsen MY17 unit with DAB - 5Q0035874B

Hardware: H30

Are you able to determine if I can purchase Android Auto connectivity please?

Thanks again for your help

Paul

Yes, you ca, or you can patch th eunit - search for MIB STD2 Toolbox

Reassurance please! The satnav in my 2018 Octavia 3 hasn’t ever been updated. I have added a screen shot of an eBay listing below for a replacement card. I have checked, and the part number of my unit is on the list quoted in the eBay listing, so it looks ok, I think. I understand not to buy a cheaply, but to get a Skoda version.

So, does this look OK? (no repercussions on any advice given, I assure you!) And if so, is it simply a case of old card out, new one in?

Thanks in advance

Malcolm
