  1. So I've just done a job and my colleague had all this in his Yeti (chair and waste bin not included) Total weight is probably somewhere around 300kg+ I was impressed
  2. This MK2 Fabia vRS has just been saved from the scrappie... exhaust valve had 1/4 of it missing and customer didn’t wanna pay for the work to be done so sold it to the garage I work at for a very good price!
  3. My practice (especially on a hill). Keep foot on brake pedal, into position N , handbrake on, foot off brake pedal, the car will settle on the handbrake, then into position P. No strain on the gearbox at all.
  4. Afternoon. It's my 2 month anniversary of my 70 plate (August build) 1.5 DSG so I thought I would share my likes and dislikes. For context - my previous motor was an Audi A3 2.0d s-line and this is my first Skoda. On the whole, I am really pleased with the car - the space and the comfort. I love the higher seating position and the visibility is great. I was worried that moving from the Audi that pulled like a train to a 1.5 in a larger car it would 'underperform' however I have zero issues with the drive train. Its quiet and can shift when it needs to. Ok, I'm lucky to get 40mpg out of it at present, but I'm not really travelling any distance yet. Just pottering around town and the odd trip into the countryside. In the first 2 months, I've only added 800 miles or so and it only has a total mileage of around 900 miles so it is just getting going. Friends of the family have an Ateca and I have to say, I prefer the ride quality of the Karoq. Less harsh. I do have a few things that haven't gone as well - I don't think that they will come as a surprise to anyone... * The manual - soft, strong and very absorbent. * Infotainment - I have the Columbus unit without any device in the glovebox so the manual refers to use SD card and insert into unit - errr nope. Even the latest manual is the same. So how do I update the maps etc.? Using CarPlay. * Infotainment - missing features compared to the manual and incorrect instructions in the manual - DriveGreen page? doesn't exist. Auto dipping passenger mirror when reversing - instructions are wrong in the manual but I have managed to sort that out. * Sat Nav - Address translating to lat/long - nah. Using CarPlay. * Don't laugh, but the bonnet using a 'pole' support rather than gas struts winds me up! * I have condensation in the front lights - ever since I washed the car and being LED they aren't clearing. Manual says to be expected but they don't look good. * The chrome surrounds of the air vents that then reflect in the mirrors get me every time - I think that the mirrors have cracked until I look again and its just the chrome reflection. * Obviously its cost related, but I wish they had retained 4 hooks in the boot, along with the torch. The washer filler funnel I thought was really neat until I discovered Skoda replaced it with a cheap cap (Thanks to eBay I have rectified that) - Warning triangle, first aid kit and vest - standard in the 2013 Audi but not in a 2020 Skoda - it wouldn't cost them too much to include them but choose not to. It looks and sounds like a long whinge list but they are all minor annoyances rather than show stoppers. Honestly, I was worried about buying a Skoda but I can honestly say I don't regret it for one minute. Jon
  5. thanks guys you've all been really helpful really appreciate it

  7. I've also noticed a drop off in expected electric range recently. I was down to about 23 or so after a full charge. After a 290 mile journey yesterday I charged up when I got back and now gone up to 27 miles elec range so it seems to keep recalculating this figure based on recent driving style and journey type. When I got back I also filled up with petrol. Only had 5 miles range left and got 56.4 litres in (12.37 galls). Since last fill up I've done 734 miles but also recharged it with a total of 82kWh during this time. This has cost me about £11.56 at 14.1p/kWh. So a total of £62.30 for petrol plus the £11.56 for leccy = £73.86. When converted back to gallons at £1.10/litre works out at 14.75 gallons. So average fuel consumption has been 49.8 mpg. If you don't include the leccy cost it works out as 59mpg. Not bad considering the time of year and 2 of the journeys were long motorway drives. This is slightly better than my previous DSG 150 diesel Passat at this time of year Interesting that I managed to fit 56.4 litres into the 50 litre tank which wasn't quite empty!!

Good luck, it’s sounding like a trip to an Apple Store Genius Bar time 😒
  9. Yep, retired the Mk1 Superb Edition 100 from active service and collected the replacement MK2 Elegance estate this morning. 120 miles drive home and it’s a lovely drive. I’m still finding the toys. Really loving the panoramic glass roof, especially after the Ed-100 which has the tinted glass. It’s very light and airy in the new one. Just got to find a spare wheel to replace the repair kit thing. And clean up the old one ready for the bay of all blagging.
  10. Use Skoda Update Portal to check if maps are available for you. Everyone check your PMs for SW download links

Probably because they can't make their mind up what they're calling the coolant these days.
  12. I couldn't do it day after day for sure.
  13. Yeah, it's not easy. My back was killing me from leaning into the engine bay when I did mine. Haha. I'm sure it'll be worth it for you when it's all done

I have the Fabia 2015 model in the hand book index under luggage compartment, emergency unlocking (in my handbook its page 181) it tells you how to manually open the tailgate. Joe

