Sad news, for one of our members has passed away.

It is with a heavy heart, I share the news that John, @john999boy passed away in March this year.

This was unexpected, although John had been dealing with an illness for a few months, he was in recovery.

 

Indeed I'd been on the phone with him days before; yes discussing briskoda stuff to do, whilst not the tour de force John we'll remember, he was still keen to do his bit no matter what. Above and beyond sprang to mind!

 

I began to fear the worst in early April. However I was wrapped up with my own mothers failing health. I finally visited Johns last week to see how he might be doing, only to confirm the growing feeling of his passing.

It goes beyond words how much John has helped the community over the years.

 

Initially as a member contributing and participating, before stepping up and volunteering as moderator.

 

John soon got stuck a bit more, and ultimately became a co-admin taking on a lot of burdens of keeping the peace in the community. An often thankless task, he enjoyed it, we think  

 

Behind the scenes he was always busy too. He kept me on my toes too, a canny knack for remembering what I'd not done  

 

Whilst also pushing change and I'd say walking the fine line of moderation and participant. 

 

 

 

 

John will be missed as a friend too. 

 

I know he had many good friends here and many more beyond our virtual community.

Oh dear - that's terrible news!

 

I had noticed he hadn't posted in a while but reasoned that was just because other things (like life etc.) were getting in the way - as they do for a lot of us at times.

 

Sad, sad and condolences to his family and those that knew and interacted with him.

 

I'm sure he'll be missed by the community here.

i didnt know he had been unwell, and, like skomaz, noticed he hadnt been posting but that can be down to 100 reasons.

Sad news indeed. I actually sent him a WhatsApp in April asking if he was OK as he'd been noticeable by his absence. It was sent and received but obviously never read by him.
I only met him a couple of times; once at a Brisky national meet and at the East Midlands meet in, I think late 2014 or early 2015. He arrived a little late and had the Hunter's Chicken. Odd the things you remember.
A credit to the community who moderated with integrity and fairness, and a credit also to the Fire Service. He'll be missed I'm sure. Condolences to his family.

This is very sad news.

 

John was one of the very first members that I met way back in the dim and distant past at the east mids meets at the snipe.

 

Couldn't ask for someone more welcoming and was always a good chap to have a chat with.

I have just discovered this thread and truly saddened to here this news.

 

I met him on several occasions, at Yorkshire and National meets which were always a pleasure to do. I have also had several PM conversations with him, many about the Picture Challenge game which he was so passionate about. He will be missed.
