Magic, many thanks. Probably go 4gb/64gb then. I think I saw some with wired Android auto so I will check this first.

The 4GB/64GB supports wired and wireless android auto and apple carplay.

You should read the whole tread, and see if you are okay with all that is going on.

  • The job is never finished until you leave DNA behind!

  • Small update as have now gone back in and put a generic external microphone in place. I opted not to put it behind the trim where factory one is as it's blanked off on driver side and didn't think it

  • That screen to map out the steering controls is identical to that on mine.   If you did want to add DAB to it by the way then I can highly recommend the rear amplifier and splitter option.

I found on xda the password for the engineering menu.

It is 7890+the hour if time showed in the status bar.

So if it is 16h00 then the password is 789016

If it is 03h15 then 789003

Tried and worked

The password for usb debugging is john@tw-desktop

Can you guys check the version of your car setting app? Mine is 1.0 and really ugly.

I checked mine with FILE MANAGER

If you have a higher version, It would be great to provide it.

Extraction is really easy with FILE MANAGER.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alphainventor.filemanager

The application menu gives you all the info.

To extract, Long press the app then select backup.

The backed up file will be in BACKUPS folder

Hi, have read the whole thread and installed a 4+64gb version a few days ago.  Bar the factory usb problem everyone’s had, it seemed to have gone fine.  But I’m having problems with selecting the correct canbus options.

steering wheel controls work fine, but experiencing a few issues.

MFD is now in German, and no matter what I select in the car setting menu on the radio, nothing changes, in fact nothing a do on the rcar settings option on the radio have any affect on the car.

when I press driving mode, the screen does pop up, it allows me to select a different mode, but after 5 seconds always seems to default back to sport (with the constant annoying engine noise amplifier) even just pressing the mode button by the gearstick doesn’t seem to do anything, it just seems to go back to sport.

head unit has been updated to the latest version, have changed the canbus whilst having a good WiFi signal, so the MCB has always fully updated. Tried all that’s been suggested on here, Golf 7, VW MQB, Octavia 13, 15, 17.

Any ideas, I like the head unit but the German thing, engine drone, and not being able to change any of the settings is a deal breaker so far for me.

Hi,

so for the german matrix language, you must change the language in the car setting menu and not the system setttings.

For the drone, you can also check in the car settings if you have anything there. I would just put back the stock unit and deactivate it as I did for my factory bluetooth.

Fot the canbus, have you connected the small 2 cable socket on the unit? (I missed that part on my installation and had issues)

Frome the iso harness you must have 2 connectors to the unit.

Have you selected RAISE in the settings before choosing you car?

Does state in the advert and most other ones I've seen that they are specifically not for Canton, so they are aware of it at least. I don't think it will be possible to get one as the market would be too small for them to bother with making one for fibre optic setup like the Canton has sadly.

You lot all have a much different newer looking version of the software than I got. I don't even think i've seen anywhere to check for an update on it, perhaps for the best. Have you a pic of the drive mode screen that comes up? Mine brings up screen with the 3 modes and a box under it saying 'change' I think and I must press that change button to cycle through the modes themselves not touch the actual mode square. I never found a way to edit my individual drive mode on the head unit, but already had it set beforehand so works fine for me in that way (all in sport but with headlight bending voodoo off etc).

ps. could be worse, could be in Welsh!

When you select a canbus version it should install extra apps that are meant to be specific to that car version. Have a look at all the apps you have installed and you should see an app called car settings, in that app should be an option to change the language.

What car do you have as you might need to keep trying all the VW canbus versions until you find one that works properly.

Could you deactivate the engine drone from the factory unit or is it something that needs to be done by VCDS, obdeleven etc.

Have you rand the both the detection updates? Go to the head unit normal settings then scroll down to about the click on detection update and run both the update options.

In the car settings menu, you can choose the options frr the individual mode, they won't be straight in the driving mode tiles.

No as I said mine is totally different, see video in first post on thread. No option to update anywhere, OTA or from storage etc. Thing is, I have had none of the niggles you've all had, everything has just worked so not sure I should try and flash it.

Well as we say, if it ain't broken don't fix it.... We all seem to have a different can version, your's is 25, wagster is 29 and mine is 27.

I wonder how performance changes with this.

Sorry, I've limited time to sit and play in the car lately.

I've got all the necessary apps, it just seems that the car and radio refuse to talk to each other. Steering wheel radio controls work fine, but there's no link between radio and car. I have used the car settings app, but had no affect on the car. And I have been using all the correct ways to select the canbus. I select to change language and died noting. Car info, such as trip, TMPS and maintenance don't show anything either. When I press driving mode button by the gear knob, it brings up the factory screen, but again, no affect. Same with changing options in car settings

Have upgraded both options, but in the info screen where everyone seems to have a different version number, I just have CAN version:Unknown, suspect that's probably the issue, antibody have any ideas. I'm a novice when it comes to CANBUS black magic

Does that red text message disappear when you do a hard restart of the head unit?

It is definitely a canbus problem, check to make sure the white connector is connected to the canbus box is connected properly and also the 2 wire white connector that goes from the canbus box to the head unit is also connected properly.

Last resort I would run a factory reset, then on 1st boot go and select the correct car canbus settings. Then hard restart then run both the detection updates.

Yep, red message disappears after a reboot.  Im going to strip it out and check all the connections, left that option until last because it was a pig with cable routing

Yep it can be a bit tight with the lack of play on the harness, I set it all up with the cables hanging in the passenger footwell to give easy access and not having to go through pulling the harness in and out, once I had everything working as it should only then did I route the cables which only left having to change to dot matric language back to English as everything the main power connector is pulled out of the head unit it reverts back to German but that is just a quick change in the car settings.

Until you can get the head unit to detect a can version you will always have problems but the can version where yours says unknown, is taken from the version when you select the correct car in the canbus settings. If you select Simple instead of Raise the can version will say something different to say like what mine says of VW-RZ.

Cheers Wagster.

Think I might have fixed the problem.  I'm in a hospital car park waiting for the missus. Got some funny looks ripping the stereo out 😂. Think it's the connector to the canbus decoder. I've managed to get everything working by selecting the canbus option golf7, unplugging and reconnecting the decoder, then doing a hard reset. Took about 5 goes but everything seems to have stuck. The can version kept showing up then disappearing after reconnecting, which is why I persevered

Glad you preserved and hope that it now sticks. How long ago did the head unit get delivered as you might need to put in a dispute for a possible harness or canbus decoder defect.