The new VW genuine one doesn’t have g13 or g12 on it.
  16. Doesn't really matter if it's not being disturbed but suboptimal nonetheless.
  17. Should be fine. Have faith in the Simply Clever gods Yeah, that's what I did.
  18. Update on my discomfort issues with the Skoda Superb L&K seats. Continued playing with various foam pads and made some headway with that. Unfortunately I still found the drivers seat harsh and uncomfortable, certainly no good for a long journey. I visited my local Skoda dealership, where I bought the car, a couple of times over the past week to seek their advice and help with potential seat fix-it or swap-out options, a trade-in for another Skoda or even a car buy-back by them. Reaction from salesperson was fairly dismissive and following each visit I received none of the promised return phone calls with their updates and offers. I gave up chasing. When buying they are all over you, best friends and all that. Post sale if got a problem, I'm an unwanted irritant as they disappear in the mist. Final nail in the coffin for me and motivation to move on. Once the lockdown lifted I test drove a couple of Volvo S90s, BMW 520M, 640M & 730M. S90s not for me, BMWs much better. 5 Series BMW was the best model spec for me but not an M Sport. So today I paid a deposit to buy a BMW 530d SE and trade my Superb in as part of that deal. Took car for two 1 hour test drives to make sure I missed nothing this time. Drivers seat significantly more comfortable for me, has all the elec adjustments including lumbar and also adjustable headrest X & Y. I collect the car Thursday next week. Its a real shame as the Skoda Superb L&K is otherwise a great car. Thanks for all the feedback. Cheers, Roy
  19. Not worth doing anything about unless it gets worse, I'd say. If you really want to help the engine live a long time, the best investment is probably to check, and replace if necessary, the oil separator module on the back of the engine; and check that the oil pick-up gauze in the sump is free of stuck particles. Between those two you'd be reasonably sure of a good supply of clean oil that won't degrade too fast.
  20. Why oh why does everyone want their old car lit up like a darned Christmas tree, ruining other drivers night vision and looking like a plod magnet. Townies.
  21. SWMBO and I both have Bose QC headphones that we use when on flights to/from the US visiting family. The noise cancellation is good enough for SWMBO to even get to sleep on the return flight - something she has never done before having the Bose QCs.

Car is currently in undergoing major modifications. Here's a little teaser for now.
  23. No worries, I’m happy to host!
  24. The Bose QCs are incredibly comfortable, imho I'd say of the dozens of different headphones I've worn over the years, they are the most comfy. Their noise-cancelling tech is excellent, but the sound quality is only decent. I've got my new Senny 450s and after a tweak on my phones audio test and correction software (it's basically plays various frequencies and levels to your cans and determines the deficiencies of your ears/cans/or the combination of both) I'd say the massively cheaper Senny's sound slightly better overall, even though the noise-cancelling can't hold a candle to the Bose. One thing of note though, is the passive noise-cancelling afforded by the ear cups and their rather firm grip they have on your head, offer excellent noise rejection just by wearing them.
  25. I didn't say but the man has to be supervised
  26. Hehe yep just got all the water out the head bolt holes with a wooden skewer and pushing a thin rag down each one.. there all dry as a bone now.. oh well here goes
  27. Looks lovely, you can put it all back together now.
  28. Not a good sign if update is dealer only or subscription based online service. There are USB ports, you could just use a Usb stick/SD adaptor/appropriate cable. I'm more inclined just to use Android Auto/Apple Carplay with Google maps rather than keep spending more money.
  29. Easy , it was a man packing it

I think they have two problems - firstly much of the software isn't written by Skoda but their suppliers so they have to persuade the suppliers there is a problem and how to recreate it so they can fix it; and secondly most software is written by teams of engineers so it's very likely that the engineer who wrote it won't be the person asked to correct it and some software engineers seem to have an amazing ability to write unintelligible code!
  31. I thought the pump ran when the engine was cold as the main water pump is 'closed' and this pump circulates the water in the engine through the heater matrix? i may be wrong. Sorry i have no idea how much they are and don't know of any issues
  32. 1000 kms easy, even with four passengers in the 2.0 TSI 220ps, just have to visit Estonia read with Google Translate -> https://www.drive2.ru/l/566134415047000397/ in Germany can't get half of that, pleasure of drive is more important than economy :)

