Android 10 Stereo £162 AliExpress gamble! Results:

So my unit has finally arrived and as expected... there was a little bit of a lie.

The B version suppose to work with the cd player is just an extended connector to avoid moving the harness from the glove box side to the the center of the car... there is no connection what so ever to the cd player.

In my case, this is useless as I hav to get the stock GPS antenna and the stock DAB antenna so I must move the harness.

the quadlock quality is lower than the presious one I had.

There is no stock USB cable, hopefully I kept the one from the previous unit that I will customise to get the 5V to the quadlock. I sold the other custom one with the connector to the new owner.

I will try to get everything set up and running this evening or tomorrow.

  • The job is never finished until you leave DNA behind!

  • Small update as have now gone back in and put a generic external microphone in place. I opted not to put it behind the trim where factory one is as it's blanked off on driver side and didn't think it

  • That screen to map out the steering controls is identical to that on mine.   If you did want to add DAB to it by the way then I can highly recommend the rear amplifier and splitter option.

So the unit is in place and running. The UI is soooo much nicer and everything is snappy and fast.

Now I have to learn how to use it because is is completely different than the other one.

I also need the factory password. I hope there is a setting for the FM volume because as it is, on 1 It blasts your ears.

So I Found the code 121212

Something odd thought, I don't see dabZ in the apps.

I will try to install carwebguru a d see if it shows In there

Great to know, let us know what you think of the new headunit, i will hold up a bit before ordering one so might give the one you order a go, i have small radio with no nav or anything so this one is still probably better than my orginal one. I want my audio and woofers back in the car so i went to audio shop and cheapest plug an play unit was like 1100€ from kenwood i belive, not worth it for me.

So the unit looks way more stable than the ebilaen and the UI is more polished. The 3gb ram are more than enough to drive the unit.

I haven't tested the call quality yet.

One thing I noticed, the drive modes don't pop up When you press the button, you have to go in the settings to see what mode is activated

They may be a workaround I haven't figured out yet.

For the moment I am happier with this unit than the ebilaen.

From what I see, everything is identical to joying units

You could go for it

Well I just noticed that the unit does not shut off, it stays in sleep mode no matter what setting I use, even no sleep

I am trying to sort it out with the seller.

20220413_224043.jpg

So an MCU upgrade sent by the seller seems to have done the trick, the units shuts down afer 1 minute when set to ne sleep.

This seller is really better that Ebilaen, he aswers fast and helps quite a lot.

Has anyone with the Elibaen 4gb unit had issues with updating apps through the play store.

Was having a play about with it earlier, and since the weekend, I've not been able to download any apps, or update my existing apps, they just sit in pending.

play store is up to date and data on other apps work when tethering frim my phone.

I've deleted cache etc and still the same.

I've then tried to access the play store website, and it doesn't load up.

Also tried to factory reset the device and this wouldn't work either using the 123456 or 8888 codes.

Any advice.

Just checked mine and play store is working OK. Sometimes takes a while to start downloading the update.

Always have problems with play store now and again with it sat at pending update. At some point it normally sorts itself out so I just ignore it.

To factory reset in the Eilaen unit you use the code 7890. The factory reset isn't really like a factory reset on a android phone as it only seems to reset certain things. The only true way to remove everything is to use the factory reset option in the extra settings. Just remember if you do it this way you lose every app that is installed that isn't built into the actual firmware so use with caution.

Cheers guys.

Back out to the car this morning and it did the same.

Cleared cache and storage again and it seemed to work this time. Happy days lol

Are you sure there is not an Android system file update? They take quite a while.

Regarding my new Unit, I won't recommend it either.

Call quality is good but FM radio is horrible and if I use Sygic and let's say dabZ, every time I hit the home Button, it shuts down dabZ. This only happens when Sygic is running..

I just recieved a 4GB model (second one) and I don't have this issue. Everything is OK.

I am on a 2022110 firmware thought. It seems stable so I won't updrade.

Seller sent me a dump if anyone needs it

I made a backup of the original apps, I didn't want to make the same mistake I made on my firt unit.

Didn’t find in the thread:

How are you pleased with music quality?

Has anyone put it on CANTON?

Does phone call works fine and gps with external antenna?

thanks a lot

Music quality is excellent.

It won't work with canton unfortunately.

Phone call is hit or miss depending on the external mic you use.

GPS is perfect with the car GPS. I can't say for the provided antenna, I use the car factory antenna

I’ve been dipping into this thread with interest. Thinking about replacing the head unit on my Yeti as there’s something up with the radio reception. I get no reception on am and fm comes and goes. I assume it’s something to do with the signal amplifier which I’m also assuming is built into head unit.  I like the idea of one of these android units and would like dab too. What are uk buyers experiences of buying from AliExpress? Now that we’re out with the EU it would appear that I’ll be liable for vat and possibly import duty on top of the listed price, at least that’s what their website suggests. Has anyone here purchased a unit recently and if so what happened? Perhaps buying from Amazon or a uk based ebayer would be better?

I am in FranceI got mine shipped from Spain so no import taxes or Vat.

My precious unit was shipped from China. It went trought customs without being charged for taxes or Vat. It may depend on the size of the box. Smaller boxes seems to go trought easily

I don't suppose anyone has managed to fix the problem with the rubbish microphone? I thought mine was OK at first but now seems to be unusable.

What I found  out is that all tjese mics have a really short range.

Putting it in the rearview mirrir is too far.

I ended up putting mine in the sun visor, right above my head and the sound is fine.

Thanks.  Sounds like no hope for the internal mic then. Which external mic have you found works best?

Yes internal mic use useless unless your mouth is 1cm From it. In that case the sound can be Preety good 😂

The mic I Found works the best is

https://a.aliexpress.com/_vnECfR

I even tried an Amazon lavalier mic but was no match for this cheapo mic.

It went straight back

Don't worry,it will 🙂

So finally got around to attempting to install the modified USB cable from the seller. Annoyingly I found the additional power cables attached to the USB lead are too short to cover the distance from the quadlock to the back of the unit (maybe a problem for me because I have a right hand drive car where it sounds like there is a shorter distance between the quad lock and unit?). I'm thinking I might and try to splice in some cable to make them long enough to reach.

On the positive side I've manged to fit a USB external microphone located by rear view mirror and seems to be working better for voice commands. Haven't tried phone calls yet. Fingers crossed.

Hi, yes you can splice the power cables and extend them without any problems. I built my own cable for my current unit by splicing and rewireing the whole usb plug that was provided with the unit.

Can you post a ling of your usb microphone? I am interested.

Thanks

I did this, just pulled some cabling off the old loom that was too short and used cable connectors to extend it. Does the job.

Still can't get android auto or Poweramp to work though, seperate issue altogether
