New rims have arrived from wheelbase, wrapped in fresh Vredestein Ultrac Satins. Hopefully find time to get them fitted tomorrow; back in work Sunday so if not tomorrow it won’t til next weekend. What do you think of them? And what rims are you rocking? #getyourrimsout #riskyhashtag 😨🤣
  2. Well I for one am glad that you asked the question and worked out and posted the plausible answer even though I dont have hill assist, its just a shame that you had to experience that there is sometimes a price to be paid from certain contributors whose contribution is often the same.

  5. Not the best time obviously, just the lack of places for emptying chemical toilets is an issue. Then those that are not aware that some septic tanks can not be used for emptying chemical toilets into.
  6. All my photos are pure luck haha its just a very amatuer hobby thanks for the edit looks better 👍

Bike arrived, set up for now and tried out. Happy with its weight, simplicity and quality. I will get out an do some miles on it tomorrow. Got the App on my phone and registered but still have not got the bike to pair with my phone using Bluetooth.
  8. Try using some vinegar on a clean cloth or failing that get a lemon and squeeze the juice onto a clean cloth and wipe both inside and out with it. That way you will have a grease free screen and see if it makes any difference. If not then you have the two choices. 1. Learn to live with it. 2. Get rid of the car.
  9. Sasha, I will PM you - thank you for the offer. Thanks Max
  10. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We all know about “Tyres Touching Tarmac” when we stop behind another vehicle, but you’d have to be 50 yards back to reduce the blinding glare of triple brake lights to an acceptable level.
  11. So, I phoned up the garage the day after (Wednesday) and tired to talk to the owner (he's a one man band sort of place), when he was doing the work he spoke to my wife who has zero technical knowledge and he in essence told her that the evergreen was the same as the cross climates. He shouted at me down the phone, said he'd done exactly what he was asked, accused my wife of lying and the hung up. Refused to answer anymore calls. I've since taken the car to am Halfords Autocentre (I know they have a reputation but) and got a new cross climate fitted and we've kept the evergreen. As I don't know how much he charged for the tyre, I'm not sure how much out of pocket I am. I've spoken to a local breakers yard who'll buy the tyre off me as it's virtually brand new (It's done about 2 miles) but I won't know how much for until I turn up with it. Moral of the story, even 2 recommendations from 2 good friends and lots of positive Google reviews can't make you immune from a dodgy garage run buy a dodgy bloke.

Typical. Take the Senna for a run and it starts raining. Still trying to get a pre order. 🙁
  13. I have forwarded your recommendation and eagerly await their response. I'm looking forward to December/January when many of the BMW dealers suddenly stick all their pre-reg cars up for sale at massive discounts. Although a half price C63 would be nice, even though I will still need a 50 year 0% finance offer like the one that Porsche will do me (I'm assuming it's a cert')

I've found a topic where Tomlin8 had the same problem. I'm missing the same extra shield that fits underneath the scuttle. I guess I've been missing this part since my windscreen was changed Does anyone know where I can get a new one? I'll start searching for it online... If the problem persists after fitting the new part I'll try changing the grommet, thanks, DeanVRS20VT!
  15. Great. Vacuous post then. So how many wheel rotations are required to trigger the system? Is it the same for on and off? Is it front wheels only being monitored? What angle does the inclinometer look for when descending and levelling? I run 16" M+S's all year round due to my location so I'll need to do some calculations before I start re-landscaping my stopping spot. Thanks, be great to know that.
  16. Doesn’t it say on the logbook, or the sticker in the boot? The sticker in my boot shows I have an Mk1 vRS ASZ engine rather than the BLT, which was put in them from a certain date. I reckon that if you post up the date of manufacture some knowledgeable folk on here will have a decent idea.
  17. Had many cars with heated windscreens and never had any problems driving or seeing in any light or darkness. I have owned 3 Ford Focus, a Kuga and my current Octavia. I also wear glasses so cant see that being the issue.
  18. My local VW have one. First one I've seen in the tin. I quite like 'em: Gaz
  19. @DeanVRS20VT I also have a library of mk1 files - mostly 1.8 T IIRC. I'm happy to hang onto them here but if you would like a copy for your library PM me an email address - I can send you a Google{tm} Drive{tm} link

