  1. Hi everyone This is the first forum/owners club I’ve joined. I’ve just got myself a lovely 2002 Octavia 4x4 1.8t Estate, and I’m absolutely besotted with it - it’s got a sunroof!🤘 My first car was a 2.0 Mk1 fabia, written off and replaced twice with two 1.9pd Mk1 Fabias - half of those accidents being my fault 😬 I’ve been massively helped by the this forum and it’s users over the past few years of driving, it feels good to be apart of it now. I’m hoping I can give back as much as I take from this site. Cheers! Will
  2. Rather grey here too, although just a little colour in the sky when the sun set
  3. Definitely agree that the pre-facelift has more character ( I have 2 )

And the cost at a dealer is paying for 1.the mechanics, sorry, I mean "Technicians" because that's sounds more fancy to the uninformed, to have clean overalls everyday due to the health and safety police, safety boots and safety specs in case an employee takes legal action against them when they get an injury.. 2. A person on the service desk that does not know what a 13mm spanner actually looks like but can input a registration into a computer and refer to a list of money making items such as an "air con cleanse" @£60 which would be £8 from Halfords for a can of scent left blasting out for 10mins with the Aircon running😄
  5. Wino, VCDS was a brilliant suggestion. I had homed in on the stalk, but the BCM registered all the positions of the stalk in the VCDS measuring blocks. A relay / BCM is now ordered.
  6. Subject being brake servo vacuum hoses. Not sure quite how universal this failure is, but I've seen so many now on friends and neighbours' cars I always check them any time I remember to whilst under the bonnet of a Volkswagen Group car. The hard plastic sections split where they are stretched over the barbs of hose nipples on the terminations at e.g. the non-return valve. If the hose completely parts company with the bit it's attached to you will lose all servo assistance for the brakes. The brakes still work, but you have to press a hell of a lot harder on the pedal. If you don't know this, you will believe the brakes have failed completely. Before this catastrophic failure, if the splits develop to the point of leaking significant quantities of air, all sorts of weird fault codes can be thrown up, leading to replacement of non-faulty parts if diligent diagnostic techniques aren't used. Lambda sensors, throttle bodies, all sorts of things could get the blame due to 'false air' entering the intake manifold through these splits. The splits I've just found were not super-obvious. The first one on the underside, I felt with a fingertip before bringing a mirror out to inspect it. The second split, and worse one was on the front side, facing the engine, and couldn't be seen or felt easily until I pulled the whole assembly out a little to inspect more carefully. How old was this hose assembly on my car? 5 years only. The original was found in a similar or worse state about that long ago, this was a new genuine replacement then. Guess what improvements have been made in materials and design of these hoses since this car was made in 2003? None whatsoever that I can see. Please check your own car's equivalent. Go on, you have some time in the next few days, right? If you find crap like I just did, please photograph it and add to this thread.
  7. I but these my Fabia SWAG 4044688298393 And yes right side this small bushes ( front side) was totally rust inside and fail MOT test. So later on i bought this wishbone which include this small front bushes. But like other say it was litel pit tricky done it but i done it. i use this kind system to taking off old one..... And i made tool my self like this when i install new ones.... yes it take some time to do but its not that harder anyway...
  8. Off topic again, apologies for that, but for the sake of clarity and correctness. Staring at, or having bright lights shining at you does affect your night vision, thereby, if the bright lights from cars in front are shining at you then your vision will be affected for the time it takes for your eyes to acclimatise to normal lighting, which could be several minutes. Any bright light will do this, but red lights are not as bad as white light. Also, constantly looking at bright lights will in the fullness of time cause eye damage. Again, white light is worse than other colours.
  9. And of course the Yeti, in both its iterations, enjoys the company of the Morris Minor, the VW Beetle, the Robin Reliant, the classic Mini, the E-type Jaguar and a few others you can probably name (probably from some time back) where when you see one you don't think "Is that a Yeti or one of those that looks like it?". (I should also add the Ford Anglia as I grew up with a couple of these and the Ford Capri that, as a young Anglia owner I aspired to. No-one aspired to a Ford Cortina).

