I connected the battery charger while updating with no ill effect. It may or may not help but it makes me feel better.

Did you earth it on the engine block or the battery terminal itself in the end? Also, did you run the update with your bonnet open?

On any Skoda with a Battery Management System you must always connect the negative lead of an external charger to the chassis NOT the battery negative terminal.

If you connect it to the battery negative terminal the Battery Management System won't know the battery has been charged.

And that's my challenge - unless I can find someone who has had dealer update (or OTA) or reference to it on a Skoda site, they will refuse to believe that it is real as it is not the latest according to their documentation. The dealer did say they contacted tech support who confirmed that 1941 was the latest release.

Hi,

Mine is updated at skoda service (Slovenia) to 1969. They received from SKODA factory information to update to 1969 before changing screen.

changing screen? was your screen faulty / damaged ? Mine is still on 1941 but local deals says 1969 has not yet been released here in Australia

I had issues that volume was going to max by itself, turning on and off. Turning radio while car was locked etc. And also bad touch response.

Well i see that already 1985 is out :)

Anyone got a step by step guide to updating yourself?

1. you need a good, branded USB-C pendrive (I do not recommend adapters)

2. format it in exFat

3. unzip the downloaded file on your computer and only then copy the contents (two folders) to the root directory of the pendrive

4. open/tilt the car hood

5. turn on the ignition (you can start the engine if there is a possibility of the battery being discharged)

6. insert the pendrive into the USB-C port

7. enter service mode by holding the MENU button for a few seconds

8. follow the messages

9. arm yourself with patience - if this is your first time, you can skip the coffee :)

10. 15-20 minutes of adrenaline and you're done!

Couple of questions if you don't mind mate... Firstly, what's wrong with adapters? And secondly, why tilt the hood..?

I guess an adapter adds and additional part that could fail or be knocked and interrupt the update - potentially bricking your unit. I used a portable ssd with a usb-a to usb-c adapter and had no issues. I just made sure it was stable and didn't touch it during update!

I didn't have to open my hood during update.

Updating from 1941 to 1985 was much faster than my update from 1804 to 1941. ~5-10mins compared to ~30mins. Was worried it didn't update properly, but after a few days of driving everything looks good 🙂

1. sometimes adapters cause an error during the update; although it is rare, it does happen

2. often coding requires opening the hood of the car; maybe it's not required as someone wrote above, but I always do it; maybe it's to prevent the system from turning off?

Did the portable SSD have to be clear if any other data apart from the update files or does that not matter?

I think it's probably best practice to only have the update files on the SSD

has anyone tried updating directly from 1806?

1896, but not 1806. I'd seek expert advice before attempting that if I was you

I'd seek advice before doing such a large jump. It might need to be done in two or three stages & may need a hardware change, so check before doing anything.
