  1. I got a genuine VW one through from Fixparts https://www.fixparts-online.co.uk It arrived today. So if anyone wants one here is the place to get one. I tried repairing the old one but its under a fair bit of load and the repair would be temporary at best.
  2. Potentially also an issue with 'false' medical claims associated with accidents and inflated hire car costs (compared to the rates we get through work)? I'm sure these medical stuff is checked but it was amazing how many times I was asked if I was sure no one was injured and I didn't have whiplash when I was rear-ended a couple of years back... I can imagine some people would respond 'yes I've got a slightly stiff neck' and off it spirals... Then again maybe I'm just very cynical...
  3. Hi All. It's been some time since I updated. The DSG has been flashed back to how it was before the 23AX update. Finally my car is un****ed. Fuel economy and DPF regen frequency appears to be back where it used to be - although I'm wary of drawing too many conclusions from limited data. Skoda have offered a £200 without prejudice voucher for servicing/parts/accessories, but offered no candid explanation or apology. Based on the wasted trips, time and angst this has caused and in the absence of a meaningful apology I feel that it's a bit of an insult really, but we have reached an impasse. Taking it any further would now require me to go to the motoring ombudsman - I have no idea if this will be worth the time and effort, or if I just move on.
  4. So in light of the increase - what do insurance companies do about keeping repair costs down, not using inflated parts and labour figures? Typical example from a while back - a small bump on a wing requiring a new wing and paint. Repair quotes to go through insurance varying from £800 to nearly £1,200; repair quote with no mention of potentially going through insurance £270. The former quotes included various 'items' that were not actually needed and vastly inflated parts and labour costs. This is not uncommon in my and other's experience. Now I'm not saying ChrisKnott do not try to keep costs down but, as an industry the general it seems it's not a priority, when it should be.
  5. The Euro label isn't for wet grip, it's for wet braking. In tyre reviews, they test both wet braking and wet handling...two different categories.
  6. Just fitted and it's perfect. One aspect of fitting new plastic parts in place of old that I appreciate is that they are a tight fit like new with no rattling. Even the top cover is now a much nicer fit with no buzzing noise as it used to vibrate. Sadly it's not possible to replace all plastic items in the engine bay but it's something to consider when you discover a plastic part with broken clips or slight damage - renewal is always best.
  7. My uncle's renewal with AA went from £472 to £771 despite no accidents or claims. I found him RAC at £583 then he suggested that as I visit him often we should add me as named driver and it dropped again to £493.
  8. I think that a lot of the problem can be summarised as:- 1. There are to many various companies involved in the claims / repair dep't, each and everyone is looking to make a handsome profit., there is the accident handling companies who handle the claims procedures and the issuing of hired replacement vehicles and the appointing of a firm of automobile assessors to assess the damage. 2. The appointed assessors do not now go and stand in front of the vehicle, instead they look at photos of the damage and the repairers quote and then use a computerised programme to estimate what parts are required at full cost regardless of the fact that the damaged part will more then likely have dents pulled/tapped out and then get a thin skim of filler, but will still allow for new panels, and painting, knowing full well they are seldom going to be ordered or fitted. Even the repairer will be looking to make a handsome profit, and some will even be looking to fit second-hand parts whenever possible. I don't think this whole business model is morally corrupt and yet, I was told by the the third parties insurance when their driver wrote my car off, that I, the innocent party had a legal and moral duty to assist in keeping the overall costs as low as possible. They offered my a final settlement figure of £8,200 for my car and thought that I could find a another car of the same type and condition that mine was for that value, WTF, they were being listed for around the £11,000 mark.

Taxation by weight & Congestion Charges by weight will have to be introduced in the UK for EV's. Charge for use in Towns / Cities and even passing into village speed limit signs extra for every empty available seat. Time that the Manufacturers are encouraged by governments to build and sell small ones. Like the Average Fleet C02 figures have them required to meet Average Kerb Weight & dimension figures.

    Another big-ass car.......