No, I just entered my VIN to the website and it told me I was Amundsen 2 so ran with it. Yup me too like the old cassette tapes when you put cellotape over the holes. Maybe I didn't push it in properly the first time, who knows!

I never locked the SD card after updating the maps on my MIB1 Amundsen, always worked in the car with the slider in the unlocked position?
  12. I manually apply the electronic parking brake using the button all of the time on my Kodiaq with a manual gearbox. I've always done things a little different so appreciate I'm very much in the minority, I always turn everything off before the engine i.e. the fan, infotainment system, lights, wipers etc. and like to see and hear that the parking brakes are properly applied before the engine is turned off. On my manual gearbox the EPB automatically applies when the engine is turned off or the drivers door is opened with the engine running. I also find the 'Auto Hold' feature very useful, a great idea. As for the brake light debate, it's been discussed many times on Briskoda over the years. It'll always divide opinion, in much the same way as other disadvantages associated with the advances in vehicular lighting brought about by the increasing use of LED technology. It seems the concensus is often to embrace it or try to avoid it.
  13. Interesting. Similar to mine, but in my case there was no need for additional fascias, apparently.
  14. The deal has been done. A price has been agreed to PX the Fabia for a Suzuki Swift Sport. Although 40bhp down on headline bhp figures, the reality is that the Swift is some 20 bhp per tonne better off. And it's a manual 🙂 I will be sad to see the Fabia go as I have had some really good times with it, but the time is right to move on to something more modern.
  15. I know you said - probably not under the car. Have you checked the rear coil springs? We had a coil broken. It was not really visible but the broken end does clonk around in the seat.

Hi New to the Forum recently purchased Superb estate lovely car and first automatic for me really pleased with It and the nice ambient lighting and finishing touches cheers Nige

Howdy and welcome to Briskoda. Smashing looking Superb, rather aggressive looking with the blacked out parts and the paintwork. Looks nice!
  18. I went to the panto. Oh yes I did!
  19. If you'll be keeping the car for a couple of years, the 'All In' warranty and service pack might be worth a look instead of the warranty only product.
  20. I can vouch for this. Checked a while ago on my car, boom huge crack in the hose. I had a vacuum leak for months and I didn't know why. Instead of buying a new one which is very expensive, what you can do is carefully and skillfully cut off the broken part, and use heat to mold it on the piece of plastic pipe where it should be connected. Works a treat
  21. Yes. Find a local place that does Hunter alignment. Google it. If you read through this forum, it seems that Hunter is the preferred way to do alignment on an Octavia. Place I used, had an inspection pit which makes it easier to do from underneath once they have the parameters.
  22. The dealer I bought my Karoq from told me about the 'K' prefix on the numberplate for VAG management vehicles. He also mentioned that they had obtained a large number of late registration cars used by a car rental company to boost the stock. They were registered G******. Appears a number of other dealers had done the same at the time so If anyone is looking at a used car with a 'G' prefix, check it out first. One careful former owner ABC Car Rental!
  23. £200 servicing in 10 years is ridiculous, only way to achieve it is if he's got a mate at garage that changes pollen filter and brake fluid for him for £40 every 2 years. Otherwise he's not keeping to Nissan's service schedule.
  24. I am collecting a Model 3 on Thursday. Always wanted one, and the resulting equity in my Superb has made it possible.
  25. Not long had my done on a Hunter rig, and adjustment was required. Cost me all in £109
  26. So after a lot of discussion and a littl refund, they finally made a custom cable for the usb that they are sending me to test. Seeing how it is built, it should work. I wil add some heatshrink at the base when i recieve it to secure the cables.
  27. I like my charge ports behind the badge on the nose of the car but then I am suppose to reverse in to the parking spaces at work so the parking checkers can see you have the legitimate parking permit to park at Heathrow as we sometimes get public or other LHR visitors/workers thinking they can park in our car park whilst nipping in to Terminal 4 or the Cargo centre. All well and good but then should I drag the cable all the way from the pavement round one side of the car to the front, would just about reach, to plug in on the nose parked arse in to the charger ! We need loop chargers in the ground preferable. No perfect solution only properly purpose built EV charging hub with good space and hatched areas maybe with channels that the cable sits in. How thick is a 350 kWh charge cable, must be pretty meaty to run over 400 Amperes !
  28. When the battery on our Fiat Multipla became sluggish I bought a Varta and it did us the 10 years until we sold the Multipla.
  29. From The Grauniad: "The Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme is an official grant that provides a 75% contribution – up to a maximum of £350 – towards the cost of a charging point and its installation. The main requirements are that the applicant owns, leases or has ordered a qualifying vehicle and has appropriate off-street parking. From April 2022, the scheme will no longer be open to homeowners living in “single-unit properties” – in other words, detached, semi-detached and terrace houses and bungalows, so the charging point will need to be installed by 31 March and probably booked by February. However, the scheme will remain open to homeowners who live in flats, and people in rented accommodation. The cost of installing a home charging point varies, depending on the type you go for, although quotes typically come in at between £500 and £1,000." https://www.theguardian.com/money/2021/dec/18/electric-cars-deadline-nears-to-claim-home-charging-grant