Of course you can use the tyres as long as you have a set of14" wheels to put them on.
  34. Yes, there are some VERY silly boys about, driving moderately quick cars extremely badly.
  35. Arse - Dual Mass Flywheels. If you are invested in the car, then you might want to google single flywheel conversion kits - and get the clutch replaced whilst you are there.
  36. @FrankNicklin we are getting ourselves cross wired. I was talking about the bad practice of not using the handbrake. Of course if you apply the handbrake before lifting the foot brake then all is fine. Carry on good sir.
  37. Has anyone else noticed the terrible echo in this site lately? I keep hearing the same things repeating over and over again. Unlike real echoes, they don't die away though, and just when you think they've finally stopped......they start all over again.....
  38. The job on the head is miles better than the one I got. Great stuff
  39. Kilen's online coil spring catalogue lists the Skoda Octavia MK2 RS hatchback as having rear spring OEM number 1K0511115BS and the estate as having rear spring OEM number 1K0511115BT Many aftermarket springs are sold to replace both these OEM numbers, so that you would end up having the same rear springs whether you had the hatchback or the estate version of the Octavia MK2 RS. If you have an Octavia MK2 RS hatchback, it might also be worth considering OEM number 1K0511115BQ for the rear springs, as according to the gknautomotive.com online catalogue the 1K0511115BQ version is 9mm shorter than the 1K0511115BS/1K0511115BT version, with everything else such as thickness and number of coil turns being the same. The estate is probably a little heavier at the back than the estate, so using estate rear springs on a hatchback would raise the ride height. You can access the Kilen online coil spring catalogue here: https://www.kilensprings.com/springs-catalouges/onlinecatalogue.asp If you are interested in OEM number 1K0511115BQ for the rear springs on your Octavia MK2 RS, avoid Bilstein, Kilen, Lesjofors, and KYB. These brands think that it's OK to sell the same aftermarket spring to replace both OEM number 1K0511115GC and 1K0511115BQ. These springs have a very different spring rate, with 1K0511115GC having a 11.25mm thickness and 1K0511115BQ having a 11.75mm thickness. Optimal and Sachs springs that are sold to replace OEM number 1K0511115BQ are listed as having 366mm length. This I suspect is incorrect, and should be 321mm in length. Fortunately, it's easy to measure a new coil spring with a tape measure to within a few millimetres. Before fitting a pair of new springs, always check length, thickness, diameter, weight, number of coil turns, and make sure they are a matched pair. They should weigh within a few grams of each other if they are a matched pair.

This is the bit I really dislike. Manufacturers see EV as an easy target to upsell people into less efficient crossovers or SUV's. I guess my point is, we, as consumers, shouldn't be focused on the mileage figure (like camera megapixels or computer CPU GHz). End of the day it's not as important as efficiency. Focusing on this single range figure pushes for undesirable design choices, the worst of which is like putting 90 kWh battery to achieve range less than 250 miles (Jag IPace), in comparison Model Y is said to achieve 230 miles with just 55 kWh battery. The number one focus should always be on efficiency, getting more range out of smaller battery. It's not just weight of the car. With the push for longer range EV, I fear we end up everyone driving with 150 kWh battery cars for 30 daily miles. Where production of the car batteries generate more greenhouse gases than if we had stuck with petrol-hybrid. Wanting more range is understandable, but it needs to come from efficiency gains, not from having ever bigger batteries. (unless the larger battery can be made with less material than early EV's) This is the other reason I really like idea of range-extended serial hybrid (i3 REx, Ampera). It allows people to be on electric vast majority of the time with just enough battery size, also doesn't drive well if fuelled purely from fossil fuel, and don't need to be at mercy of the infrastructure for longer trips.
  41. Good point. My tests were, first, where I specifically noticed that I just plain didn't like the way that descent mode worked, were with the default summer tires (not, in my case Pirellis; my car came with Goodyear "EfficientGrip Performance" tires, which actually are GREAT for summer on good pavement. Really quiet and smooth. But, perhaps, not at all good on more challenging surfaces. Although, one of the tests was on excellent (just, steep) concrete, so it shouldn't have given any tires any difficulty. The next test, where I still wasn't completely satisfied with the descent mode, was after I swapped these summer tires for Michelin CrossClimate+ M+S tires. I'll do more tests over time, and report back. thanks, all.
  42. I was going to add this too but thought there was enough in the thread. Witnessed it years ago when I saw someone get shunted in a right turn lane turning a 2 car bump into a 4 car smash. Was early in my driving "career" with my dad in the car. Had a good discussion about it after as a learning point.
  43. The little Toyota looks a lot of fun but £33,500 with the track pack is bonkers or is it that special. If I hadn’t gotten bored of Golf R’s I could buy a nicely loaded 2nd hand R and still have a few grand in my pocket. £33,500 spare what would you buy, excluding an R or the Civic?

Another pic from up in the hills. We had about 6 inches of snow over the w/end but it’s mostly now puddles with a little still piled up at the side of the road. Still some white stuff up in the Cairngorms though. Loving Petrol Blue in its Dark and Moody mode.
  45. Hmm, the link to photobucket images now has to be added differently. They all seem to be working now though 👍🏻
  46. Beryl is back on the road, MOT sorted at last, couple of minors to rectify, but only wear and tear things (front discs, bushes). Thanks to everyone for their advice xx
  47. Change the engine oil (and filter) too.