  11. Its a pendulum that swings. Cars from my youth, those built in the 60's and 70's would rarely reach over 80k miles, the engines would need decoking from about 25K and either need a full rebuild or be rattling like a pig at 60K. They would usually fail the first MOT on rust and need more welding every year, I put myself through college and got on the property ladder by investing in a trolley jack and BOc portapak when I was 17. The lacquer on metallic finishes would often peel off completely within a few years, particular the Fords with Silver Fox and Saluki Bronze metallics. Compared to then most cars of the 90's were a million times better despite never being garaged, the above rusting etc happened when most cars were garaged but would still not see their 10th anniversary. I reckon for VAG the pinnacle was about 2000/2002 around the time of the MK1 Octavia, the MK2 may have had more toys & features to sell it but the underbody protection and especially the protective finishes on suspension & brake components, cross members, suspension arms etc was seriously lacking and the later models just got worse, the toys & features were also an Achilles heel. I will never buy a newer vehicle than the one I have, if it gets scrapped or written off I will search long and hard to find an older model in good condition. In 10 or more years time from now there will still be very good condition vehicles around from the late 90's to early 2000's but very few of vehicles later than that. I can only hope that the pendulum will swing back at some time in the future on EV's but from what I have seen the underbody protection is very poor at present, probably no worse than an IC engined vehicle but still very poor.
  12. Morning all, just had my renewal through from Direct Line. Last year I paid £324, my premium quotes for renewal is £472. That’s quite a hike even with the rise in inflation. Are insurance companies taking the proverbial with their renewals in the hope people will just accept thinking that “it’s just another bill going up” or are they seriously being affected by the current state of affairs (i.e. repair materials and labour cost rise etc)?
  13. i have sold my karoq. thank you every one for your support in the forum. i wish you all the very best!

Wasn’t exactly a eco run this one but I recon there’s definitely room for improvement if I hadn’t gone into Cardiff.
  15. After a long battle with the other parties insurance company, it was passed back to my insurance company, who took up the claim on my behalf. The other company only valued my low mileage car which was meticulously maintained with everything by the book and in good condition, at £8,200 after my excess was taken into account. It was impossible to get another L&K with similar miles and condition, same age was coming in at £11.000. My own insurance provider had my car recovered from the body shop and delivered back to me, and they appointed another assessor, who came back with a similar amount. I was however able to talk with the assessor and I had to explain to him the significance of what the L&K meant to the value of the Superb, almost doubling the entry price point to the Superb range. He went away and looked at what comparable cars from dealers were costing, and I also supplied him with 3 Autotrader listings for similar cars with considerable higher mileages. To his credit he came back with a value of £9,700 which I accepted as I had located a MK3 L&K, in the same colour as my old one and very good condition but almost double the miles, but the price reflected the miles at £10,500 and had an FSH and with no problems on MOT histories other than tyres and brake pads nearing their limits. These have all been addressed with 4 top-notch high performance tyres and new pads and discs all round, cam belt and water has just been replaced. The dealer has ordered and replaced N/S rear light (cracked lense) and a N/S headlight had only half the LED DRL working, these took a time to arrive from the factory. The insurance policy still had 3 months to run and to be honest, the premium has increased, but only marginally for the remaining 3 months, despite the car being 3 years newer but less powerful engine (150 HP as opposed to 170), so I'm pretty happy at this stage which I'm told is because insurance has generally gone up anyway. Have to see what the renewal quote for next year is going to be. During the entire process I have covered almost 2,000 miles looking at other Superbs trying to find one that ticked all the boxes and I have come across some real dogs and also a dealer from hell, but that's another tale.
  16. Have a look elsewhere on the forum, I don't have Adblue so dont pay much attention but your words " topped up to over flowing" rang a bell. I'm fairly sure that I read if the tank is overfilled it will damage the sensor or something causing the problem that you have. Maybe someone else will recall or have the details. I replied to your PM regarding my VCDS.
  17. I had one which for may years tyre fitters could not find the leak in the water trough, they kept removing the tyre, rotary brushing the bead contact area and refitting the tyre with loads of schmoo and it would still go down. I was at the point of having the alloy wheel refurbished when a knowledgable guy did the same water bath test but tweaked the valve from side to side, the brass core was no longer bonded into the rubber outer but it would only leak when twisted, the centrifugal force from high speed running was pushing the valve stem outwards. I had a similar thing on my removal trailer, it had very old inner tubes under not so oldish tyres, when it was parked up fully (over)loaded for the journey next day I heard a pop and a whoosh of air, the brass core had shot out and lande some 50m away, had it not happened then I would have been on the M23 and at cruising speed within 2 miles of my home for it to have caused a major accident.
  18. Can't help you regarding the MK3 but I'm glad to read that you have found a suitable replacement for your old L&K. Did the insurers eventually pay you the correct amount to buy a similar age & condition vehicle? I realise you may have chosen to buy a newer one which cost more but did they leave you out of pocket? I assume you will also have lost the remainder of your insurance year with the total loss and will have to reinsure, did they up the premium?

