Pop pop,SOS

Completely agree with @spcdust. My SE L First Edition was an utter nightmare. All of the issues were (eventually) fixed via software update, and now the car works exactly as it should. Every Skoda main dealer in the country must be fully aware of the issues, the relevant Skoda Technical bulletins, and the required updates to resolve them as so many cars have the issues. The dealer doesn't really need to do a diagnosis, as they will be aware of what the issue is.

If the dealer refuses to back down, maybe try another dealer or raise the matter with Skoda UK Executive Office.

If they're doing updates, it's worth getting them to update the climate control module if your car is affected by the climate control SYNC issue. Details here: Forum Link

In reality the dealers should have a package of updates available that can be applied to early cars in order to bring all of the modules with known issues to versions that are known to be good.

Another forum member has recently had a bad experience with a used purchase, and that includes issues with old software: Forum Link

  • It also seems to be a complete lottery with the dealer service departments. My car went in for a whole week. When I picked it up I was told everything was fixed, but they could not provide any detail

  • It's because when they start showing the flaws, they will loose access to cars, and probably some advert income. Simple as that

  • Actually i'm not sure if new module is needed. I got some OTA few weeks ago, and since that time i haven't had a single "pop pop" or disconnection. So either it was magically fixed by itself, i w

Thanks for the reassurance, hopefully you’re both right…. I procrastinated over replacing my car so really disappointed it’s soured by this fault.

The dealer I purchased from (non Skoda) had given me a warranty so agreed they’d cover any costs for diagnostics but suggested due to the warranty I should be fine to go to a Skoda main dealer if I preferred. They are a fair way away from where I stay and I’m close to a Skoda dealer so felt I was doing the right thing.

The main dealer was firm, it’ll cost for diagnostics. When I called Skoda Uk customer service soon after booking to check this was normal they gave me the impression they’d call them to discuss this but then having called again for an update they had said they’d spoken to the dealer and now agreed, it’ll cost. Discussing the fact I was a month ahead of their warranty ending and I’d already flagged the issue then led to the CS person checking with a colleague, result of this was I’d have to pay either way.

I’ll pay the money and see how it goes, hopefully I’m worrying too much.

That would be just the most logical thing to do, wouldn't it?

They released cars with shoddy software and firmware but you have to proactively report individual issues on a piecemeal basis and have some sort of awareness of the issues these early cars can have.  This forum is an invaluable source of information.

The good news is once they are running the updated software and firmware updates they run very well and are great cars.

I’m not unfamiliar with forums which is probably adding to me feeling a bit stupid about this to be honest, I’d have been more thorough during my purchasing episode. I did have almost 2 hours test drive and looking over the car with no concerns though and having missed out on a similar car soon before I was confident.

It’s a couple of weeks before I’m booked in so will just keep calm for now 👍

I’m big on research before I make a purchase and some how also missed the magnitude of the software issues associated with VAG vehicles.  I guess I didn’t imagine such a massive company would release such flakey software and then take an age to fix it.  Fortunately, I bought my Octavia October 2023 so although. I had issues at least, by then, there were solutions to remedy them - it must have been incredibly frustrating for early purchasers plagued by these issues with no solution.

Mine is doing the pop-pop SOS fail thing now.

How do I check to see what version of software I am running?

Go to settings on your info screen, then into ‘system information’

My update lasted a day then pop pop 🫣

Not happened since then though which is the longest time so far 🤞

I’ve booked it in with a dealer for investigation.

The earliest they can fit me in? Friday 5th July. I hope if I ever have a serious issue they could squeeze me in a bit earlier!

Still cured it seems, a trip form Lanarkshire down to the coast in Northumberland and around for a week and still all good 😁

I got a 70 plate Octavia in April which had the dreaded SOS issue. At the threat of returning the car within 14 days the dealership (A Evans Halshaw branch) said they would pay for it to be fixed.  Cut a long story short, took it a Johnsons Skoda dealership who fitted a new aerial and updated the firmware.   So far so good (albeit it's only been less than a week).

TP details attached, hopefully it will help someone else to get theirs sorted.

Don’t want to jinx it but never had a problem since my last post 👍

When I was reading about "pop pop" issue I was thinking it is some alarm sound from speaker, or a sound similar to a static discharge there... How surprised I was when I was driving on a highway and someone knocked hard from within what felt like DSG selector area. I thought my selector is failing again! Really sounded like if I will knock the plastic with my knuckle. Then SOS error appeared.
Then I was surprised again when discovered that it made navigation lose any idea of where I am. Comms module never recovered by itself so I unplugged its fuse and it made it lose all my driving data, which never happened before when I rebooted it that way 🤦‍♂️What a heck of a mess how everything is designed in this car...

It might be worth getting the Telematics module firmware updated.  The pop pop by the sat nav position going completely off was something I suffered but getting the Telematics firmware updated sorted it.

Hi all, I have this issue appear on my car. My OBD seems to think it is the issue that this thread is about. The skoda dealer wants £225 just to diagnose and tell me the same thing. Is it worth just going to a 3rd party garage and asking them to replace the battery?