Indeed. This prompted me to measure the distance on a route I normally use 3 days a week which has been narrowed by 1 lane each way "to create a separated cycleway. Since March, I have seen less than 1 bicycle per trip using these 3 miles. I normally see at least one bus being forced to stop in a live running lane by said cycleway,

In my experience the two phrases "traffic planners" and "common sense" have no connection at all. In Trowbridge they are going to be closing one of the major entry roads for a week in January (and causing congestion for a further 9 weeks) to widen cycle lanes that I have never seen used by a single cycle - I gather this is to spend a grant given to them by the UK Government to "improve active travel".
  32. I know this is going off-topic again, and for that I sincerely apologise... but wow. I was going to ask if you suffer from OCD, but then I thought that it's not you... it's that the rest of us have become enormously lazy because we don't even bother thinking about any of that stuff. The car puts the handbrake on and turns everything off itself. Every time I get into the wife's Ka, I have to consciously think what that third pedal is for and how to use it... and that the car isn't moving because I haven't released the hand-brake. And it's only going to get worse - I read somewhere that most driving tests these days are done in automatics, and when you think about the advent of electric cars you realise why. Maybe one day there won't even be a driving test as self-driving cars will become a practical reality, but let's not pull at that particular thread these days. TL;DR - sorry for going off-topic again, but we're all lazy.

Me too how that would make it work / not work is strange

I thought the locked position was just to stop the card from being overwritten. I'm going to try mine in both positions.
  35. ive run the AT3 on my outback when i lived in australia so i know they are a good tire as i put mine through hell.... virtually no road noise and still great grip in all weathers and hard wearing ... i put 70k on my AT2 with a lot of off roading and when i replaced them there was still about 5mm left on them .. think if im going down this route of a lift then i will get new struts ,springs , top mounts ,poly bushed etc so its all done and dusted first time ...
  36. VW / Skoda have managed to have BEV's lumbered with Flat batteries. https://briskoda.net/forums/topic/499985-dead-12v-battery Vorsprung Durch Technik = Let the paying public do more R&D and be inconvenienced rather than sort things before launch.
  37. Hi All Been trawling the forum all morning. Is anyone running Amundsen MIB1 software code later than 0435 and if so which version is it (I think the latest is 0490 but am unsure of the improvement's \ fixes in it over 0435) ..?? I have the Nav unit 5E0035874A