Before you get too excited double check using a brim to brim calculation, I hope you also have one from before the remap. The tuners rather than tell you that the cars fuel consumption figures will be optimistic because their map puts more fuel into the engine than the ECU thinks has been delivered they spin it as more power plus greater economy which aside from the flattering untruths shown on the dash display is not likely to be the case? 68 or 74mpg is superb economy from a petrol engine though!
  20. Like others here, I also emailed the weconnect-support @ voltswagen . de (minus the spaces) and had this most informative (NOT!) response: Thank you for contacting Volkswagen Digital Services. Please be informed that the Digital Services department only provides technical assistance and support for the use of the digital services within the Volkswagen vehicle and related apps – “We Connect”, “We Connect Go”, “We Connect ID”. We kindly invite you to contact Skoda Digital services who will be able to assist you with your enquiry: *****@*****.tld Thank you for your understanding. Warm regards, Your Volkswagen team I have further emailed them such that if they are not responsible - after pointing out again (in both bold and red) that this affect VW vehicles as well as Skoda - then perhaps they could point me in the direction of someone who could assist as this is a VAG-wide problem. I expect they had all gone home by the time this was sent. I await they're fresh response - but I'll not be holding my breath I'll get anywhere. Incidentally, I've been in touch the other day with their advised email address @skoda and they advised they would pass it on to their "information department". Again, I am awaiting a reply from there. The phrase which includes "head" and "brick wall" comes to mind!
  21. If it's the Primacy 4 (S1) version, you might be better off going for the standard Primacy 4+ C A version. The reason being, that the (S1) version is manufacturer specific (S1=Peugeot), and with tyres you don't get a free lunch. Hence compromises will have been made to the tyre such as much reduced tread life and/or other characteristics adversely affected. Bear in mind that the Primacy 4+ model is newer than the Primacy 4. S1 This code stands for the original equipment on Peugeot models. These kind of tyres have been developed and manufactured according to certain specifications and requirements of the car manufacturer. We recommend fitting four of the same tyres, so that the tyres can deliver optimal performance. Please note: The tyres can also be used on other vehicles. 22. I had a 1986 Micra as my first car which had a pin hole in the sump which use to leak oil. Every 3 months I'd park it on a bank with the front end higher to stop it leaking and get to work with some degreaser and chemical metal. I never changed the sump in the 2 years I owned the car 👍
  23. Looking at the wiring diagrams, there's no switched live available at the stereo, only permanent .
  24. Not quite.... They replied remarkably promptly: "Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. We apologize for the inconvenience caused. We understand that the Traffic Message Channel (TMC) on your vehicles sat nav/media system has not been displaying any traffic information. To be able to further investigate the issue, please provide us with additional information as a reply to this email: - VIN number of your vehicle. - A photo with the TMC from your infotainment system. If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you for your patience and understanding. 25. Just getting around to replying to this now, it turned out to be a faulty camshaft sensor, since ive had it replaced I have driven around 800 miles now without issue.
  26. If I'm not mistaken, the stock radio on these gets ignition status via CANBUS rather than a switched live input on the wiring harness, so there may not be a switched live at the connector at all. A good way to check is probe the different pins for voltage with ignition on and off and see if any of them switch on with the ignition.
  27. That was my main reason for changing...bloody mum pointed out the wheels looked like flower petals the first time she saw the car and I couldn't stop seeing it after that. There was some minor scraping damage that would have been fixed pretty easily. Cleaned the car Sunday evening so better pic (I'm not good at taking photographs).
  28. Thanks gents, I think that's the decision made 😂 and leaning towards Satin finish
  29. XL Tyres were fitted to Mk2 Fabia vRS or Monte Carlo including TSI's as standard. All of 105 ps. 205/40 R 17's/ Mk3 came in 15",16", 17" and even the option from the factory of 18". 215's on 16 & 17" ones.
  30. Hi, Unfortunately insurance premiums have increased massively over the last 12months, this is a cross all lines of business (Motor, Household etc). It is mainly as a result of repair costs, materials and labour costs. As always, we would love the opportunity to provide you with a quote, we can try to match or beat your online quotes OR discount your renewal. Feel free to give the team a call: tel:08009172274 or visit our website: Briskoda Owners Club : Chris Knott Insurance Many thanks.