mine was the £60 one and it was here either next day or the day after
  21. @BlackMesaUK I had a problem with the manifold that was throwing back a P2015 Signal Improbable error. I followed this thread, sourced the fix kit locally and fitted it without any major drama. It's been a year now and no problems, so worth trying for a small price. One thing I changed from watching the video was to ignore the way he refitted the spring (which is the only tricky part): I tried it his way and found it fiddly as feck. Then I tried refitting the lever first and just hooking on the spring last and that worked perfectly. I paid €15 because I wanted to pick it up locally in a hurry, but at the time (from memory) I could have bought it on eBay for less than a tenner. I think it was even available on Amazon, but I might be wrong about that. I do remember that you could pay a wide range of prices though. Maybe there's a quality difference, but something tells me they are all exactly the same and being made in exactly the same factory. Anyways, best of luck with it.

Get dedicated electrics. You will get the Yeti monitoring the bulb failure and switching the parking sensors and fog light. You also get Trailer stability system on the Yeti with dedicated electrics. I've got dedicated electrics on the Yeti but a bypass relay on our Octavia. The relay has failed twice on the Octavia and currently the indicators are not working on the trailer. Also most fitters use scotchlocks with bypass relays and they can damage your cars wiring.
  23. Erm, yes. But didn't we all know that already?
  24. @VWD There is very little Off Grid after the people with Camper Vans and Motorhomes headed for solitude of being Off Grid and became part of the hoards in further flung places.

