Featured Replies

Hi all help needed...

I’ve just purchased a 14 reg Octavia and it has navigation but no sd card so I purchased a genuine card from Tps Thinking you just pop it into the sd slot but it seems not and  I have no idea how to install it on to the car... I have tried sd card slot 1 & 2 but it just says put a card in with valid files.. I have no instructions books for the car and I can’t find any how to’s on this.
thanx in advance

If the seller advertised the car with Sat Nav, take the car back & say the Sat Nav doesn't work, if they can't make it work, ask for your money back.

Basically, there is component protection between the SD Card & the car, its expensive to fix through the dealers hence, why the seller should have made sure it worked

The price of the card was deducted from the price of the car so it’s down to me to get it working, but thank you for the advice

First things first, what infotainment system do you have - Amundsen or Columbus?

If it's an Amundsen then as it's a 2014 model you'll have a MIB1 Amundsen which means you need a genuine Skoda SD card with a part number beginning 5E0 051 236 (the suffix doesn't matter). If you have purchased an SD card with a part number starting 5L0 then that's for a MIB2 Amundsen which has maps that are not compatible with your MIB1 - but don't despair you CAN use that SD card, just delete all the files on it and follow the download instructions below...

If it's a Columbus then you need any SD card (it doesn't have to be a Skoda one).

Either way, visit the Skoda Update portal at https://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/ then enter your VIN and you'll be shown the latest maps for your infotainment system, download them onto a PC, unzip and copy the files to your SD card. The insert the SD card into your infotainment system and wait...

I have a spare 5LO original SD Card (MIB2 - as Dave says) if it'll help at all.

If you install the MIB1 files onto a 5L0 SD card they DO work in a MIB1 Amundsen - that's what's in my 2005 Octavia which has a MIB1 Amundsen.

So I guess if you're not sure if you have a MIB1 or MIB2 Amundsen then get a 5L0 card, and enter your VIN on the Skoda Portal to get the correct map files.

Cheers Dave, it was an MIB1 (well still probably is), but the vRS went last May, and my GTI doesn't need it, hence it now being spare.

Thank you Dave I’m at work at the moment and the sd card is at home so I’m not  sure of the numbers, I’ll follow your guide over the weekend and let you know how I get on 👍

Just had a look at the card and it’s a 5LO so I’ll try the vin number method... how do you know which mib you have ? Mine has 2 card slots and disk slot

The switch from MIB1 to MIB2 happened from May 2015 (my Octavia was built in April 2015 so I've got one of the last cars to be built with a MIB1), so since yours is a 2014 your car was built with a MIB1.

Entering your VIN onto the portal tells it what infotainment system your car was built with

Hi I have tried to update my maps on a 2013 Octavia. I contacted Skoda who gave me the details of the location to download the latest map and how to do it. They said I could purchase a new sd card and download to that. I tried this but when installed in car it just kept saying "Please insert a data medium with valid navigation data". I spoke to Skoda customer services who advised that the new card might not be compatible with the car and to use the original card, copy the files to a spare directory and then erase the ones on the card by reformatting the card. Then copy the latest download to the original card and it will work. No. When i plug the SD card in now this one is now saying "Please insert..................." . I deleted the files and copied the original map data back onto the card but it is still saying "Please insert etc etc". Having read a lot of info on this forum site it would appear that I should not have formatted the card to erase the files but just copied the new ons over.

Help?

What SD card did you buy? If you have an Amundsen it MUST be a Skoda SD card.

I always copied the old files on the SD card onto my PC,  quick formatted the card to FAT32 with 4K cluster size (quicker than deleting the files) and then copied the new unzipped files to the SD card - worked every time for me.

Hi

I have tried all that you have suggested. I am now using the original SD card, formatted it, copied the data to it and then loaded - cleanmydrive2 - The Amundsen unit now starts loading but then defaults to  no playable files on this drive   ?? Any idea's would be appreciated.

That message says that it's not finding any suitable map data on the SD card.

Are you sure you have downloaded the correct map data - it's different for MIB1 and MIB2 and for Amundsen and Columbus?

If you're sure it's the correct map data have you unzipped it and copied across ALL the data exactly (files & folders) as it unzipped into the root of the SD card?

I've only seen the message "no playable files" when playing around with music files.

People have run into problems using a Mac as it adds extra files.

Can you use a PC?.  Will give you far less problems.

I use to format, but now just erase the old files

Your car is the same age as mine, and putting in my VIN the latest available maps are ECE 2020/2021  This will be the last update as VW have stopped support for MIB1

Just tried downloading new maps to sd card, computer says file too big for card. File 6.23, I think card just over 6. Mine says KW22 2016

What size card comes next, best place to get one, what do I need to watch for getting another card?

You can try to find on ebay, people are able to put correct CID compatible for your car, or they can even ask you to read the CID from your original card and make specially for you larger card with same CID. Try to find someone do it in UK.

Best next alternative is to find used original card if something is wrong with yours.

Some people have deleted the countries they know they'll never go to. That has reduced the size.

Have done it a couple of times since having the car, this is the first time it's said, file too big for card.

You can get larger capacity 16G MIB1 compliant cards here on the forum.  There is a user who is selling them....why not have a look in the classifieds.

Hi O, if I had even the slightest idea how to do that I would. Technophobe.

It actually quite easy - what @ords means I think is that instead of a whole map, you can downline sections of a map from  which are smaller capacity size wise and should fit onto a smaller capacity SD Card (assuming it is 8GB in size).  For example, ECE1 maps generally show only UK, France, Spain and Ireland.

Yes ECE1 was the one I downloaded, which is the one I usually use.

Cracked it :D  On a 2013-15 Octavia with an amundsen MIB1 unit follow these steps to upload the latest map.. Using a Windows PC (not a Mac) access the skoda update portal, www.updateportal.skoda-auto.com, enter your VIN number and follow the instructions to download the map. Erase the data on the existing card, formatting is the quickest way,  and then upload the data onto the card. This took about 1.5 hours and was accomplished at my local Skoda dealer, Preston's of Writtle, Essex, (sorry for the advert but they deserve a mention as Kasey was excellent in helping me resolve the problem) as they used their PC to achieve this.

Good luck and don't give up.