  31. Really worth while keeping an eye on those auto-renewals - SWMBOs Fabia renewal due in June, renewed last year with existing provider at a small increase over the year before - this year they quoted a massive, almost 100% increase! Got (and accepted) a comparison quote that is actually lower than last years, with exactly the same cover. Interesting to see vehicles estimated value is higher than we paid for it.
  32. As we know some owners prefer to swap from the fashion of oversized wheels and tyres, from the factory or option when new or previous owners changes, to smaller sizes to be more functional on real world roads and often give better comfort. Not everyone realises that the larger wheel and tyre size is often just fashion and that there are alternatives if they want them. Those that want the fashion sizes will stick with them and ignore any information that they can do otherwise. The other week I saw a male Estate Agent wearing some shoes with really long pointed toe (cap) and thought it must be some extreme style but a couple of days later I noticed a bloke on telly reading the news had some and the bloke doing the weather so it must be the latest fashion for shoes I expect which is fine but these shoes wouldn't be very functional in other professions. I can remember wearing stupidly wide shoes when I was young (though the fashion suited me as I have wide feet anyway). 😄
  33. Mine went down almost 30% at the start of this year, mystifyingly. It was on an auto-renew, so I let that happen! Lloyds bank car insurance I think.
  34. There are hundreds of Yeti's being broken - just buy the parts you need from a car with a black interior. Painting beige to black will never last. Been there, done that.
  35. I'm not suggesting that the OP purchase four new tyres and rims. I have simply pointed out that due to having an expensive wheel size, ie. 215/45R16, fixing the problem won't be as cheap as it might otherwise have been if a less expensive wheel size had been used.
  36. Myself plus the usual co-pilot, and a few mates not on this site are attending in our Mk1s, and I know @lewiswal47 is coming with us in his Mk3 Monte too.
  37. Fuel consumption can improve with more bhp / torque if you drive at the same speed as the engine had standard and you just get up to speed quicker and lift off. Otherwise it really is not remapping for economy and more spirited driving. @Ste jIs the map with that increase in power for running on 97/99 Super Unleaded E5. http://projectremaps.co.uk/remapping
  38. @Carlston Not everyone with an issue with tyres / punctures need or want smaller wheels or narrower tyres than their vehicle has.
  39. Do it! I think that is a lovely colour personally and would certainly be different. On the example you’ve given the spokes are relatively thin so you should get a similar affect on the Xtremes albeit with the different spoke pattern. I think if the spokes were much wider, as per the Mk IV vRS wheels, it’d be too much.
  40. Shame. Market forces may force them to reconsider early. TESLA is likely to make more money from electricity selling and reselling, what it buys and sells from its megapacks linked to charging stations that will under cut all, than TESLA will make from cars which may become a loss leader product, like ink jet printers and ink cartridges.
  41. The engine manufacturer of the CHYA & B engines, VW, recommend inspecting the cambelt at 240k km (160k mile) intervals, and to replace if necessary. There is no time limit. All covered in the service manual (below). My 2016 cambelt is on 95k miles and running as smooth as silk.
  42. Got bored so thought I’d see how the dv looks and sounds. There’s a clip on my Instagram @citigovrs for sound as it’s abit of a big file to fit on here

Personally, I replaced all four of the OEM Monroe units with bilstein B6 damptronics as IMO the Monroe units offer a horrifically poor ride quality and constantly fail and leak. if you were happy enough with them in the first place, then just pick anything as it couldn’t possibly be any worse. when doing mine, I replaced the top mounts with bilstein mounts and fitted a new OEM bearing, and used the original springs as they were like new. Completely transformed the ride and drive of the car to what it genuinely should have been like from factory.
  44. Some strategic drilling and tyraps?
  45. Duff info, sorry, looks like it mounts like this (bearing in mind this is a Left Hand Drive depiction, so mirror everything). You can probably refit it without unplugging any connectors, so ignore stuff about that.
  46. New owner, bought this last week from Hull Skoda Great spec
  47. First time Skoda Owner. 2016 VRS 4X4 DSG. Black edition I think - everything is black inside and out. Moved across from a 2017 Tuscon as it drove like a boat and hopefully I can get my partner to drive this as it's auto and she had no intention of driving a manual. So far so good, as I only have it 2 weeks but am already looking at a remap as I hear this engine and gearbox are pretty solid overall.
  48. You can ask the dealer if they know how to reset the infotainment system. Just remember for the next time. First check and ask on this forum, then call the dealer.