No times on the signs mean it's a 24/7 bus lane. Cambridge has bus priority measures and these have been 'pushed' via such lanes. Personally, even though I've been involved in bus priority measures and scheme design I hate them and think many are ridiculous for the reasons mentioned. In Sheffield the local authority are pressing for 24/7 ones on two core routes into the city that have a poor frequency thinking it will increase reliability and patronage but it won't and will instead kill shops fronting the routes. They would be far better leaving the peak hour lanes as is but enforcing them... But they seem blind to this option and focussed on full time lanes

Just had notification yesterday that my hyper green vrs iv estate is in Germany awaiting shipping. Ordered 12th July with canton and winter pack, so things are definitely starting to move forward. Dan

Well it arrived this morning, and has had its first wash (dont judge, it was dirty 🤣 ). Some changes it seems. It now has virtual pedal, which is interesting when washing the lower rear bumper and the boot opens in your face. The remote child lock button is not there (not desperate). Annoyingly it didnt come with a Type 2, 3 pin charger, just the type 2 - type 2 cable. This is a pain in the arse, as my wall box isnt being installed until February. Will get some more pictures at some point.
  41. Can a battery really go flat in one day without warning? Our Golf Alltrack has the same system and over 6 years its batteries have gone low a couple of times - most recently only this week. The car displayed a warning that the battery was low. I replaced it with a new 2032 within a couple of days. I have never had a case where the key refused to work.
  42. think you can, in the picture above you can clearly see the top rubber seal is "proud" of the roof line, it should be sat "up / under" the roof edge, as on the back door. EDIT :- see the O/S is as it should be on both doors..
  43. That is not actually correct for a 12v system, for sure any water in an electronic module will stop it functioning and more often than not kill it either through reverse biasing a semi-conductor or corrosion, the water alone will not cause a short circuit blowing a fuse. The survival advice advice for anyone in a vehicle that has ended up in a canal lake etc and sunk is not so valid with modern electronics (explained later) but was to turn on the headlamps and interior lights so you can see and be seen, they will (back then) work normally and leave the ignition on, after letting the interior floor equalising the pressure open the door to exit, if it is obstructed (vehicle upside down etc) then open the window, electric windows will (back then) still function. Of course now with electronic door control modules, body control modules, lighting modules its unlikely that any of these things would respond to switch commands. When I have recommissioned vehicles after flooding it has been rare to encounter blown fuses from short circuits. Salt water is another story especially with battery operated torches etc, that creates instant electrolysis.
  44. I'm fairly sure that door has been replaced, making me think there's a replacement in there. Reasoning includes (from your photo) missing roof edge seal, different finish window frame, I think the window sill on that door looks slightly out of line... Try looking along the body from a fine angle for ANY repeat ANY signs of a panel misalignment (up/down or in or out at either end) and/or any difference at all in the alignment of the metallic particles in the paint. This is your job because you have physical access to your car,

I ordered back at the start of October with a provisional delivery date of March '22. Had an email from my dealership last week that delivery is now expected September '22 so 11 months from order to expected delivery. That's for a VRS IV with wireless charging, park assist and winter pack 2.
  46. I'm no expert when it comes to evaluating crash damaged cars but if I may suggest that it took a side-on shunt at some point, damaging the B-Pillar or similar. There's another thread opened recently discussing water leaks in the spare wheel well in the MkII section that may be of assistance to you. Hope this helps.
  47. might be time for new shocks n springs all round i reckon
  48. for assisted drive if you press the assisted drive button and it steers itself then you have it, if it doesn't then,,,,, as for heat pump I think there's different refrigerants apparently but not sureof the details
  49. So Been a LONG time since i've updated this, but I still have my Octy. It has, however, changed (quite a lot!) See below recent pic: If people are keen, I can do a write up in more detail of what i've been up to. Essentially, the car is now a lot more fast road focused and running circa 240bhp.