  27. Thanks J.R. Thanks Llanigraham. I've been testing. I think I may have worked out what happens and how it's programmed to react! I've decided the hill descent switches off after the car has gone a certain distance on the flat. Likewise it switches on after it's gone a certain distance down a hill. The distance seems to be about a car's length or a little more but it's probably a fixed number revolutions of the wheels. And specifically the front wheels. So if you go forwards down a hill and onto the flat the front wheels will go at least the length of the car while the back wheels are still dropping down. If you go down in reverse it's the back wheels that'll run onto the flat while the front wheels will only reach the level area at the last moment - so not enough revolutions to trigger it to turn off. I hope I've explained that coherently! There's a sort of logic in that it waits until it has moved a fixed distance either down or along before it reacts. There's a bit of video on the BBC website at the moment of the effects of the melting of the permafrost in Siberia. If a Yeti drove across it (apt place for a Yeti after all) with the hill descent constantly turning on and off it'd be ridiculous. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/world-54195656
  28. Colin, at moment I'd hold off. it wasn't so long ago that the tourist traps were protesting about tourists bring infection to their area. They'd like the income, but fear over rides that. Come any hint of a second wave, tourists will be persona non grata. For Scotland, I'd forget the 500 and look at off the grid places on the west coast. Try west of Corran ferry- perhaps down to the light at Ardnamurchan and some of the coastal places around Strontium / Salem. But beware as these are not wide roads. You will not get views like this on the east coast- if you can understand what the natives of the East Coast are saying.
  29. It's been a talked about on here (a lot), but I've had 4 MK1 VRS's (two of which I've still got) and I've got a MK1 Octavia Estate L&K and none have had alarms. The most we got was an Immobiliser, and yes while there are Alarm settings within VCDS (Vag-Com) as you can change the country to set the volume of it, we never had it in the UK. I'll double check my paperwork and see if it was an optional extra, but I'm pretty sure we it wasn't. *2)The characteristics of the visual and audible signal may differ according to the country... The above is on the same page, it wasn't an option in the UK. However, you may find that the hazards flash which is due to the internal interior monitor. If you can call it an alarm, it's very basic. Some old posts: As for the door micro switch. This might be of some interest to you, it's a guide to replacing the door switch (which is built into the lock)
  30. I have very similar with a few less extras. I have never used a spare wheel in 25 years and approx 500,000 miles so decided not to bother this time. I have the leather, but it’s probably not worth It, I wish I hadn’t bothered. I don’t have the panoramic roof, had one in previous car, never even opened the blind, waster of time for me. I do have a DSG gearbox, it’s brilliant. I’ve always had manuals before, but after having this DSG I will never have a manual again. I would get a DSG over and above a lot of the add ons.
  31. Got a Series 2 Lambretta rusting away in the back garden, must sell that!
  32. Go with Bilstein or Sachs for reliable OEM quality, usually cheapest from Germany via ebay.
  33. Your garage sounds crap. They've pressure tested. They should do a sniff test to test for hydrocarbons (testing for head gasket failure) and they could put a dye in the coolant to help them find leaks. All the stuff I'd do at home and I'm not a mechanic! Probably your water pump is failing. Its reasonably common on the diesel aparently. Mine is due to be replaced with the timing belt next month as mine is also a 2015 and the timing belt is due after 5 years, so do the pump at the same time. Make sure you get the timing belt done if it hasn't been and if it has been, ask if the coolant pump was changed to rule that out.
  34. One is for 1010kg and below, the other is for above 1010kg so there isn't a 1kg difference Pretty sure the axle weights for your car will be on the ID plate. I think it might be around either the drivers or passenger side door openings?
  35. Yep mid 60's 250cc Maicoletta ( had a brace of them when fairly new ) Have you had a bike before ? my first one 125 Lambretta was in 1961 & commute was 20 miles each way into the middle of London. Get the best helmet you can afford, same goes for protective clothing & boots. Get some practice riding before committing to the commute Ride defensively, but NOT in the gutter - treat all other traffic as if they're out to get you! Whatever you do, enjoy it
  36. This is just the kind of ugly that i like.
  37. I wonder if Porsche would do me a free redundancy insurance on a 911? (and generous 0% finance on a 50 year HP loan)
  38. New 312mm brakes on, new calipers, refreshed some carriers and new discs Mintex pads and some stealth black hel braided brake lines. saved 3.5kg a side over the r32 setup 😮
  39. Exactly the same happened to mine, it does wear off despite the fact it doesn't feel like it should I used a small screwdriver to pry it off, just be careful not to mark the leather of the gearknob. I'd suggest you order a replacement first though to make sure they are the same, it certainly looks like the 5L0798117 part I mentioned above. You can see the clips here:
  40. 30eur, jeez... I could send you mine for free if you'd like to spray them in black metallic and give it a go, you'd need some 3M tape too though I believe. PS. Just noticed you're in Australia and for some reason it's not in the listed of selectable destinations even though I got New Zealand for example
  41. I suspect I might get worried at 140 degrees. And all my Yetis used the officially approved oil, so that was a pointless question. My first Yeti did over 110k miles, all lot of them working hard towing and off road, and it still didn't use any oil between services.
  42. Sorry, no. One person's "Must Have" is another person's "Junk". ps - primer grey is not a colour
  43. 4 pots and 345 mm disks officially installed. Shout out to Freakyparts. And now...
  44. Picked this up last week; 2017 TDI, meteor grey with black pack plus & pan roof. Fantastic car!
  45. Sad indeed..... the Fabia Estate is unique in its class, i too do not wish for an SUV style car, they are just big and bulky with no real benefit over an estate...... i do not go off road as 99% of owners !
  46. If it is a great car, people will admire its looks, I'm pretty sure. It might take a while, but even Peter Beardsley seemed to look better after a few years... Who am I kidding BMW sort out the exhaust pipes on the GTS!!
  47. Resurface the backplate, check the rotor clearances with feeler blades, while you have the sump off you would be crazy not to remove one big end cap at a time followed by the main bearing caps to inspect the bearings, just keep them clean and retorque them and they wont know that they have seen the light of day, they can be replaced in situ if required. Beyond that and what you have already done there is little that can affect the oil pressure with the noticable exception of the pressure release valve, check its operation, spring tension and the seating area.
  48. Debris from where? Do you have evidence for that? I mean an oil pan is not exactly a recycle bin if the car has been serviced well. The oil pressure builds using the teeth, not the sides of the gears. You can try resurfacing the cover of the pump using fine sandpaper fixed on a flat, hard surface (a sheet of glass will do too). Start with 120-grit then go up to 400-grit. The idea is to have a maximum axial play of 0.1 mm.
  49. My 272bhp has done about 35mpg over the time I’ve had it which is a mixture of 20 mile commutes and short journeys. On a run, it’ll do 38-40. However, I only do 11k miles per annum. With your projected mileage, I’d be tempted by the diesel. It’ll have plenty of mid-range urge and a remap should liberate a few more horses without ruining the economy. I don’t really understand the logic of buying a high power petrol model and then crawling round to get high mpg numbers. If you drive the 272 as it was designed, you won’t get much change out of 30mpg.
  50. We ran a 1.2TSi Yeti and 1.2TSi Octavia at the same time. The Octavia averaged 10mpg more than the Yeti over our ownership. We still have the 1.2TSi Octavia but now have a 2.0TDi Yeti.
